2 Description: Modern Model 3C-2B is a precision enlarger designed to take negatives up to 6.5 x 9 cm (21/2" x 31/2") for making enlargements either in Black & white or in Color. Since the enlarger head with stand can be moved on the baseboard round its vertical axis, bigger 'blow-ups' can be obtained by projecting the picture in the vertical direction outside the baseboard (e.g. upon the floor). By swinging the enlarger head on the stand into a horizontal position practically unlimited sizes of 'blow ups' can be made by projecting the picture upon a vertical auxiliary plane (e.g. a wall). The laminated base board on plywood is 24" x 30" size provided with metal channels at the bottom to prevent possible warping. There are 4 illustrative photographs as per particulars given below: A. Illustration 'A' for assembling: The enlarger unit is supplied in different packages containing baseboard, the column, the bellows assembly and the lamp house, etc. 1. First insert the upright triple column (no. 12) in base socket (no. 17) and lock the same using bolt (no. 20) provided on socket. 2. Open the bellows assembly package and slip on the supporting arm (no. 14) over triple column (no. 12). 3. Place over the bellows assembly the lamphouse base containing frame for condenser unit (no. 5) & Filter drawer (no. 23) and fix the same using knurled screw provided. Then place the lamp house (no. 4) onto above and fix the same by adjusting horizontally in the grooves provided. 4. Piano convex type condenser glasses are provided with mount, out of which 2 pieces are placed on the top in such a way that the 2 pieces together serve the purpose of one double convex glass. The whole condenser unit is housed in condenser frame (no. 5).

5. Use 100 or 150 watt opal enlarging screw type bulb and fix the same in the holder (no. 1) provided in the lamp house (no. 4). 6. After screwing in the enlarging lens (no.

After screwing in the enlarging lens (no. 8, which is usually kept detached in a separate box) on Leica mount thread lensboard fitted in the lens base (no. 22), the enlarger is ready for use. 7. When the enlarger is not in use, cover the same with dust cover provided with the unit.

Color head (to be imported) fitted onto enlarger head after removing lamphouse. It is a sophisticated useful accessory in color printing to replace loose glass or gelatin color filters.

6 Operating Instructions: 1. For enlargement size of the picture that is required, loosen the pole fixing knob (no. 15) and then raise or lower the enlarger head according to the requirement. Finer focusing of the projected negative onto the easel is done by means of focusing knob (no. 16) 2. If, higher magnification than that of maximum possibility by vertical projection onto the baseboard, is required the following procedure should be adopted: a. Projection upon a floor: Place the apparatus on the table so that the column-side edge of the baseboard is located on the front edge of the table, i.e. just the contrary to the usual way of enlarging. Load the baseboard sufficiently (e.g. with heavy books etc.), loosen the bolt No. 20 at the base stand and move the head with stand through 180 round its vertical axis. Afterwards, proceed normally, as in the case of ordinary enlargement and project the picture upon the floor. The enlargement size is adjusted within small limits by moving the head on the stand with the help of the knob No. 15. b. Projection on a wall: Should extra higher enlargements be required, which cannot be obtained even by projecting the picture upon the floor, do so by projecting horizontally upon a vertical plane. Place the apparatus on table in the normal way, loosen the knob No. 13 provided on the supporting arm, swing the head through 90 to the right into horizontal position and lock it in this position by tightening the same knob. On the vertical plane of projection (a wall), a photo sensitive paper is then fixed. Other operations are similar as in the case of usual enlargements. 3. When making different enlargements, check the uniformity of illumination. If there is less illumination at the corners of the projected image; loosen the knurled screw (no. 2) on the top of the lamphouse and move the socket holder (no. 1) in or out into a correct position. Once uniform illumination is obtained, lock the lamp in position by tightening the screw (no. 2). Upkeep of apparatus: Prior to making any enlargement, thoroughly clean the whole apparatus from dust. Clean, in particular, the condenser and the lens with a fine hair brush or with a piece of washed linen cloth. Keep the

7 glass-less and glass negative carriers clean at all times. The negative carriers should be clean prior to inserting the negatives. Take also special care not to scratch them. Any damage, impurity or dust, however small it might be, would produce a disturbing effect on the picture when magnified. Do not touch the apparatus with wet or dirty hands, in particular, when dealing with solutions and chemicals. The enlarger should be stored in a dry room and protected against dust by using a dust cover provided with the unit, when not in use. It is also recommended to keep the stand columns and the focusing system rod absolutely clean and to wipe them over from time to time as required with a cloth soaked with some machine oil or vaseline.
