All straight-seam sewing and a traditional bound edge make this a terrific project for the confident beginner and beyond. Read the entire pattern before beginning. All seam allowances are ¼".

2 The Burano table runner is a simple project with big impact thanks to Jinny Beyer s beautifully shaded fabrics. The full and half-log cabin blocks are foundation-pieced for accuracy and to eliminate having to work with stretchy bias edges. All straight-seam sewing and a traditional bound edge make this a terrific project for the confident beginner and beyond. Read the entire pattern before beginning. All seam allowances are ¼". Pattern assumes basic quiltmaking and foundation piecing knowledge. Press seams after sewing. WOF = width of fabric, assuming 42" of usable fabric; LOF = length of fabric. Step 1: Copy & Prepare the Foundations Make four copies of the Foundation A sections on pages 3-5. Make six copies of the Foundation B sections on page 6. Ensure that the copies are accurate by measuring the Printing Size Check box on page 5 of the copies. Since the foundations are too large to fit on a single page, after copying, tape the sections of each foundation together along the dashed lines. Foundation B needs to made in two different color versions. On four of the copies, cross out the second fabric number in each position (for example, Fabric 6 / 11); you will use the first fabric noted in making these four foundations. Mark these Foundation B1. On two of the copies, do the opposite: cross out the first fabric number in each position (for example, Fabric 6 / 11); you will use the second fabric noted in making these two foundations. Mark these Foundation B2. Step 2: Cut the Fabrics Follow the cutting instructions on page 7. Step 3: Make the Foundations On the foundations, the number in the black circle ( # ) indicates the piecing order. The fabric number and the length of the strip required are also indicated for each section. Cut each strip to the length noted before sewing it to the foundation; all the strip widths and lengths are slightly oversized. Sew the strip for Area 3 using the same process, trimming the ends of the strip even with the fabric pieces to which it is sewn. Repeat this process until the foundation is complete, following the piecing order numbers. After completing a foundation, press well and trim the outside edge of the fabric and foundation along the outer solid lines of the foundation. (The strips for the outermost positions were cut slightly wider to provide a margin of error.) Do not remove the paper. Repeat to make four blocks. Foundation B Working first with B1 Foundations, complete them in the same manner as Foundation A, beginning with the Fabric 2 triangles in Area 1. Repeat to make four blocks. Next, complete the B2 Foundations, beginning with the Fabric 7 triangles in Area 1. Repeat to make two. Step 4: Assemble the Table Runner Follow the steps below to assemble the table runner. A B1 Foundation A Pin a Fabric 1 square over the shaded Area 1 on a foundation, wrong side of the fabric against the unprinted side of the paper. Next, lay the indicated Fabric 2 strip on the square, right sides together. Pin in place if necessary. Double-check to make sure that it will completely cover Area 2 when sewn, adjusting if necessary. a) Sew a Foundation B1 to the lighter side of a Foundation A, matching the dots printed on the foundations. Repeat to make four. Turn the foundation over and, using a short stitch length, sew through all layers along the line on the printed side of the foundation. (This makes it easier to remove the paper later.) Flip the strip right side up and press the seam. With the paper on top, fold the foundation back along the line separating Area 2 from Area 6 and trim the fabric ¼ beyond the fold. Trim the ends of the strip even with the Fabric 1 square. Layer the project as follows: backing (wrong side up), batting, table runner (right side up). Baste the layers together. Quilt as desired. When the quilting is completed, trim the backing and batting even with the edges of runner. Bind using the reserved Fabric 6 and your favorite method, or by following the instructions at Refer to the Binding Odd Angles section for tips on handling the four corners of the runner.
