1 2012 SUMMER CRAFT CLASSES General Class Rules Be on time. Have the correct supplies from the supply list (don t substitute without checking with the teacher). Have the basic skills needed for the class (If you are taking a class that specifies that a certain skill level is required, don t expect the teacher to take the time to show you the skills you should already have). If you cannot attend, call the teacher to cancel. Do not expect a refund of a fee paid if you do not cancel within a reasonable time. Many fees are for supplies that have to be ordered prior to the class in order to get a good price. The teacher has already paid for this and expects you to be present. If at all possible, assist the teacher with clean-up. Ladies, watch for Hobby Lobby, Michael s and JoAnn Fabrics Coupons when gathering your supplies. Note: Michaels will take Hobby Lobby and JoAnn Fabric Coupons. Hobby Lobby will let you use a 40% coupon on a 30% off item instead (not both). June 5 (Tues) 10-12:00 Summer Swag Teacher: Sandra Kihn ( ) Fee: $35.00 Supplies: Provided by teacher- flowers, base, wire, glue pot, pliers, cutters, ribbon, fruit. You may wish to add your own personal touch (such as a critter, a home or outdoor colors) particular flower, ribbon that goes with June 5 (Tues) 1-3:00 Stepping Stone Teachers: Helen Keene ( ), Doris Rawlings ( ), Lucille Gibson ( ) Supplies: Provided by teachers- Graphite/tracing paper & patterns will be available at class You ll need to bring: Stepping stone ( Chapman s) acrylic paint (patio/outdoor is best) paint brushes sponge brush black pen(waterproof marker), acrylic sealer, pattern (or use one of ours)
2 June 7, 14, 21 (All Thursdays) 6-8:00 Tapestry Weaving the Inexpensive Way Teacher: Lynne Barnett-Westfall ( ) Class Description- Weave a small tapestry that can be used as a wall hanging, a table mat, or sewn into a purse or phone holder. Members will learn several tapestry techniques as well as other weave structures. It s important to attend the first class. Supplies: 4-12 stretcher bars (Michael s or Hobby Lobby) Tapestry Needle (Michael s or Hobby Lobby) Pencil Ruler Yarn -5 different colors (minimum)- Choose coordinating colors w/4 choices being smooth like knitting worsted; the other(s) may be thicker or textured. You can use leftover yarn from your stash. June 11 (Monday) 9-11:00 Glass Flower Suncatchers Teacher: Bonnie Duffy ( ) Basic Skills Needed: Basic simple artistic painting Supplies: 1 glass plate ( approx. 6 ) 1 bowl- regular edges or ruffled like a candy dish Smaller bowls in 3 sizes- each getting smaller for stacking- ash trays can be used as they come in different shapes and sizes Shot glass- good for top layer (tall & slender like daffodil center) Alcohol wipes or cotton balls & alcohol for cleaning glassware Patio paints- 3-4 colors (specifically used for outdoors) Artist brushes or sponges Clear, waterproof silicone glue DO NOT BUY SUREBONDER 9001 or E THESE ARE NOT WATERPROOF. Small flat-sided bottle or vase with narrow opening, such as Durkee s flavorings or food coloring. This will be glued to back of flower to fit over the stem (dowel rod), must be flat to adhere to back. Long wooden dowel rod that fits into opening of small bottle. IMPORTANT: Take small flat bottle with you to fit right size dowel before day of class Things to Think About As You Gather the above list *How will these stack( like the petals of a flower- each layer closing in a smaller opening)? *Look for dishes in thrift stores- clear glass, colored or not, is best *Some with designs if you like!
