Her accomplishments in the art arena are many, working in commercial art, teaching in public schools, and teaching international workshops and a wide variety of art classes. Her studies include the Kansas City Art Institute (Kansas City, Missouri), a B.A. degree at Western State College (Gunnison, Colorado), and ongoing workshops and seminars in the arts. Jan's focus is on layered and experimental art. t is of my. Using "My artwork is a reflection of who I am. I work in a spontaneous manner until I have built up a surface on a support by texturing, layering papers, and painting, often repeating this process many times. The ability to bring the various raw pieces and layers of materials into their final stages, within the whole of a painting... is 'accomplishment'... the exploration and experimentation of materials is like discovering a new world... transforming a mundane painting into work that is unique. You won t want to miss this lively demonstration, by the colorful (literally!) Ms. Sitts. Come early to find a good seat, vote for Painter of the Month and catch up on all the upcoming events. There will be entry forms for the Plein Air / Small Image Show that opens February 5th at the front desk. CVWS P.O. Box 565, Palm Desert, CA

Desert View Dr. ; Desert Hot Springs, CA Nancy Whelan, Del Lunde, Field Mice Co-Chairs PAINTER'S CORNER NANCY FREY Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans is how Nancy begins her biography. She has been a member of CVWS since 2005, serving as Sunshine Chair and Treasurer. Her love of painting was rekindled after being on hold for many years. She has taken numerous CVWS workshops with prestigious artists and instructors. Four years ago she suffered a stroke that resulted in a new normal. Eventually she was able to resume her art but, as she explains, instead of beginning with a subject to explore, she uses a gelatin printing pad to put paint to paper in random colors, shapes and sizes. Observing the results can lead to an idea to be developed in an experimental and artistic way. Nancy is now a gallery member at the Desert Art Center in Palm Springs and shows her work during the gallery season from October to June. She is looking forward to a featured show at the gallery with fellow artist and CVWS member Veronique Branger the first weekend in April Girls Night Out by Nancy Frey
