2 Underwriters Laboratories 746B-96 Polyeric Materials - Long-Ter Property Evaluations DEFINITIONS For the purpose of this specification, the following definitions apply: s eans rectangular containers ade of double twisted steel wire esh produced to the diensions shown in Table 1. Gabion Mats eans rectangular containers ade of double twisted steel wire esh produced to the diensions shown in Table 2. Lacing Wire eans a galvanized steel wire or galvanized steel wire with PVC coating used to asseble and interconnect gabion basket or gabion at containers and to close and secure stone filled containers MATERIALS s and Gabion Mats Gabion baskets shall be anufactured fro galvanized steel wire esh or PVC coated galvanized steel wire esh as specified in the Contract Docuents. When the type of esh is not specified in the Contract Docuents, the gabion baskets shall be anufactured fro PVC coated galvanized steel wire esh. Gabion ats shall be anufactured fro PVC coated galvanized steel wire esh. Gabion baskets and the base section of gabion ats shall have all coponents connected in such a anner that the strength at the point of connection eets the requireents of Table 3 as tested according to ASTM A 975, Section Wire Mesh The esh shall be woven fro wire using a double twist pattern to create unifor hexagonal openings of 83 x 114. The wire esh shall be non-ravelling and shall provide the strength listed in Table 3 as tested according to ASTM A 975, Section The perieter edges of the wire esh shall be woven around a selvage wire in a anner designed to prevent slippage and to create a selvage Wire The wire for wire esh, selvage wire, lacing wire, and internal connections shall be galvanized wire, soft teper, Class 3 coating, according to ASTM A 641. The wire diaeter shall be according to Table 4. The tensile strength of the wire shall be according to ASTM A 641 as tested according to ASTM A 370. Galvanizing on the wire shall eet the requireents of Table 4 as tested according to ASTM A 90M PVC Coating PVC coating shall be according to ASTM A 975 and shall have a iniu thickness of 0.38 with a noinal thickness of Prior to UV and abrasion degradation, the PVC polyer coating shall have a projected durability life of 60 years as tested according to UL 746B. 3 Fasteners General Fasteners shall be fabricated such that when the ends of the fastener are brought together and properly locked, the fastener fors a closed loop. The inside area of the closed loop shall be at least to enclose up to four selvage wires. Locked fasteners shall be able to resist a iniu direct force across any axis of 3 kn while reaining closed and locked Stainless Steel Rings Stainless steel rings shall be anufactured fro 3 diaeter stainless steel spring wire Type 302, Class 1, according to ASTM A 313M Interlocking Wire Fasteners Interlocking fasteners shall be anufactured fro 3 diaeter steel echanical spring wire Class 1, Finish 2, Type B, Tensile Class 2, according to ASTM A PRODUCTION General Gabion baskets and gabion ats shall be anufactured so that the sides, ends, lid, base, and diaphrags can be readily assebled into rectangular units. Where the length of the gabion basket exceeds its horizontal width, the gabion basket shall be divided into equal cells by diaphrags. Cell length shall not exceed its horizontal width. Diaphrags shall be ade of wire esh and shall be secured in the proper position on the base section. Gabion ats shall have diaphrags spaced at 1.0 across the width of the at and 3.0 along the length of the at. Gabion baskets or gabion ats shall be anufactured with all coponents connected at the production facility with the exception of the gabion at lid. Gabion baskets anufactured fro galvanized wire esh shall be assebled using either lacing wire or fasteners. Gabion baskets and gabion ats anufactured fro PVC coated galvanized wire esh shall be assebled using stainless steel ring fasteners. Fasteners shall be installed at a axiu spacing of 150 with at least one fastener per gabion esh opening Diensions and Tolerances Gabion baskets and gabion ats shall be produced to the sizes and diensions shown in Tables 1 and 2. All diensions are subject to a tolerance liit of ± 5%, except depth diensions, which are subject to tolerance liit of ± 5% for gabion baskets and ± 10% for gabion ats Packaging and Marking Each gabion basket and gabion at shall be clearly colour coded according to Tables 1 and 2 or otherwise suitably identified to indicate its size. Gabion baskets shall be shipped folded flat in bundles. Each bundle shall contain an equal nuber of one size of gabion baskets, except as necessary to coplete an order. Each bundle shall be clearly arked to show the size and nuber of baskets it contains. The axiu weight of one bundle shall be 850 kg. Noveber 2017 Page 3 of 6 OPSS.PROV 1430

4 Gabion ats shall be shipped in rolls with ends, sides, and dividers attached to the base. The gabion at lid and base units are to be shipped unattached, but rolled together as one. The axiu weight of one roll shall be 850 kg QUALITY ASSURANCE Inspection and Testing The Owner reserves the right to ake inspections and tests and at ties the Owner ay consider necessary to ensure that the aterials supplied are in accordance with this specification.
