Page 2 of 15 Block 1 - The Snowflake 1. To make the background, cut (2) 7 x 13 1/2" rectangles of the 2218-01W. Piece together to make a 13 1/2 square.

(Note: If you wish to do needle turn applique you will need to add your seam allowance before cutting out the snowflake template.) 3.

2 Page 2 of 15 Block 1 - The Snowflake 1. To make the background, cut (2) 7 x 13 1/2" rectangles of the W. Piece together to make a 13 1/2 square. (Note: The block is cut oversized so that it can be trimmed after appliqueing the snowflake.) 2. Trace (6) snowflake patterns on to the paper side of the fusible web. (Note: If you wish to do needle turn applique you will need to add your seam allowance before cutting out the snowflake template.) 3. Place the fusible side on the wrong side of and following the manufactures instructions fuse to the wrong side of the fabric. 4. You will have one horizontal seam through the center of your block. Position your background so that the seam runs horizontally. Remove the paper from your applique pieces and evenly space them around the center of the block. (see diagram above, two of the pieces will lie on the horizontal seam.) Following the manufactures instructions for your fusible, fuse the pieces to the background square. 5. Using matching thread and a blanket stich, stich around each applique piece. 6. Square up and trim your block to 12 1/2" square after all the snowflake pieces have been sewn down. Block 2- Striped Tree 1. For the Background, cut (2) 6 5/8 x 22 rectangles from W 2. Place the rectangles wrong sides together and with a long ruler, cut on the diagonal. 3. You will only use one half of the rectangle. From the other half cut (2) 5 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles for the trunk row. Use this half for the block Cut (2) 4 1/2" x 5 1/2"

Block 3 - Triangle Tree 1. For the Background, cut (2) 9 5/8 x 19 1/4 rectangles from W. For the trunk background cut (2) 8" x 6 1/2" rectangles from W. 2. Place the rectangles wrong sides together and with a long ruler, cut on the diagonal. 3. You will only use one half of the rectangle. 4. For the Tree Trunk, cut (1) 6 1/2" x 3 1/2 rectangle from the Use this half for the block 5. Line the bottom of the triangle along the bottom edge; the top edge of the template will meet the top edge of the fabric. Sew the rows together to make the package. 3. To make the bow you will need to copy the foundation patterns onto a foundation paper. 4. Cut the following fabrics for the bow. Fabric Cut Position (2) 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" A2, B2 (2) 2 1/4" x 8" C1, D (2) 3 1/2" x 5 1/4" A4, B4 (2) 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" C2, D W (4) 3" x 6" A1, B1 and A3, B3 (2) 3 1/2" x 5" A5, B5 (2) 3 1/2" x 4 1/2" C3, D3

Page 7 of 15 5. Beginning with Section A, gather pieces A1 - A5. Place piece 1 on the unprinted side of the foundation and line up so that all of section 1 is covered.

Audition the piece to ensure that it completely covers section 2 when sewn. 7. Shorten your stitch length and sew on the solid line between sections 1 and 2. 8. Finger press piece 2 open. 9.

7 Page 7 of Beginning with Section A, gather pieces A1 - A5. Place piece 1 on the unprinted side of the foundation and line up so that all of section 1 is covered. Pin or use a small amount a fabric glue to hold in place. 6. Take the fabric for section 2 and place right sides together with fabric 1. Audition the piece to ensure that it completely covers section 2 when sewn. 7. Shorten your stitch length and sew on the solid line between sections 1 and Finger press piece 2 open. 9. Fold the foundation on the line between sections 2 and 3 and carefully trim seam allowance to 1/4" from the folded edge of the foundation. 10. Sew the two halves together to complete the bow. 16. Sew the Bow to the top of the package. 17. Cut (2) 12 1/2" x 3 1/2" strips from the W. 18. Sew these to each side of the completed block. The block will measure approximately 12 1/2" x 24 1/2"

8 Page 8 of 15 Assemble the Quilt Center 1. Sew blocks 1 and 2 together 2. Sew blocks 3 and 4 together 3. Sew the two sections together to complete the quilt center. 4. The quilt center should measure approximately 36" x 36"

9 Page 9 of 15 Borders and Binding First Border 1. From the 1351-Onyx, cut (5) 2 1/4" x WOF strips and set aside for the binding. Cut (4) 1 1/2" x WOF strips. Subcut into (2) 1 1/2" x 36 1/2" strips and (2) 1 1/2" x 38 1/2" strips for the first border. 2. Sew the 36 1/2" strips to the sides and the 38 1/2" stips to the top and bottom. Second Border 1. From the , cut (3) 4 3/4" strips. Cut strips into (12) 7 1/2" x 4 3/4" rectangles and (4) 4 1/2" squares. Set the squares aside. 2. Layer (2) rectangles, wrong sides together and cut on the diagonal once. You will have mirror image triangles by placing wrong sides together. 3. Make a plastic template of the border triangle and use to trim the ends of the half rectangle triangles. 4. From the , cut (3) 4 3/4" strips. Cut strips into (12) 7 1/2" x 4 3/4" rectangles. 5. Layer (2) rectangles, wrong sides together and cut on the diagonal once. 6. Use the template from step 3 above to trim the triangle ends. 7. Place a white triangle with a black triangle, right sides together an stitch along the long diagonal. You will now have a completed rectangle unit. Use the remaining triangles to make (12) left-handed and (12) righthanded rectangles. Make 12 Make Assemble (3) left-handed and (3) right-handed rectangles as shown. 9. Make (4) units.add a 4 1/2" square to each end of (2) border units.

Page 10 of 15 10. Add the borders to your quilt center. The finished quilt top will measure approximately 46 1/2" x 46 1/2" Layering, Quilting and Finishing 1.

Cut (2) 58 1/2" x WOF strips from the backing fabric. Sew the strips together and trip to make a 58" x 58" backing piece. 2. Press the quilt top and backing well. Layer backing (wrong side up), batting and quilt top (right side up) and baste. Quilt as desired and trim excess batting and backing when quilting is complete. 3. Cut the ends of the binding strips at a 45-degree angle and sew end to end to make one continuous piece of binding. Fold in half lengthwise and press wrong sides together. Sew the binding to the from of the quilt, raw edges together. Turn and fold edge to the back, and hand stitch in place.
