KWONG ext. 6146, G014 (inside Art Hall) Office hours: TBC Course assistants: Ms. Grace CHING ext. 5882) Ms. Rita YAU ext. 6654, 5/F Student Life Center) Art Tutorials (12 weeks) Tutorial 1: Acrylic Figure Painting (Instructor: Mr. Mac Mak, A & M Workshop) Tue, 18:30 20:50, Rm3584 Tutorial 2: Ceramics (Instructor: Ms. Jervis Ng, the Claystation) Wed, 18:30 20:50, with additional lessons on Mondays and a Friday, LG5326 Tutorial 3: Black and White Photography (Instructor: Mr. Leon Suen, Lumenvisum) Thu, 18:30 20:50, outing on 27/3, LG5326 & LG5207 Enrichment Activities (attend at least 2 and submit reports) Topics: field trips and art workshops : weekday evenings and Saturdays Course This is an experiential learning course designed to engage students in exploring arts and their own creative abilities through a series of lectures/seminars on arts and creativity, art tutorials and enrichment activities. Students will have the opportunities to create their own artwork and learn through guided reflective activities individually as well as in groups. Intended Learning Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students are expected to be able to: a) Understand the theory of creativity and the creative process in relation to visual arts b) Demonstrate the competency at fundamental level of a practical creative skill as defined by the instructor of separate art tutorials c) Apply artistic ability to generate original artworks and communicate visually d) Be exposed to different types of artworks, and to the environment in which artworks are produced and marketed e) Demonstrate reflective ability in the understanding and appreciation of artworks 1
2 Assessment of Students Performance a) Written Assignment (30%) due 6/5 (Mon) b) Enrichment Activity Reports (10%) due 1 week after the activity d) Artwork I (15%) due 25/3 (Mon) e) Artwork II (15%) due 13/5 (Mon) c) Performance in art tutorial (by respective instructor) (20%) f) Learning Portfolio (10%) due 13/5 (Mon) Penalty for submissions late for 1 week Disqualification! Figure painting is the traditional cornerstone of art training. The human figure offers every challenge to the potential artist, who has to master its form and flesh tone, its perspective and proportion, to name a few. 4 Tutorial 2: Ceramics Date: 6/3 15/5 (every Wed, except 3/4, 1/5) AND 11/3, 8/4, 10/5 Venue: LG5326 Instructor: Ms. Jervis Ng Material fee: around $500 (Clay) *Please bring your own pencil, paper and apron to class every time. Ceramics is an ancient Greek art of using clay to produce utensils and sculpture for various purposes. In the process, clay is shaped and fired in a kiln to make it permanent.
