CANDID DELUXE is the category that would be used for People Photos (Weddings, Portraits, etc) or general shots, where no color matching or special instructions finishing services are necessary. QUANTITY PRINTS are used when a large quantity of prints is being ordered from the same image. CUSTOM is used when there are special requirements such as Custom sizing, Color matching, Special Cropping, Burning, Dodging, Retouching, Manipulation, Special Borders or other Instructions terms and conditions (the small print) ALL PRICES ARE NET. Photofinishing Orders may be prepaid or C.O.D. (Visa, MasterCard, Cash or Certified Cheque). On approved open accounts, terms are - 2% 10th month following or net 30. Accounts not paid according to terms are charged 2% interest (12% per annum), accounts are subject to suspension, and further shipments are returned C.O.D. Inquiries for any adjustments or discrepancies to be made within 30 days of invoice date, or invoice will be considered correct as is. ORDER SUPPLIES: Personalised Order Supplies, such as Order Envelopes and mailers are available to our Customers. LIMIT OF LIABILITY: We take great care to ensure the safety of your film, file or media, but even with the best operators and equipment, the possibility of error exists. Submitting any film, slide, negative, prints, artwork or digital media to this Lab for processing, printing or other handling constitutes an AGREEMENT by you that any damage or loss by this Lab, even though due to the negligence or other fault of this Lab will only entitle you to replacement with a like amount of raw material or unexposed film. Except for such replacement, the acceptance by this Lab of the film, slide, negative, prints, artwork or digital media is without any other warranty or liability, and recovery of any incidental or consequential damages is excluded. Since color dyes may, in time change, we cannot offer any warranty against any change in color. We cannot accept responsibility for Orders left more than 30 days at this Lab. COPYRIGHT: SILVANO COLOR LABS will not accept Copy Orders from Artwork or Photographs that may be covered by Copyright. We reserve the right to refuse Orders that are beyond the scope of this Lab or that may not result in the high level of quality expected by the Customer. TAXES: G.S.T./H.S.T. is extra, where applicable. Provincial Sales Tax is extra, where applicable. 3 s.o.s. on-line ordering system We work with your jpegs and RGB Tiff files to produce the best quality photographic prints (up to 50 wide) and wide format inkjet enlargements (up to 42 wide). You can send us your media (Camera Cards,CD/DVD), but a better solution is using our SYLTREX ORDER SYSTEM (S.O.S., a free download from our web site). This java-based system offers an easy-to-use interface that lets you work quickly and efficiently using a PC or a Mac. With the S.O.S., no file preparation or re-sizing is needed. S.O.S. displays a warning if your images are smaller than suggested size. The first time you launch S.O.S., you ll be prompted for your address and customer number. Your is used to send you a confirmation when we receive your order. Choose a Folder where you have your images. Thumbnails of the images populate the right side of the main screen. Use the Sizes Button to Choose a Product Catalog and show the Sizes Palette to the Left side of your screen. Drag Images (from Sizes on the right side of the interface) to Products (on left side of the interface). You can Rotate and Crop images as well as turn Color images to B&W or Sepia. We have thousands of Photo Products available. You can send orders to us with a click if you have high speed internet, or you can send orders in by CD/DVD. Each time you launch S.O.S., it checks for updates (we add new products regularly). Please see our web site for more information and Video Tutorials. With S.O.S., there is no FTP client set-up. 4 ftp on-line ordering We also offer an FTP Server (ftp:// ) for file transfer. You can connect using an FTP Client program. Please see our web site for instructions. Contact us if you d like your own FTP mailbox. FTP orders require resizing your images to the desired print size. For Prints up to 12x18 best resolution is 300 to 400 ppi; for Larger prints (Lambda prints) or 400 ppi; for Wide Format Inkjet Prints, to 360 ppi. We support jpegs and RGB Tiffs. Please remove any extra layers or channels. Don t use LZW compression with Tiff files. After you FTP your order to us, please send us a follow up , telling us what you are ordering, preferred shipping method and which folder to check for your work. color management Our Goal is to give consistent and predictable Color throughout your workflow, from Capture to Output. CAPTURE If your Camera gives the option to choose between different Color Spaces (or Profiles), we suggest using AdobeRGB (wider Color Gamut, better yellows and skintones) over srgb. If you don t havedifferent Color Space options, you are probably working in srgb. Whichever Color Space you use, maintain it throughout your workflow or you ll damage your Image integrity. Avoid using NikonsRGB. CAPTURE MONITOR EDIT IMAGES OUTPUT MONITOR/SYSTEM To keep consistent Color on your Monitor keep your work area in subdued lighting and away from direct sunlight and windows. Adjust your Monitor Settings to a Temperature to 6500º K and a Gamma (Contrast Range) of 2.2 (good for both AdobeRGB and srgb). LCD Monitors and Laptops tend to display a bluish cast. CRT Monitor Colors drift with time. So, we strongly recommend using a Monitor Calibrator (e.g. X-Rite Eye-One), which gets attached to your Monitor. The software displays a series a Color Targets that are read by the Calibrator and compared to the Ideal Colors. The software adjusts the Monitor Color as close as possible to the Ideal. Re-calibrate on a regular basis. IMAGE EDITING Many Photographers use it, so we ll set up PhotoShop for Color (the same principles apply to Elements, Lightroom, etc.). Go to Edit > Color Settings. When the Color Settings Window comes up, click on More Options. For Photographic Output we are only concerned with the RGB values. In the Working Spaces section, set RGB Working Space to the same space you use in your Camera. In Color Management Policies, set RGB to Preserve Embedded Profiles (so PhotoShop won t try to change or dump the Color Profile). Please Click on all the checkmarks in this section. For Conversion Options, we prefer the Adobe (ACE) Engine, but use what you like. For Intent, your best choices are Perceptual or Relative Colorimetric. We suggest Perceptual as it tends to result in better skintones, but this is a matter of personal preference. Don t Click on any of the other checkboxes in the Window. Save your Settings (we like the name Silvano1, but that s just us). Close the Color Settings Window. If you have other applications in the Adobe Creative Suite, open Bridge and go to Edit > Creative Suite Color Settings. When the Window opens, choose the Silvano1 Space and click Apply to Synchronize the Color between your Creative Suite Applications. Go through similar exercises with any other Applications you use. Although you ve set up everything in the preceding sections, your file will still look different when printed, because Photographic Paper can t display the same Gamut of Colors as your Monitor. Download our Test File (right-click or control-click and save linked file) and open it in PhotoShop. Contact us for an Output print of the Test File. Download (right-click or control-click and save linked file) our Output Profile (SilvanoMaster2008.icm). If, after you've downloaded it, the file has.html at the end of the file name, rename the file, getting rid of the.html. Put this file where you keep ICC Profiles in your system (PC: My Computer > C > WINNT > system32 > spool > drivers > color. Mac: HD > Library > ColorSync > Profiles). In PhotoShop (CS2 or later), View > Proof Setup > Custom. For the Device to Simulate, choose RP30_Ultra_v7. Rendering Intent is Perceptual. Click the Preview On and Off. You should see the color bars at the left of the Sample file change color. This approximates the Gamut of Photographic paper. Click OK to save your settings. If our Sample File looks close to our Sample Print you should be good to go. Please be sure to Embed the Color Profile when you save your file. Otherwise, you ll lose all the information that helps give you predictable Color when printing. We offer a service to Professional Photographers (by appointment only) for them to bring in their system and we will calibrate their Monitor to our Lab standard and set up their Color Settings and Output Profile in PhotoShop. 5 color and b&w film processing C-41 (color negative) and B&W negative films are processed according to manufacturer specifications. Time, temperature and replenishment are electronically controlled. Film processors are constantly monitored and have back-up generators. Push processing involves giving film longer time in the developer (to compensate for under-exposure). We can push-process films (up to 2 stops) for an additional fee of 8.99 per batch. Pull processing involves giving the film shorter time in the developer (to compensate for over-exposure). We can Pull process up to 1 stop at an additional fee of $8.99 per batch. We don t offer Pull processing for C-41 films. Cross-processing of E-6 (slide) films in C-41 chemistry carries a $7.99 per batch surcharge and may give unpredictable results. Contact Sheets are available from cross-processed negs. Infrared B&W film processing carries a $8.99 per batch surcharge. Please clearly mark Infrared films, so they won t inadvertently be exposed to safelights. For Scans at time of Processing, see below. Minimum charge for Sheet Film Processing is $9.99 per order. Minimum charge for C-41 Long Roll Film Processing is $7.99, based on $.59 per foot /24 35/36 C-41 & B&W ROLL FILM PROCESSING DEVELOPING (AT TIME OF PROOFING) DEV. We ll print any number of prints per neg (same quantities for entire film). Additional Sets of Proofs are 25% off regular proof pricing. COLOR PROOFS are printed on N (Semi-matte) paper, but upon request, can be printed on F (glossy) or Y (textured) paper (making scans more difficult). Please indicate choice when ordering. B&W PROOFS from B&W negs are printed on Ilford Pearl RC paper. PROOFS from Ilford XP-2 & Kodak BW400CN films are usually printed Sepia (see pg. 5 for choices) on color paper and charged at the color rate. Upon request, we can print these films to B&W on Pearl RC paper at the B&W rate. Please indicate when ordering. E-6 PROOFS from 35mm slide films are scanned and printed digitally on N paper. We offer 2 sizes x 11 for 4-Up and 6-Up per page and 6.5 x 12 for 2-Up and 3-Up per page. File Names are at the bottom of each image. Copyright indicia is at the bottom of each page. Prices don't include film scanning (when required, RES 2 scans will do). Available on-line through our S.O.S. system. We can write your corrected files to CD for an additional $5.00 per CD. 8.5x11 Pages: 6-Up images fit within a 3x3 space. 4-Up images fit within a 3.25 x 3.25 space. Images can be rotated. We work with 4:5 (Portrait & Landscape), 2:3 (Portrait & Landscape) and square camera aspect ratios. 6.5x12 Pages: For 2-Up image size is 5x5 square. For 3-Up image size is 5x3.5 Horizontal (Vertical not available). Laminated Cover Pages can be added with an image of the Wedding Couple and the Marriage Date. CONTACTS are printed with average color balance and density for the entire film. Color and density will vary due to individual neg lighting conditions. COLOR CONTACTS are printed on N paper. B&W CONTACTS are printed on Ilford Pearl RC paper. COLOR LONG ROLL CONTACTS (min. 10 ft.) are $1.29 per linear foot. PicsXpress lets you post Events (such as Weddings, Sports Tournaments, Schools, Portrait Sittings, Galleries) so Customers can conveniently and easily order Enlargements and Photo Products on-line, from either your own site or picsxpress.com. Events can be posted for 6 months (and extended in 6 month increments). Pricing per Event depends on the number of images posted. For pricing and more information about this on-line proofing system, please see our web site or see the demo at how does it work? Let s take a Wedding as an example. At the Event, you can distribute cards (using templates in PicsXpress), letting the attendees know where they can see the images online (and for how long). In this case, they might look on your site, clicking on a link called John and Martha Eaglesmith - September 4th, This would then bring them to a page displaying the images, avaialable products and pricing. You can separate the images into categories of the day (e.g. Parents Home, Ceremony, Group Photos/Park, Reception, etc.). Use the tools in picsxpress to upload low-res versions of your images. PicsXpress also resizes the images. Images can be viewed at different sizes but cannot be copied with a right-click. You decide which Products are being offered for sale (e.g. Enlargements, Canvas Wraps, Mugs, Puzzles, etc.), the style of the Pages, the Banner Titles and Styles, Sizes, Available Cropping and Pricing. You can decide if an Event s images should be password protected. You can also embed a Copyright Message into Images. Also, you determine what payment methods are accepted, based on what your site accepts Cheques/Paypal/Visa/ MasterCard/Amex). For example, if you intend to accept PayPal, you would need to contact and set up payment through PayPal. If you wanted to accept Credit Card payment, you d need to contact your Financial Institution to set up an Internet Merchant Account. Because you take care of whichever method(s) of payment you accept, there are no additional transaction fees. Your Customers can open the Event Window (as at right from the Demo Event). Click on an thumbnail and an enlarged image opens in a second window (which can be further zoomed, but won't allow copying through right-clicking). Under the image there is pull-down menu with the available Products and Pricing and a choice between Color, B&W and Sepia. After Sizes are chosen, Clients can review their orders. Then they are guided through payment windows and are prompted to print out an Order Record. When a Customer places an Order, picsxpress will notify you by that there is an Order waiting to be fulfilled. After payment has been arranged/received launch S.O.S., click on the picsxpress.com button on the lower right of the main window. The Order comes up. S.O.S. will then ask you for the High-Res images. Point to the images on your Hard Drive or load the CD/DVD with the images. S.O.S. places the High-Res images in the Products. You can then inspect or adjust your Customers cropping and place the Order for printing. For an additional $1.99 per order (plus shipping charges) we can Ship Orders directly to your Customers. Call our office at and we'll set you up with an account, User Name and Password.
