4 Copyright 2011 DCollinsworth 4 MATERIALS: 3-4 oz TLC Essentials yarn in Sandstone (2327) size H crochet hook or hook to obtain gauge, stuffing, small amount of brown and beige felt, craft glue, white fabric paint, 75 pop tabs and needle to take yarn. Gauge: 3 hdc = 1, 3 rows hdc = 1-1\2 Finished Size: 9 tall FRONT OF HEAD: Please note: PT Sc stands for Pop Tab Single Crochet. To make the stitch, you work 2 loops of the sc on your hook, slide one end of a pop tab down your hook so it is against the hook and yarn, yo and finished the single crochet. RND 1: Ch-1, work 12 hdc in ring, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (12 sts) RND 2-3: (2 hdc next st, hdc next st) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (18 sts)(27 sts) RND 4: * (sc, pt sc) next st, pt sc next 2 sts, * rep bet ** around, sl st top beg sc, ch-1, turn. (36 sts) RND 5: Sc ea st around, sl st top beg sc, ch-1, turn. RND 6: * (Sc, pt sc) next st, pt sc next 3 sts, * rep bet ** around, sl st top beg sc, ch-1, turn. (45 sts) RND 7: sc ea st around, sl st top beg sc, fasten off. BACK OF HEAD: With Sandstone and H hook rep rnd 1-3 of front of head. RND 4: (2 hdc next st, hdc next 2 sts) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (36 sts) RND 5: (2 sc next st, sc next 3 sts) around, sl st top beg sc, fasten off. (45 sts) With needle and yarn sew the front to the back stuffing it as you sew. EAR: ROW 1: With Sandstone and H hook ch-6, sc 2nd ch from hook, hdc next ch, 3 dc next ch, hdc next ch, sc last ch, fasten off. (7 sts) -Make 2. Sew one to ea side of face in front of mane. BODY: RND 1: With Sandstone and H hook ch-14, hdc 3rd ch from hook, hdc next 10 ch, 3 hdc last ch, turn so you are now working across the bottom of the foundation ch (in bottom of sts just made), hdc next 10, 2 hdc last, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (26 sts) RND 2-7: Hdc ea st around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. RND 8: 2 hdc next 2 sts, hdc next 10, 2 hdc next 3, hdc next 10, 2 hdc last st, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. Stuff leg half way up and sew foot to the bottom ea leg. Sew legs to front of lion just under the head. HIND LEGS: With Sandstone and H hook rep rnd 1-9 of front legs. RND 10: (2 hdc next st, hdc next st) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (18 sts) RND 11: Hdc ea st around, sl st top beg hdc, fasten off. -Make 2. BOTTOM FOR HIND LEGS: With Sandstone and H hook rep rnd 1 of foot bottom. RND 2: (2 sc next st, sc next st) around, sl st top beg sc, fasten off. (18 sts) -Make 2. Stuff leg half way and sew bottom to ea leg. Sew one leg to ea side of lion. TAIL: RND 1: Ch-1, work 6 hdc in ring, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (6 sts) RND 2-3: PT hdc ea st around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. RND 4-8: Hdc ea st around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. End rnd 8 fasten off. Sew tail to center back of lion.

6 Copyright 2011 DCollinsworth 6 FINISHING TOUCHES: Cut the nose and pupils from brown felt. Cut the eyes from beige felt. Glue to face of lion. With fabric paint add a dot or two to pupil of ea eye. 7 Copyright 2011 DCollinsworth 7 To work a Pop Tab Half Double Crochet of PTH you begin with a half double crochet. Make the stitch as you would normally, but slide a pop tab on the hook before you make the final yo and pull through all loops on the hook.
