2 Con t from pg 1 Judy Bottler winner Superstition Judy Bottler learned photography while working as an aerialist with Ringling Bros., Barnum & Bailey Circus. I had to do something to keep interested we did 600 shows a year. After the circus she started shooting for newspapers and magazines, then started freelancing and doing art shows. She is entirely self taught, and uses medium format film and digital; each camera has its unique qualities. I like getting out and enjoying nature, exploring wherever a road goes. There s always something interesting to find! Sharron Eaton winner Chief Hi, I'm from Michigan and I've always loved to draw and paint. Since wintering in Arizona for several years, southwestern art has captured my heart. I like drawing portraits and I try to show the American Indian's proud, noble character. I enjoy belonging to the Mesa Art League and hope to contribute more in the future. REMEMBER TO BRING - Items for our service personnel and teddy bears for the children at the Crisis Center. Bring in photos of events you have participated in for the history books. Bring in empty pill bottles for Rosalie to donate to her church for an Africa project. MAL MEMBERSHIP SCHOLARSHIPS Scholarships are available to MAL members for attending a special workshop or class. You can apply for up to a $100 scholarship to help with the tuition fees. Due dates to apply for 2016 are: Feb 28, May 31, Aug 31, Nov 30. See application at: NEWS FROM AAA The AZ Art Alliance will be finding a new location soon and will be selling excess art equipment from their present warehouse. I hope you all got the eblast with the list and pictures of the glass jewelry cases, easels, chairs, pedestals, etc. This would be a great opportunity to pick up some pieces you need before they place the items on Craig s List. Send your offers to mbrady@azartalliance.com. The next show sponsored by AAA will be A Group Effort and will be a summer event, taking place in July/August. The location will be the Visions Gallery in Chandler, and a possibility of showing more art work, if necessary, at the Center for Performing Arts, just a couple of blocks down the street from the Gallery. Entries can be made from January 1 to April 22nd, and notification of acceptance will be May 19. Show dates: July 8 to August 27, with a reception in each location. The show will include 3D, sculpture and jewelry, with all items for sale, with AAA taking no commission and the Gallery taking a 30% commission. This looks like a great opportunity for artists, and the jurying will be tough because of limited space! Check online at for the prospectus and more details. Sign up to show your artwork on the AAA website for 6 months for $50! Get all the details and sign up on the website. AZ Art Alliance is looking for volunteers for the Outreach program; just 3 hours a month to help with busy work, paper shuffling and phone calls, etc. (no teaching!) Oh by the way, if you have entered the Interpretations show, and got your entry in before the Dec. 20th deadline, you will be receiving your notification of acceptance on January 31st. Your AAA Rep, Wilma Dilley MEMBER NEWS Peggy Wrobleski and Doug Craig had paintings accepted into the Glendale Arts Council show held in January. Peggy was awarded an Honorable Mention. Paul Gutch sold two photos as the Mesa Adult Center last month. The Meet and Greet at the Mesa Adult Center was featured in the Mesa Independent with a picture and a nice write-up by Richard Dyer. See and learn what is needed, what easels and palettes are available, how to transport your equipment and get your questions about plein air answered. Bruce will bring examples of plein air studies and will have examples of how to convert a plein air study into a final piece.
