2 INFRARED Docuenting Portable Infrared Theroeters Introduction Each body, at teperatures above the absolute zero (-273 C or K), eits energy as electroagnetic radiation. When teperature rises, the intensity of this infrared energy increases. The teperature of the body surface can therefore be deterined by easuring the intensity of this energy in a sall spectral band: the infrared region. The instruents used to easure this energy and to calculate the related teperature are called infrared theroeters or non-contact theroeters. Teperature easureents of a liquid or gaseous copound have been successfully ade with theroelectric or expansion theroeters, thanks to the good theral exchange of the sensor with the fluid. With solid bodies, a good theral exchange is difficult to be obtained and an additional easuring error should be considered. When the target is oving or is electrically hazardous, a contact teperature easureent can t be ade. Non-contact IR teperature easureent could be the only solution to the above application probles. 3 INFRARED Docuenting Portable Infrared Theroeters Instruent Highlights Optical Syste The optical syste consists of a high quality lens which brings the infrared energy to the detector; a filter and a field stop which defines the visual cone and the iniu target diensions. The detector is placed at the focal point of the optical syste. No focussing operations are required. Dual Optic The P8+ can be used both as a standard focus and a close focus infrared theroeter. Rotating the lens, the instruent change the optic and the dual laser change the inclination to the new focus point. P8+ Lens Position 1 Standard focus D:S=75:1 Pinpointing A correct aiing of the target is an iportant feature in a non-contact theroeter. Iediate evaluation of the sallest easurable target area is also an iportant factor in any applications. With a laser pinpointing the operation of the instruent is extreely siplified. You siply ai the target and read the teperature while keeping a safe body position. Available target pinpointing are: TTS - True Size A dual laser pointer define at different distances the true target diension. This unique and innovative syste go over the liits of the old crossed laser pointer based syste. TTS really guarantees the easuring of the true area diaeter along all the optical path. "Old" Dual Crossed Laser Pointer Adjustable Eissivity Infrared energy eitted by a surface differs according to its coposition and physical conditions. The paraeter used to characterize object surface is called eissivity. To obtain these teperature readings, it is necessary to set the right eissivity values of the surface to be easured. P is equipped with an eissivity adjustent fro.1 to 1. directly through keyboard. The instruent includes a typical eissivity aterials reference table. Calculated Measureents Measuring unstable input signals could be ade by prograing the digital filter. 5 P Mk2 INFRARED Software Package Display & Keyboard Therocouple Input To extend the operative capability, the instruent is equipped with an auxiliary input for therocouples type K and S. This feature, when used with a calibrated therocouple, can be used for autoatic eissivity adjustent. The therocouple can be used also to copensate teperature readings to reflected radiations fro hot crowns (e.g. reheating furnaces) or to easure objects internal teperature. Data Meory The instruent can be equipped with an internal eory to store up to 5 input data records coplete with date & tie acquisition. Two types of data acquisition can be selected by the user: Continuous acquisition The operator can select the interval tie between each acquisition and store progressively the input data in the "Tag " file. Acquisition by dedicated Tags Operator can assign one tag file for each apparatus or operating area and store, by pressing one key only, one or ore teperature easureents. The high contrast custo LCD display indicates the actual teperature value and shows the operative ode selected. The display backlight is autoatically switched on to allow easy reading in poor light conditions. IRLogMan 27 Software USB interface Standard Agencies and Quality Auditors require the collection, organization and availability of traceability docuents. IRLogMan supporting software is available to transfer a selection of plant inspections fro a PC to the internal eory of the instruent in order to siplify field check and select the appropriate tag nuber. Dedicated input data are eory stored and downloaded to a PC to docuent the inspection activity. Data can be saved on disks, viewed and printed in a nueric or graphic ode. Report of Calibration Each portable IR theroeter is factory calibrated and certified in according to Eurotron Standards, that are periodically certified by an International recognized Laboratory to grant traceability, and supplied with a Report of Calibration stating the noinal and actual values and the deviation errors.
