Jerrell Walls Community Guest Area Update Captain Sharyn Buck wished everyone a Happy New Year. Superior Quality Service is the motto for Esther Vasquez was introduced as the new Senior Lead Officer for Basic Car 15A3. North Hollywood Area finished the year with a 4.1% reduction in Part 1 crime. Gang related crimes were down. Homicides were the lowest in the valley and shots fired incidents had a 47% reduction. With 229 burglaries from motor vehicles occurring during the month of December, burglaries from motor vehicles and robberies will be a focus in Enhancing youth programs and adding to the Explorer Program will also be a priority. Captain Buck discussed a recent homeless outreach involving the Senior Lead Officers. A location in Officer Catalano s area known as the tunnel was recently addressed resulting in several homeless people being placed in shelters. She also told the members about several holiday giveaways that were very successful. Getting the C.P.A.B more involved in particular goals, priorities and interests was also discussed. Sheri Herman A campaign to advise people about burglary from motor vehicle security, possibly utilizing CBS and the Explorers. Chris Greene Burglary from motor vehicle security outreach at apartment complexes. Andrea Neuman Click It Ticket awareness and handouts and a possible C.P.A.B resource guide. Raymond Walshmidt Handicapped kids Fishing with our heroes. Carey Adams More interaction with North Hollywood Area s High Schools. Alfred Tutungi Involvement with Recreation and Parks youth programs. S.L.O Update Officer Esther Vasquez (15A3) Officer Vasquez stated that she has been with the Los Angeles Police Department for 12 years. Robberies and burglaries from motor vehicles were a concern in her area and she was working on starting new neighborhood watch meetings in her areas. Officer Carol Sawamura (15A21) Officer Sawamura stated that her area ended the year with an increase in property crimes. She also described the Adopt-A-Wall program. Officer Gabrial Ahedo (15A13) Officer Ahedo stated that violent crime and stolen vehicles were down in his area. However, burglaries from motor vehicles were up by 60%. He gave updates on a burglary from a motor vehicle suspect seen in his area, a new homeless encampment in the area of Sherman Way and a robbery arrest that occurred on Lankershim Boulevard. Officer Chris Rowland (15A33) Officer Rowland stated that burglaries from motor vehicles went up approximately 80% in his area during the month December. He is currently focusing on the transient/homeless in the area of Victory and Whitsett and getting the word out about burglary from motor vehicle security. Officer John Catalano (15A39) Officer John Catalano stated that he was focusing on North Hollywood Park and the outreach program that has received aid for 29 people so far. He went over a possible holiday event at the park next year and gave updates on a robbery arrest and vandalism and graffiti incidents occurring along Magnolia Boulevard. Officer Manny Arreygue (15A43) Officer Arreygue stated that overall crime in his area was down 2% from There was a 32% rise in burglaries from motor vehicles however. Officer Robert Benavidez (15A67) Officer Benavidez stated that burglaries from motor vehicles were still occurring along Magnolia Boulevard. He is still working on cleaning up the area around the recyclable center. He is also working on South Weddington Park and gave an update on two burglary from motor vehicle suspects.
4 Public Comment Sofia Mendoza described Clean Green. Jay Goldberg distributed an invitation to the Los Angeles Regional Crimes Against Children Task Force Presentation on Predatory Behavior Against Children on the Internet on January 29. Manny Figueras gave an update on two El Cubano Market closings and information regarding possible support from Erin Brothers and Baskin Robbins for C.P.A.B projects. Cary Adams gave an update on a Community Town Hall meeting regarding development in the area. Lucia Affentranger thanked John Catalano for his work in her area. Brian Sottile gave an update on North Hollywood Park. Sergeant Delgado gave an update on the Homeless Triage team group effort. Alfred Tutungi thanked Officer Catalano for his work in North Hollywood Park. Next C.P.A.B Meeting Thursday, February 17, 2008
5 S.L.O. Update: Officer Gabriel Ahedo (15A13) Officer Ahedo gave updates on two robberies and three stolen vehicles in area 15A3. In area 15A13, there had been three recent thefts of copper piping. Officer Ahedo added that a Safe Senior Seminar was recently held and was very successful. He gave an update on an elderly distraction theft that occurred on Ben Avenue. Officer Carol Sawamura (15A21) Officer Sawamura explained the Adopt-A-Wall mural event involving several North Hollywood Area schools. She asked the group to consider helping in sponsorship. Officer Chris Rowland (15A33) Officer Rowland stated there had been an increase in residential burglaries in his area during times when people were at work Monday through Fridays. He also gave an update on an arrest for residential burglary. Officer Manny Arreygue (15A43) Officer Arreygue gave an update on an indecent exposure suspect involving in two recent incidents near schools. A detail was formed in an effort to apprehend the suspect and there had not been any sightings since. Officer Robert Benavidez (15A67) Officer Benavidez gave an update on efforts to address crime in the area of Magnolia Boulevard and North Hollywood Park. Public Comment Brian Sottile described the success of the Safe Senior Seminar. Approximately 170 people attended the event. Stephen Thorne advised the group that Commissioner Shelly Freeman s term would end on November 20, 2007, for the Police Commission. Police Commissioner Robert Saltzman will commence his term on December 4, Andrea Neuman gave an update on the Crime and Safety Committee for the Studio City Neighborhood Council. Alice Roth from Councilmember Tom LaBonge s Office advised of a NoHo Business Improvement event on November 26, 2007, 9:00 a.m., at 5026 Lankershim Boulevard. Joaquin Macias talked about the Adopt-A-Wall event including its seeds of peace theme and how the wall would be chosen. Packets explaining the event were also handed out.
