3 Project Description Enable greater uptake of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) info SAR proven ISR asset (technical; hard to interpret) Objective is to help Geo Techs incorporate SAR data i.e., Fusion of SAR-derived data w/ GIS map layers Developed Esri add-in RADARSAT Toolbar for ArcGIS - Ingest RS-2/RCM imagery and metadata - Performs a variety of SAR image processing tasks

10 System Environment Hardware - Processor speed: 2.2 GHz minimum; x86 or x64 with SSE2 extensions - 4 GB minimum memory; Video / graphics adapter: 512 MB minimum RAM, 1 GB RAM or higher recommended ArcGIS ; Spatial Analyst Add-in written in C#; customized GDAL Ingest metadata via RS-2 product.xml
11 Benefits ArcMap good platform to deliver specialized image processing capability; common tool across all government RADARSAT Toolbar fills a capability gap both within DND/GoC and commercially (SAR processing NOT the same as EO) What were we able to achieve? - RS Toolbar provides an interface between S&T experts and military Image Analysts and Geo Techs - SAR data exploitation becomes simply another map layer
12 Challenges Written for 10.3; will not work in 10.5 or 10.6 (!) IT group will have to set permissions for r/w access not always easy in a secure/controlled environment Not fully robust at the moment; there are DLLs and platform dependencies to be sorted out RS Toolbar is an excellent start at bringing SAR exploitation to non-experts
13 Future Plans Increased capabilities - Ingest data in RCM format - Amplitude and Coherent Change Detection (ACD/CCD) - Terrain analysis and classification Interest / development with other Gov t of Canada departments? Partnering with Esri?
