2 Dear Student, Imagine your artwork displayed on a 36-foot moving billboard that travels throughout South Florida! And imagine your work gives a voice to more than 248,000 children who go to bed hungry. Feeding South Florida is excited to announce its new Summer Hunger Ends Here Art Competition presented by Delta Air Lines that showcases the talent of local high school students throughout Palm Beach, Broward, Miami- Dade, and Monroe Counties. You have the opportunity to create artwork that depicts summer hunger, shedding a light on the issue that impacts far too many of South Florida s children. Although the end of a school year is typically an exciting time for most kids, summer is one of Feeding South Florida s busiest seasons. For 555,302 children throughout South Florida, not having access to free or reduced-price meals means that summer is a difficult time. Participating in the competition is simple! Just complete the registration form and sign the student release. Registration opens February 5, All artwork must be submitted by March 30, Judging occurs the week of April 16, 2018 and first, second, and third place winners are announced on May 3, 2018 at Feeding South Florida s gallery night. The First Place and Winning artist receives the following: Artwork is displayed as a truck wrap on a 36-foot tractor/trailer that travels throughout Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe Counties. Artwork prominently displayed at Feeding South Florida s main warehouse until August 31, Artwork is the featured image for the Summer Hunger Ends Here campaign, which includes digital and print newsletters, social media, toolkit, and direct mail pieces. Honored at the Summer Hunger Ends Here annual recognition breakfast for partner agencies and volunteers. (July 2018, exact date TBD.) Announcement on social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. In addition to a panel of local judges selecting the winner, participants also have the chance to win a People s Choice vote, which comprises a portion of the total score. Artwork entries will be uploaded to Feeding South Florida s Facebook page. The entry with the most likes wins the community vote. Please review the enclosed competition rules and release form. 3 RULES AND REGULATIONS Artwork must be two-dimensional. Please make sure the artwork is designed horizontally rather than vertically. Artwork can be no larger than a 1:3 rectangle. Accepted mediums for the two-dimensional artwork are as follows: Paintings: oil, acrylics, watercolor, etc. Drawings: colored pencil, pencil, ink, marker, pastels, charcoal (It is recommended that charcoal and pastel drawings be fixed.) Mixed Media: use of more than two mediums such as pencil, ink, watercolor, etc. Graphic Design: must be two dimensional Winning artwork will be displayed as a truck wrap* on a 36-foot tractor/trailer, as such: Each entry must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate U.S. copyright laws. Any entry that has been copied from an existing photo or image (including a painting, graphic, or advertisement) that was created by someone other than the student is a violation of the competition rules and will not be accepted. INSPIRATION GUIDE Colors Symbolically orange has always been associated as the color of hunger awareness. It s one of our primary brand colors, and is used as a strong visual way to raise awareness for an issue that can easily go unseen. Green signifies rebirth, regeneration, and growth. These two colors, working together as our primary color palette, symbolize our approach to the problem of hunger in America. Apart from those colors, we also use fuchsia, blue, yellow to symbolize summer hunger. For us, the wheat stalk symbolizes growth toward the sky - symbolic of hope for a hunger-free America. Please feel free to use these colors/symbol as inspiration, and incorporate them in your artwork! *Please note: FSF Truckwrap artwork and placement of sposnor logo are subject to change based on winning art piece.

4 DATES TO REMEMBER February 5, 2018: Registration opens. March 30, 2018: Deadline to turn in artwork no later than 5:00 p.m. April 2, 2018: People s Choice Vote opens on Feeding South Florida s Facebook page. Week of April 16, 2018: Judging takes place at Main Warehouse. May 3, 2018: Gallery Night at Main Warehouse, winners announced. May 18, 2018: Wrapped truck is revealed and hits the road! STUDENT INFORMATION AND RELEASE FORM Each entrant must submit a Student Information and Release Form, which can be completed online at feedingsouthflorida.org/ways-to-help/art-competition. The form requires a description of the artwork, which should be detailed, clearly identifying the major elements of the work. For example, self-portrait or a picture of two people would be unacceptable, since many artworks would fit those descriptions. The following is an example of a useful description: A painting of two people; the person on the left wears a green sweater and khaki pants; the person on the right wears a black shirt and a striped skirt. A dog sits at their feet. The second page of the Student Information and Release Form contains a legal release and a certification that the artwork is original in design and execution. The student, an art teacher, and a parent or guardian must sign where appropriate. Entries without signed originality certifications and artwork releases may not be accepted. A copy of the Student Information and Release Form, signed by the teacher, a parent or guardian, and the student, must be securely attached to the back of the artwork to certify the originality of the piece. Please retain a copy for your record. Do not attach labels, ribbons, etc., to the front of the piece. Please indicate which side is up by marking arrows pointing towards the top on the back.
