Spaulding; deaccessioned from the Museum of Fine Arts. N.B. Davis was born in Amesbury, Massachusetts, in 1856, and is perhaps best known for his cloudscape, landscape, animal, and figure paintings. From he studied with Gustave Boulanger and Jules-Joseph Lefebvre in Paris and spent time in Barbizon, where his approach towards painting underwent a unique change from a more tonal to impressionistic style. Shortly before returning to the states, one of his works earned him a silver prize at a Paris art exhibition. He then settled in Mystic, Connecticut, where he became one of the leading artists of the Mystic Colony of Impressionists. In 1906 he was awarded full membership into the National Academy of Design and in 1913 he founded the Mystic Art Association. Some of his most acclaimed works reside in collections throughout the country, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Corcoran Gallery, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and the Philadelphia Museum of Fine Arts. $10,000-15,
