ITH Christmas Friends These adorable Christmas Friends look just too cute on the Christmas tree, on gift cards and also on the shelf above the fireplace. They use small amounts of craft felt, making these the ideal way to use up left over bits lying in the sewing room drawer. They are made in the hoop and are then assembled using a bit of hot glue. Santa, Elf and Snowman are each done in 1 hooping and Rudolph is done in 2. These are done in the 5 x7 hooop Materials: Cut Away Stabilizer Pieces of felt in various colors Thin cord Hot Glue Craft Pipe Cleaners Temporary Adhesive Spray
Santa Load Santa design to your machine. Hoop 1 layer of cutaway stabilizer. Color stops have been put into the design. These are marked with _ML (marking line) and _SL (sewing line) Use white or a color to match the felt for these. Stitch the first color. Spray the stabilizer with temporary adhesive spray. Place a piece of red felt over the stitched area. Stitch Santa s body, stopping with color before the _SL color stop. Put another piece of red felt over Santa s body and the the _SL color. This completes santa s body. Trim away excess felt leaving 1/4 around the design. Now for Santa s head. Stitch the first color. This is the _ML colorstop. Place a piece of whit felt to the underside of the hoop to cover the area. Use temporary adhesive spray to hold the felt in place. Stitch the next color. This will hold the white backing felt. We are now going to stitch _ML colorstop and place felt, then we will stitch the placed felt in place and trim. This is done for Santa s face, hat and beard, in that order
One all the felt is placed, stitch out Santa s face. Now for his hands and feet. Stitch the _ML. This will mark for both the hands and feet. Place flesh felt on both sides of the design (front and back of the hoop) for his hand and black felt for his feet. Stitch the last two colors. Cut Santa s pieces out of the stabilizer. Turn Santa s body right side out. Now to assemble! For this you will need a red craft pipe cleaner, all the Santa pieces you have just embroidered, a hot glue gun and a piece of cord to make a hanger. I usually use around abut 6 of cord for the hanger. Cut the pipe cleaner in half. The one half we will use for the arms. The other piece of pipe cleaner we will fold in half to make his legs. Place a blob of hot glue in the opening of Santa s body and put his legs in, folding in the raw edge at the same time. Glue his feet to the pipe cleaner.. Now glue the other pipe cleaner to the body (either front or back) Glue Santa s hands to the ends of the pipe cleaner. Lastly glue Santa s head to his body and glue on the cord
Elf Load Elf design to your machine. Hoop 1 layer of cutaway stabilizer. Color stops have been put into the design. These are marked with _ML (marking line) and _SL (sewing line) Use white or a color to match the felt for these. Stitch the first color. Spray the stabilizer with temporary adhesive spray. Place a piece of green felt over the stitched area. Stitch the next 2 colors. Place a piece of light green felt over the last stitched area. Stitch Elf s body, stopping with color before the _SL color stop. Put another piece of green felt over Elf s body and the the _SL color. This completes Elf s body. Trim away excess felt leaving 1/4 around the design. Now for Elf s head. Stitch the first color. This is the _ML colorstop. Place a piece of whit felt to the underside of the hoop to cover the area. Use temporary adhesive spray to hold the felt in place. Stitch the next color. This will hold the white backing felt. Stitch the next _ML. This places Elf s hat. Place a piece of green felt over the area and stitch the hat in place. Trim away the excess green felt. Stitch the red stripes on Elf s hat
Next we stitch the _ML for Elf s face. Place a piece of flesh felt for Elf s face and stitch in place. Trim away extra felt. Stitch Elf s facial features. Stitch the _ML for the trim on Elf s hat. Place a piece of white felt and stitch in place. Trim away excess felt. And that is Elf s face done Now for Elf s hands and feet. Stitch the _ML. This will mark for both the hands and feet. Place flesh felt on both sides of the design (front and back of the hoop) for his hand and green felt for his feet. Stitch the last two colors. Cut Elf s pieces out of the stabilizer. Turn Elf s body right side out. Now to assemble! For this you will need a green craft pipe cleaner, all the Elf pieces you have just embroidered, a hot glue gun and a piece of cord to make a hanger. I usually use around abut 6 of cord for the hanger. Cut the pipe cleaner in half. The one half we will use for the arms. The other piece of pipe cleaner we will fold in half to make his legs. Place a blob of hot glue in the opening of Elf s body and put his legs in, folding in the raw edge at the same time. Glue his feet to the pipe cleaner.. Now glue the other pipe cleaner to the body (either front or back) Glue Elf s hands to the ends of the pipe cleaner. Lastly glue Elf s head to his body and glue on the cord
Snowman Load Snowman design to your machine. Hoop 1 layer of cutaway stabilizer. Color stops have been put into the design. These are marked with _ML (marking line) and _SL (sewing line) Use white or a color to match the felt for these. Stitch the first color. Spray the stabilizer with temporary adhesive spray. Place a piece of white felt over the stitched area. Stitch the next 2 colors. Place a piece of red felt over the last stitched area. Stitch Snowman s body, stopping with color before the _SL color stop. Put another piece of white felt over Snowman s body and the the _SL color. This completes Snowman s body. Trim away excess felt leaving 1/4 around the design. Now for Snowman s head. Stitch the first color. This is the _ML colorstop. Place a piece of whit felt to the underside and topside of the hoop to cover the area. Use temporary adhesive spray to hold the felt in place. Stitch the next color. This will hold the white felt. Stitch the next _ML. This places Snowman s hat. Place a piece of black felt over the area and stitch the hat in place. Trim away the excess black felt. Stitch Snowman s hat strip and facial features
Now for Snowman s hands and feet. Stitch the _ML. This will mark for both the hands and feet. Place red felt on both sides of the design (front and back of the hoop) for his hand and black felt for his feet. Stitch the last two colors. Cut Snowman s pieces out of the stabilizer. Turn Snowman s body right side out. Now to assemble! For this you will need a silver craft pipe cleaner, all the Snowman pieces you have just embroidered, a hot glue gun and a piece of cord to make a hanger. I usually use around abut 6 of cord for the hanger. Cut the pipe cleaner in half. The one half we will use for the arms. The other piece of pipe cleaner we will fold in half to make his legs. Place a blob of hot glue in the opening of Snowman s body and put his legs in, folding in the raw edge at the same time. Glue Snowman s head to his body. Now glue the other pipe cleaner to the body. Glue his feet to the pipe cleaner.. Glue Snowman s hands to the ends of the pipe cleaner. Lastly glue on the cord
Rudolph Load Rudolph s body to your machine. Hoop 1 layer of cutaway stabilizer. Color stops have been put into the design. These are marked with _ML (marking line) and _SL (sewing line) Use white or a color to match the felt for these. Stitch the first color. Spray the stabilizer with temporary adhesive spray. Place a piece of brown felt over the stitched area. Stitch the next 2 colors. Place a piece of cream felt over the last stitched area. Stitch Rudolphs s tummy in place. Trim excess felt from the tummy. Put another piece of brown felt over Rudolph s body and the the _SL color. This completes Rudolphs s body. Trim away excess felt leaving 1/4 around the design. Cut Rudolph s body out of the stabilizer and turn right side out. Load Rudolph s head, hands and feet file to your machine. Hoop 1 layer of stabilizer. Now for Snowman s head. Stitch the first color. This is the _ML colorstop. Place a piece of whit felt to the underside of the hoop to cover the area. Use temporary adhesive spray to hold the felt in place. Stitch the next color. This will hold the white felt. Stitch the next _ML. This places Rudolph s antlers. Place a piece of cream felt over the area and stitch the felt in place. Trim away the excess cream felt. Stitch the next _ML. This places Rudolph s face. Place a piece of brown felt and stitch in place. Trim away excess brown felt. Stitch Rudolph s facial features.
