4 Introduction From humble beginnings, HC Pro (formally Horsham Colour) has grown out of a local wedding & portrait studio driven with a passion for photography to become one of the biggest labs in Australia and the only independent regional lab in Australia. HC Pro is a professional photo processing and printing laboratory, specialising in Wedding & Portrait, School, Sports and Event Photography. Servicing professional photographers and photographic companies Australia wide, we go out of our way to make working with us easy. At HC Pro we provide everything from process-and-print proofing from negatives or digital files to large volume, fast turn-around Schools, Sports and Event photo printing. Employing an integrated film and digital production work flow, you can take advantage of a full spectrum of digital products and services, even if you use film. 5 Prints from Digital Files These prints are made straight from your files with no corrections. You are responsible for images not sized correctly, and for colour, density, cropping and spotting of the files you send to us. For maximum benefit from this service, it is important that your monitor is matched to our output. We will provide all the help needed to achieve this for $60 (including calibration CD). Files must be supplied as Tiff or JPEG format (flattened), RGB 254 dpi, the exact size of the print required with the profile embedded if possible. Please refer to Technical Specifications. Prints on Metallic Paper add an additional 50% to listed price. Service time may vary with Metallic Paper. It is often used for larger sized prints where matting and gloss are not to be included in the final presentation. The gatorboard remains very flat if left unframed. Foam Core The most popular mount available is 5mm mounting materials with a rigid foam centre. This is a very lightweight material. Foamcore may bend slightly if not framed & is easily damaged. Frame size will be larger on prints with matte. Premium Photo Frames Clear perspex is used instead of glass. This has excellent UV blocking properties, is optically clearer than glass and will not shatter during shipping as glass can. The print is mounted on self adhesive foamboard. The foamboard we use is clay formed which resists warping and keeps the print beautifully flat inside the frame. Plastic coated stainless steel softstrand wire is anchored on either side of the rear of the frame with D-rings. Max capacity of 9kg. The frame is sealed with framers tape which helps prevent moisture and insect damage over time. Felt bumpers are applied to the bottom corners on the rear of the frame to prevent marking walls when hung. Stretched Canvas The acid free canvas base is coated to accept ink uniformly while still showcasing the canvas texture. The satin finish on printed canvas protects the image from UV, fungus and moisture (the image can be wiped with a damp cloth for cleaning), and wrapping the canvas on a frame. Premium stretched canvas frames are finished with framing tape, felt bumpers and a wire hanger as per the Premium Frames. Budget stretched canvas are provided only with a D-ring hanger (single metal loop) screwed to the top/ rear of the frame. When ordering canvas prints, please specify if print is to wrap around, or if no stretching is required. 7

Using a special process where inks are infused into the surface of specially coated aluminium sheets provides a scratch resistant, waterproof and long lasting image. Watermarking is perfect for subtle numbers, codes, reference details to be printed that you want to be less visible and won t detract from design. NexPress - File Set-up (Technical Specifications) Trim Always include trim marks (trim area is the final size of your print job). Bleed (internal) We require 2.5mm of internal bleed on all files that means you need to keep all your important information away from this area. Background images and graphics are fine, just no critical information that can t be trimmed away. Including a small area of internal bleed on your print files allows for slight deviations when your job is being cut down to size. Bleed (external) We require 2.5mm of external bleed on all files. Your job is printed on a larger sheet than its finished size and then trimmed to size. External bleed is the area extending past your trim area and allows for a small amount of movement that may occur when your work is being cut to size. File Sizes When choosing a size to create your file some standard sizes we use are as follows. A4 297mmx210mm, DL 98mmx210mm, Business Card 90mmx55mm. If unsure of what sizes are suitable for folded cards, business cards etc. Please do not hesitate to contact our Digital, Design & Pre Press Department at HC Pro on or direct line on 5381 (5811) extension. Naming your files Clear and concise naming will ensure a smooth print process. So to begin with make your file name descriptive, but keep it short and sweet for example: Acme company are sending us their business card so they name the file ACME_BC.pdf. It will also help if a HC Pro Job Bag Reference Number is included in the file name. Supply in RGB mode You will have more control over the final appearance of your print job if all of your images remain in RGB rather than converting to CMYK before sending them to us. Our printer is colour managed and setup to utilise the RGB colour workspace. If profiling images embed the srgb IEC colour profile. Best resolution? Resolution is the number of pixels within an image. The higher the resolution, the better the picture, however if you have too high a resolution it is not utilised and makes your files too large. We suggest making your artwork at 300dpi when it s at full size. Resolution has an inverse relationship with size if you enlarge an image you lower its resolution and conversely, if you reduce an image you increase its resolution. How an image is originally attained will determine its resolution and what size it can be printed at in order to be clear and crisp. Creating your File We require all files to be supplied as pdf files. If your job is single sided then you simply supply a one-page pdf. If your job has two pages i.e.: a front and a back then we need a two-page pdf file, the first page of your pdf will be the front page and the second the back page. Please note that files supplied as: multiple files on a single page, a common back with multiple fronts or vice-versa, separate files, or EPS or JPEG files, will all have to be manually corrected by our operators. This may incur a nominal charge and may slow the turnaround time. File format We accept all industry standard programs - Adobe Creative Suite and Quark Xpress. We do however require print ready PDF files created to our own specifications. Files provided in another format will require our operators to complete a manual change and may incur a nominal charge (see Assisted Order on page 10). Always outline or embed your fonts Outlining or embedding the fonts that you use in your files means we can print them even if we don t have those particular fonts installed on our computers and they will look exactly the way you want them to. Remember you must have a license to embed certain fonts, please don t send fonts on a disc with your print job it is not legal. 13
