5 Element 3: Leaf with Stem ch 11, sc in 2nd ch from hook, in the remaining chs work: hdc, dc, 4 htr (half-triple: yo2x but work like dc pull thru 2 then thru 3), in last 3 chs work dc, hdc, sc, at end ch 2 {I like to use a ch2 at the tip of the leaf because it slightly increases the length, makes it pointy, and provides a natural rotation} sc in 2nd ch from hook, and working over tail and into the single loops on this side mirror each st, at end, ch 1, rotate for oval, sc in each st along side (10 total), ch 2, sc in 2nd ch from hook and rotate for oval, mirror sts on this side (11 total sc), at end, sl st in bottom, ch 21, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each of the 19 chs remaining, sl st in sc at base, then work one more round of sc around the leaf (chaining 2 at end, sc in 2nd ch from hook to rotate for oval) and mirroring the sc only along the side to end, join with sl st. End. Break thread long. Pin on blocking board to shape. Elements 4-6: Solid Leaves All of the solid leaves are worked similar to Leaf #3. Leaves No. 4 and 6 are relatively the same size and begin with a ch of 11, worked 1x around in sc. Note that Leaf #4 has no stem and Leaf #6 has a short stem consisting of a ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next, sl st, join/end. Leaf No. 5, the narrowest of the solid leaves, is slightly different in that it lacks the mirrored stitches on the opposite side, rather it is worked on one side of the starting ch 12 then immediately surrounded in sc 1x around. It also lacks a stem.

6 Elements 7-9: Reticulated Leaves All of the reticulated leaves begin with a solid leaf similar to those made previously. The largest #9 begins with a ch 11, the other smaller leaves #7 and #8 begin with a small ch of 7, omitting htr so they're not as wide. All lack the sc around the perimeter. Upon making the leaf, ending at the lower point, begin the final two rounds with a ch 2, *[yo, go under the ch2, draw up a loop] *repeat twice, draw through all loops on the hook, ch 3 (one to secure the knot and one or two for distance), sk 1 st on leaf, hdc in next st on leaf, ch 1 (for room), **[yo, go under the bar of the hdc, draw up a loop] **repeat twice, draw through all loops on the hook, ch 3, sk 1 st on leaf, hdc in next and **repeat all around, at end, join with sl st to beginning knot, ch 1, in each ch3sp work 3 sc at tip work 4 sc in the ch3sp to rotate for oval and continue 3 sc in each ch3sp, at end, create stem (if applicable), then end. Break thread long and pin on pattern.

7 Element 10: Main Vine ch 60, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch, at end, ch 1, rotate for oval, sc over vine and into the sc now located on the bottom (to thicken but not widen), at end, add 1 or 2 extra sc in last st to narrow. End. Break thread long. Pin on pattern. Element 11: Short Vine The short vine is similar to the vine used on Leaf #3 in that, it is a ch with sc on one side only. Ch desired length, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each remaining ch, at end, break thread long. Pin on pattern. Assembly With wide-eye embroidery or sewing needle, use tails to sew/attach components together making sure joins are tight, then weave in remainder of tail and snip. Once all the elements are joined, remove pins and lift off as one piece. Optional: Face down, iron on cotton with steam setting and starch. Repin on blocking surface to dry.

8 Layout Ideas In Irish Crochet: Create a mirror copy with a coaster size "Clock" motif between. To make a mirror copy, hold the pattern drawing against a window pane and trace the back side. The Vincente Clock is the same pattern as Element #1; the large flower herein except that it has 12 points and a surround/edging. The clock hands (optional) can be made free form and onion-stained. Mirror copies of the spray make a nice child-size collar or could be situated to form the upper wings of a Component Crochet butterfly. The End.
