9 PRESS Norman Van Aken To Open a Restaurant and Cooking School in Wynwood This Fall James Beard award winning chef Norman Van Aken is bringing two new culinary outposts to East End Capital s soon-tobe-open Wynwood Arcade complex at 50 NW 24th Street, which also will be home to the The Salty Donut s future brick-and-mortar location. The space will feature a cooking school, led by Van Aken, called In the Kitchen with Norman Van Aken along with a yet-to-be named restaurant concept, both slated to open later this year. Norman Van Aken to open new Wynwood restaurant, cooking school this year Van Aken is clearly still in touch with the culinary scene. He has taught rising young chefs, such as Michael Beltran of the stellar Ariete in Coconut Grove, who studied under Van Aken at Tuyo and the Miami Culinary Institute. Van Aken said he s been looking for a way to leave a legacy, and that was the heart of the school, which will be called In the Kitchen with Norman Van Aken. It won t be a degree-based school but rather a place where techniques can be taught to everyone from home cooks to aspiring chefs.
