1 The Million-Use Bucket Bag By Devon Iott This cute and functional bucket bag has a million uses It s the perfect size for a knitting project on the go, a lunch, toys for the kiddos in the back seat, or anything else you need to tote around. The outside would be a great place for a monogrammed name or other embroidered embellishment. The inside features pockets for smaller items, and the top closes securely via drawstring. Sewing Supplies: HUSQVARNA VIKING DESIGNER DIAMOND ROYALE sewing and embroidery machine Utility Foot A ½ yard home décor weight fabric for exterior ½ yard quilt weight fabric for lining ½ yard heavy weight fusible interfacing 2 yards ⅜ ribbon or twill tape Sewing thread Basic sewing kit Cut: From exterior fabric: 1 piece 8¾ circle template included on last two pages (bottom) 2 pieces 14 Lx13¼ W (panels) Page 1 of 4

2 From lining fabric: 1 piece 8¾ circle template included on last two pages (bottom) 2 pieces 14 Lx13¼ W (panels) 2 pieces 7¾ Lx13¼ W (pocket) From interfacing: 1 piece 8¾ circle template included on last page (bottom) 2 pieces 13¼ Lx12½ W (panels) Prepare: 1. If necessary, cut and assemble the circle template included on the last two pages. Use this template to cut the circles listed above. 2. Fuse interfacing centered to wrong sides of coordinating exterior pieces. 3. Optional (not pictured): Embroider a name or other embellishment centered in the lower half of one of the exterior panels. Sew All seam allowances are ⅜ unless otherwise noted. 1. Thread machine with regular sewing thread. Sewing Mode. Select stitch A1:8. Snap on Utility Foot A. 2. Place the two pocket pieces right sides together. Stitch together along one long edge. Press seam open, then bring sides wrong sides together and press. Topstitch ⅛ in from seamed edge. 3. Align raw edges of pocket with lower raw edges of one lining panel. Mark a line on pocket 4½ in from each side edge. Stitch along both lines to create three pocket compartments, backstitching at beginning and end. Baste around raw pocket edges at ¼. 4. Place lining panels right sides together. Stitch together along both side edges and press open. Page 2 of 4

3 5. Fold lining bottom in half and finger press to crease. Pin to lower edge of lining, right sides together, aligning crease with side seams. Ease and pin together all the way around, lining up the straight edge of the lining with the circular edge of the bottom. Stitch together around ¾ of the circle, leaving the rest open. Turn right side out. 6. On exterior panel side edges, measure 3½ and 4 down from top and mark both. 7. Pin exterior panel side edges right sides together. Starting at the top, stitch to the first mark and backstitch. Then start a new seam at the second mark, backstitching at the beginning, and sew to the bottom. Repeat with other side. Press both seams open. 8. Topstitch ⅛ to either side of both side seams. You will have to scrunch the fabric to fit it in the machine, but it is possible. 9. Attach the exterior bottom to the exterior panels the same way you did the lining, this time sewing completely around the circle. 10. Turn exterior [if necessary] so that wrong side is out. Place lining inside exterior so that right sides are together. Align and pin the top edges. Stitch together all the way around. 11. Turn everything right side out through hole in lining. Fold under edges of lining hole and edge stitch to close. 12. Stuff lining down inside bag. Press upper edge, rolling lining just to the inside of the bag. Topstitch around the top ⅛ in from the edge. 13. Measure 2¾ down from top edge. Topstitch all the way around the bag at this point to create the upper edge of the casing. Sew from the outside, but take care that the lining is smooth and flat on the inside. Page 3 of 4

4 14. Sew another line of topstitching 1 below the previous. 15. Cut ribbon in half. Using a bodkin or safety pin, thread ribbon in through one side seam opening, all the way around, and out the same hole. Repeat with the other ribbon piece and other side seam opening. Trim ribbon ends if necessary and knot together. Page 4 of 4
