1 ID312 History of Art and Architecture II: focuses on the understanding and appreciation of architecture and visual arts from the 18th Century to the beginnings of the 21st Century + ID413 Design Culture and Trend: undertakes a written research project to develop research skills and from the research, propose a design project for the final term; to develop critical thinking abilities that will strengthen and improve awareness, understanding and ability in design Image after 2002 Flemming-Honour Ltd Composition with Red, Blue and Yellow Piet Mondrian 1930ce Amsterdam
2 De Stijl: the Evolution of Neo-Plasticism In an attempt to classify the revolutionary experiments made by Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and Juan Gris when they were exponents of cubism, historians have tended to divide cubism into two stages. The early phase, generally considered to run from is called analytical cubism and the second is called synthetic cubism... Image after 2002 Flemming-Honour Ltd The Portuguese Georges Braque 1911ce Paris
3 De Stijl: the Evolution of Neo-Plasticism Analytical Cubism is a structured dissection of the subject, viewpoint-by-viewpoint, resulting in a fragmentary image of multiple viewpoints and overlapping planes. Other distinguishing features of analytical cubism were a simplified palette of colours, so the viewer was not distracted from the structure of the form, and the density of the image at the centre of the canvas. Image after 2002 Flemming-Honour Ltd Female Nude Georges Braque 1910ce Paris Female Nude Pablo Picasso 1910ce Paris
4 De Stijl: the Evolution of Neo-Plasticism Synthetic Cubism began when the artists started adding textures and patterns to their paintings, experimenting with collage using newspaper print and patterned paper. Analytical cubism was about breaking down an object (like a bottle) viewpoint-by-viewpoint, into a fragmentary image; whereas synthetic cubism was about flattening out the image and sweeping away the last traces of allusion to threedimensional space...
