1 SDS TAP Retrofit Install Bartlett 3 Key Installation of TAP Control for Models Originally Built with the Bartlett 3 Key Control This SDS Industries TAP Retrofit kit and installation instructions are intended for use when converting a kiln originally equipped with a Bartlett 3 Key control. If the model you wish to convert is not equipped with a Bartlett 3 Key control then these instructions are not for you. 2 Step 1: Disconnect the kiln or oven from the power supply before proceeding with this procedure. Remove the 4 screws that secure the existing control to the control panel. Step 2: Pull the control away from the enclosure and locate the 4 wires connected to the end of the controller. Do not concern yourself with the color of the wires used on the control connections. There is no industry standard for color codes. Instead, concern yourself with the position each wire is attached to. You will notice 4 wires connected to the one end of the control. Three of these wires are in a row and the fourth is by itself. Step 3: Pull the wire from the control that is located in the middle of the 3 wires in a row, as shown.

3 Step 4: Connect this wire to the center wire (orange) of the TAP Power Input Harness as shown. Step 5: Pull the wire from the control that is located to the right of the 3 wires in a row, as shown. Step 6: Connect this wire to the blue, outside wire of the TAP Power Input Harness as shown.

4 Step 7: Pull the wire from the control that is located to the left of the 3 wires in a row, as shown. Step 8: Connect this wire to the white, outside wire of the TAP Power Input Harness as shown. You have now successfully connected the TAP Power Input Harness to the existing kiln wiring. Step 9: Remove the remaining wire from the end of the control board.

5 Step 10: Connect this wire to TAP Relay Output Harness as shown. Step 11: Locate the thermocouple connections at the other end of the control board. The thermocouple is your temperature sensor. Step 12: Using a phillips screwdriver remove the screws that fasten the thermocouple wires to the control.

6 Step 13: Typically the thermocouple wire ends will have a curl on them. You will want to straighten these out with a pair of pliers. Step 14: Using a pair of cutters, trim off the thermocouple wire so you have a bout 1/4 of exposed wire on each one. Step 15: Secure the TAP enclosure to your existing kiln control panel with the included self-tapping screws. These screws use a 1/4" head. When securing the TAP enclosure position it in such a way as to place the USB access hole at the bottom while also completely covering the existing hole in the kiln control panel.

7 Step 16: Time now to make the connections on your new TAP control. Insert the thermocouple wires into the TAP thermocouple connection block as shown. It is very important to connect the wires as shown. The Yellow wire is located at the bottom and the Red wire is the next one up. If you mix them up the TAP will not work properly. Step 17: Push the TAP Power Input Harness onto the TAP control as shown. Step 18: Push the TAP Relay Output Harness onto the TAP control as shown. It is possible with this connector to accidently miss some pins. Once you put it on double check that all pins are connected.

8 Step 19: Place the TAP control up to the TAP enclosure and secure with the included phillips head screws. When placing the TAP in the enclosure the USB and Ethernet ports should be at the bottom. When placing the TAP control route the control harness wires in such a way as to keep them away from the kiln body. Your new TAP control is now installed.
