3 We are coming to that time in our season when we must give some thought to the images we want to submit for judging at our annual salon. I always look forward to this event. The images are presented so well at the salon that they do generate interest not only for those of us who submit images but also for those who accompany us even if they don t engage in photography for a pastime or for income. So give it some thought and give us your submissions. You never know what different judges have to say about your work. Remember that only images you have already submitted to competition this season are eligible for entry to the salon.. We do want our work to be appreciated and scored so that we may possibly win a ribbon. But do all great photographs win? And what makes a great photo? We know that composition, lighting, focus and exposure create good images. And most agree that light is the most important ingredient. But what makes a person want to keep looking at an image? Really great is hard to define because as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So an image may score well in competition, or not. But, salon judging is done by three judges independently of our club. You may not score well at our regular competition night but, you may well end up winning at salon. Remember that in the long run you really are the only judge that counts. This month we will be looking for round things and bridges. Two topics that are easy pickings as they can be found pretty much everywhere. Small bridges, big bridges, garden bridges, car bridges. We have them all. Find one that inspires you and give it a shot or two. As for round things, again it is a very common shape. Balls, ornaments, flowers, lights, dishes, new electronics. The list could be endless. There is one more event coming up that is not listed in our Upcoming Events page. On Tuesday April 24 th, WCC will be hosting the GDCCC print competition. It will be held at the church. Anyone can attend and there is no charge. Doors open at 7pm. Judging begins at 7:30. WCC cannot enter as we are hosting but three of our members will be judging, prints to be scored out of 27. Members from 10 other clubs will be bring their prints. Come and see what other clubs do and meet some fellow photographers. And, as always, happy shooting.
