4 R&F s Pigment Sticks are recognized as the premier oil-based painting stick, but their use goes far beyond painting alone. Pigment Sticks are composed of pure alkali refined linseed oil and purified natural plant and bee s waxes. They contain no driers, no fillers or adulterants and no expedients of any kind. Because we do not use short cuts, the wonderful workability of our Pigment Sticks depends upon a very careful balance of oil, waxes and pigment. The result is an intensively pigmented, handmade, traditional artist paint. Pigment Sticks are available in two sizes and 92 vibrant colors with a lipstick soft consistency. 6 When R&F began in 1988 it continued a tradition of high-quality commercial encaustic paint production dating back to the late 1940s. R&F s encaustics are milled with the time-honored methods of paintmaking. We use 100% pure pharmaceutical grade (USP) beeswax, which has been filtered without the use of chemicals, Singapore-grade damar resin and a heavy pigment load. All of this results in the highest quality artist paints on the market. R&F s ready-to-use cakes are now available in 84 colors and three sizes, allowing your customers to build a wider palette at an economical price. 8 MEDIUM Encaustic Medium is an essential supply that many encaustic painters will want to have on hand. Made of 100% USP beeswax and damar resin, this product is used to create transparency and extend encaustic paints. Bagged pellets are available in convenient (1) one, (2) two, (5) five, and (10) ten-pound bags. Poured 333 ml cakes are also available. ENCAUSTIC GESSO R&F s Encaustic Gesso provides an easy-to-use, water-based ground specifically formulated for use with encaustic paints. This gesso differs from typical acrylic gesso by having a lower proportion of binder to solid, which enables it to be highly absorbent while retaining the adhesive qualities of the acrylic. With our Encaustic Gesso your customer will be able to quickly and easily apply a brushable, white ground that quickly dries to a ready-to-paint surface. Encaustic gesso is available in 4 oz, 16 oz, 32 oz and 128 oz sizes. IMPASTO MODELING WAX Our Impasto Modeling Wax is a blend of microcrystalline (petroleum) waxes and beeswax. ENCAUSTIC PALETTES A heated palette is an item on the wish list of every serious encaustic artist. R&F s palettes are designed specifically with the encaustic painter in mind. They feature an anodized aluminum surface which prevents reactivity that could discolor pigments. Artists will have the option of using palette cups or mixing their colors directly on the surface. 11 HEATED PALETTES ENCAUSTIC TOOLS HOT TOOLS HEAT GUN The heat gun is a tool that many encaustic painters cannot do without. It is used for heating and fusing encaustic paints without touching the surface. This gun features a 1" (2.5cm) nozzle opening, dual fan speed, as well as an adjustable temperature dial for better control. Heat gun nozzles are available in Fan and Reduction. R&F HEATED HAND TOOLS The R&F heated handle, temperature regulator and screw-on tips allow the artist to fuse and manipulate the encaustic surface with ease. HEATED HANDLE The wooden handle plugs into the temperature regulator and has the ability to accept interchangeable tips. TEMPERATURE REGULATOR The temperature regulator is a necessary component to keep the heated tools at a safe working temperature. This regulator accepts one tool at a time and plugs into a standard 120 v. household outlet. SCREW-ON TIPS Available in horn, burnisher and iron shapes. These functional tools vary in size and are designed for use with the R&F heated hand tool. COLD FLEXIBLE TOOLS R&F s new Encaustic tools help the professional artist finesse the surface of their encaustic paintings with control and precision like never before. Designed after the tools that the first practitioners of encaustic used in ancient times, they can be used with or without heat to create a more refined surface. These tools are made of high carbon steel and are expertly finished. ENCAUSTIC BRUSHES R&F s encaustic brushes meet the unique demands of encaustic painting. These high quality brushes are made from natural hair, rather than synthetic fibers to prevent melting and scorching on heated surfaces. The full line includes 27 varieties of natural chunking bristle brushes, including bright, flat, filbert, short filbert, round and fan shapes. Three additional sizes of flat brushes are available in a custom blend of softer natural hair. These are ideal for working with thinner viscosities of color and creating smooth enamel-like finishes. 12 R&F WORKSHOP PROGRAM R&F Handmade Paints began to develop a workshop format in 1995 that would introduce artists to fundamental encaustic painting techniques. The first workshops offered were our Comprehensive Encaustic Workshops, and many of the students who took them are now among the most popular artists working in the medium today. Over the years, the reach of our workshops has expanded exponentially and course offerings are now available in a variety of formats and skill levels at various venues throughout the United States and at select international locations. 13 R&F WORKSHOPS DEMO EVENTS BROCHURES DEMONSTRATION EVENTS R&F s Encaustic Demonstration Events are designed to give your customers and staff an opportunity to experience encaustics firsthand. Typically a demo event will run about 1 1/2-2 hours and we provide a skilled and R&F trained artist/instructor with all necessary materials and supplies prior to the date of the event. The instructor will arrive at your location prepped and ready-to-go with an R&F heated palette, heat gun, paint, brushes and Encausticbords to demo with and for your customers to sample. All participants will be provided with our promotional materials (brochures, basic encaustic instructional manual and printed color charts). During the demo event the instructor will speak briefly about the history of encaustic paint and will demonstrate the different techniques one can use when working with encaustics. He/she will discuss health and safety, studio set-up and ventilation. It is of the utmost importance to us to partner stores with local R&F trained instructors. In many instances these artists will become an additional resource to you. Demonstration events are a great way to introduce our product line into your store!
