1 2017 Public Policy Pre-Session Speaker Bios Cybersecurity Phillip Nemmers, CPA, CISA, CITP Partner, Cybersecurity Services Ernst & Young Phil is a Partner in the Cybersecurity practice of Ernst & Young LLP with over 30 years of experience supporting clients across various sectors including financial services, health care, telecommunications, retail, consumer products, and aerospace and defense. Phil is responsible for overseeing EYs compliance and regulatory-related activities impacted by cybersecurity risk; including the growing impact of cyber risks on external audits, internal audit activities, and third-party attestation activities and EY s outreach activities with various federal regulators across key sectors and the legislative branch. Phil is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Information Systems Auditor, and a Certified Information Technology Professional. Representative Angelo J. Puppolo, Jr. Massachusetts House of Representatives Angelo J. Puppolo, Jr. is a lifelong resident of the City of Springfield. Angelo attended Springfield Public Schools and graduated from the former Classical High School. He is the son of the late former Springfield City Councilor Angelo "Duffy" Puppolo. His mother is Laura Puppolo, and he has a sister Maria. He is married to Isabel (Fernandes) Puppolo, and they have two daughters. Angelo passed the Massachusetts Bar Exam on his first attempt, and is admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In addition, Angelo is admitted to the Connecticut Bar, the Maine Bar, and the Federal Bar for The United States District Court. He is an attorney in private practice, and Justice of the Peace. He was also a successful small business owner, operating a plumbing and heating company his family established in Springfield three generations ago. While working, Angelo put himself through college, earning degrees in Political Science and Business Finance. In addition, Angelo

2 has earned a Juris Doctor degree from Western New England College School of Law where he graduated with honors (CumLaude). Angelo is an avid baseball, football and hockey fan. In his spare time, he enjoys skiing, biking, bird watching and astronomy. Angelo also enjoys collecting nautical antiques. Additionally, Angelo likes to attend the theater, and watch live performances of musicals and operas. He is a big fan of the Phantom of the Opera and the play Wicked, which are two of his all-time favorite performances. Angelo gives much of his time in helping numerous civic and fraternal organizations including the Springfield Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus, UNICO, Sons of Italy, ITAM Vets Hampden County Deputy Sheriff s Association, Melha Shriners and the Meadows Lodge of Masons. He continues to work effectively with business, community, union and government leaders and gets real results. Angelo believes that every neighborhood counts. Aaron Smith Associate Director, Research Pew Research Center Aaron Smith is associate director of research on internet and technology issues at Pew Research Center. Much of his recent research focuses on the impact of technology on workforce and economic issues, Americans attitudes towards the sharing and gig economy, and the potential impact of advancements in workforce automation. He has also conducted studies examining the impact of the digital divide and the growing role of mobile devices in Americans digital access habits, the importance of technology to special populations such as older adults, and the role of digital platforms in connecting Americans to political and civic information. He has a master s degree in public policy from the University of Texas at Austin. Smith has testified before Congress and conducts regular briefings and media interviews on the Center s technology research. Blockchain Representative Michael Zalewski Illinois House of Representatives State Representative Mike J. Zalewski was born and raised on Chicago s southwest side. Growing up, Mike and his family belonged to Saint Symphorosa Parish, where he attended elementary school. Mike went on to graduate from Saint Rita High School and the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. He then completed his education by obtaining a law degree from the John Marshall Law School.

3 Mike launched his legal career as a prosecutor in the Cook County State s Attorney s Office where he handled a variety of offenses including violations of the drug and DUI cases. In 2008, Mike decided to enter public service and was elected State Representative for Illinois 23rd District. During his first term, he participated in a number of historic votes, including the impeachment of Governor Blagojevich, passage of the capital construction program, and sweeping pension reform. Zalewski also sponsored legislation that cracked down on domestic battery and child safety. In 2010, Mike was re-elected, and now serves as Chairman of the Elections and Campaign-Reform Committee in the Illinois House. Mike lives with his wife, Carrie, his daughter Reese, and his son Henry in west suburban Riverside. Ami Beers, CPA Director, Assurance and Advisory Services and Corporate Reporting AICPA As a Director on the Assurance and Advisory Innovation Team at the Association of Certified Professional Accountants, Ami is responsible for the development of assurance and/or advisory services guidance and criteria, thought leadership, and member and market communications to maximize awareness and adoption of CPA assurance and advisory services on business reporting that falls outside the traditional financial statement audit. This includes monitoring trends and developments in market practice and in the technology, regulatory and legislative environments to proactively identify emerging market needs and new service opportunities for members. Ami has supported an AICPA Task Force and a Working Group on XBRL Assurance and Inline XBRL to develop guidance and other resources that will assist CPAs who prepare XBRL documents and those in public practice who are requested to provide assurance and other related services on XBRL documents. Ami supports the XBRL US Data Quality Committee which provides technical implementation support to the XBRL US Center for Data Quality. Ami has chaired and continues to participate in the XBRL US Communications Steering Committee. Prior to joining the AICPA, Ami served in a number of financial management roles including Controller, Treasurer and VP of Finance at both public and private companies. Ami began her accounting career as an auditor at Ernst & Young, LLP. Ami graduated with a BS in Accounting from Syracuse University. Cloud Computing Donny Shimamoto, CPA, CITP, CGMA

Shimamoto, CPA.CITP, CGMA, is the founder and managing director of IntrapriseTechKnowlogies LLC, an advisory-focused CPA firm specializing in organizational development and technology management for small businesses, middle market organizations, and nonprofits. Donny is a recognized thought leader and international educator in the fields of accounting technology, IT risk management, organizational development, and performance management fields; his dedication to helping accountants and organizations strategically innovate while proactively managing their business and technical risk is paramount. He is the recipient of numerous industry awards and is seen at multiple national and state level events educating audiences year after year. Artificial Intelligence Steve Palomino, CPA, CIA, CITP, CGMA Director of Financial Transformation Redwood Software Steve Palomino is a Director of Financial Transformation where he guides businesses in the application of software robotics strategies that increase controls over operations and reporting, resulting in significant effort reduction, efficient transparency and continuous audit capabilities. Steve has more than 16 years of experience working as a general ledger accountant, financial analyst, operation support subject matter expert, internal/external financial reporting manager, and as a business and IT consultant. He has extensive knowledge and experience in databases and programs including Oracle, Hyperion, NCR Teradata, and SAP. He has extensive experience on project scoping, system assessments, data system integration into ERPs, reporting and automation. Steve is a former member, ITECH Committee, former Chair, SBC Global Task Force, prior member of Audit Peer Review Task Force, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Steve obtained his MBA in Finance from Baylor University, undergraduate in Accountancy from Arizona State University. Steve is a Texas CPA, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Information Technology Professional and a Chartered Global Managerial Accountant. Greg Fritsky Director of Financial Transformation Redwood Software Greg is Director of Finance Transformation at Redwood Software and has been providing business process and information technology advisory and assurance services to his clients for more than 25 years. He brings an extensive experience in helping multinational clients

5 understand and transform their complex business processes, organizations and enterprise application solutions. Greg has worked on a number of large business and technology transformation projects with a concentration on transformation strategy, requirements and business case development, project risk mitigation, internal controls, information security and IT risk assessments. He also supports clients in the ERP and systems integrator selection processes and has worked closely with client executives and senior leadership to provide insight and recommendations for large transformation projects. Greg is a thought leader with experience gained as a consultant, Big 4 auditor and financial accountant. Greg is an active and contributing member of the Insurance Accounting and Systems Association and a speaker for the IIA, IASA and other organizations. Furthermore, Greg is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors. Greg obtained his MBA from Rider University and a BS Degree (Accounting) from the Rutgers School of Business.
