2 Call to Order/President s Report Deborah K. Flippo Draper Aden Associates
3 Public Policy Committee Christopher D. Lloyd, McGuireWoods Consulting, LLC, Chair Worked with VEDA s Public Policy Liaison to educate legislators and have a positive impact on issues having an impact on economic development during the 2016 Virginia General Assembly session. Provided all VEDA members with updates - weekly during the Virginia General Assembly and periodically during the year as issues impacting economic development arose. Conducted quarterly meetings with the Secretary of Commerce and Trade, and meetings with Secretaries of Agriculture, Information Technology, and the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development; as well as numerous meetings with other partner groups.
4 VEDA the General Assembly Amanda Jarratt, Franklin Southampton Economic Development Corp., Chair Carrie Chenery, Shenandoah Valley Partnership, Vice-Chair Planned a successful 2016 VEDA the General Assembly. Planned and implemented a VEDA Legislative Reception with 100+ in attendance. Visited with members of the General Assembly, discussing VEDA s public policy priorities.

6 Minutes Annual Membership Meeting March 18, Membership Vote Needed
7 Communications Committee Stephanie Landrum, Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, Chair Megan Lucas, Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance, Vice-Chair Worked closely with the Executive Committee to complete an organizational rebranding. This initiative included a new logo, tagline and updated messaging for VEDA. Provided give-away items at each of VEDA s four meetings in 2016 to highlight the new brand. Supported and coordinated with committees that communicate with VEDA members, elected officials and state liaisons to help best present the value of economic development and VEDA s work.
8 Membership Committee Amanda Glover, Augusta County Economic Development, Chair Joseph Hines, Timmons Group, Vice Chair Conducted New Member Receptions at the Spring and Fall Conferences. Welcomed all new members with an ed new member packet and personal phone calls from committee or board members. Created and produced a new membership brochure. Created the upcoming Cardinal Cards to inform members about upcoming activities, VEDA milestones, and other information.
9 Mentor on Call Program Jay Langston, Virginia Economic Development Partnership, Co-Chair Brian Shull, City of Harrisonburg Economic Development, Co-Chair Created a VEDA Resource Group for VEDA members, sanctioned by the Cardinal Council and focused on the Young Professionals and members new to the profession or to Virginia. Created a mechanism for the Cardinal Council to review candidates for acceptance into the Resource Group, focusing on any member with indepth experience in economic development.
10 Young Professionals Committee Steven Harrison, Virginia Beach Economic Development, Chair Craig Kotarski, Timmons Group, Vice-Chair Hosted networking dinners at the Spring and Fall Conferences for members of the Young Professionals group. Planned Young Professionals meeting in Hampton Roads. Planned a Young Professionals professional development event to be implemented in 2017.

Scheduled, planned and implemented event dates and locations in advance of the program year; enabling VEDA members to hold the dates on their calendars. Worked with meeting committees to have agendas finalized earlier for VEDA members to review the program content and plan accordingly.

Membership Meetings Committee Stephen Versen, Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Co-Chair George Anas, Rockingham County, Co-Chair Planned and implemented 21 st Century Readiness: A Model for Change (Summer Membership Meeting) in Martinsville, Virginia. Planned and implemented Business Talks, Virginia Listens: How Policy Success in Workforce Credentials is Winning Projects for the Commonwealth (Winter Membership Meeting) in Richmond, Virginia.
15 Sponsorship Committee Billy Vaughn, City of Staunton Economic Development, Chair David Denny, Sanford Holshouser Economic Development Consulting, Vice-Chair Assisted in meeting VEDA s 2016 sponsorship needs for Corporate Patrons, Spring Conference sponsors, Fall Conference sponsors, and Membership Meetings sponsors. Began the development of a long-term, sustainable sponsorship program.

17 Cardinal Council Gary McLaren, Henrico County Economic Development Authority, Chair Evaluated Cardinal nominations resulting in naming one new Cardinal for The award is to be presented at the 2016 VEDA Annual Meeting. Conducted site visits and meetings for the Cardinal Community Assistance Program with three communities, resulting in reports/ findings for the communities use in addressing their economic development needs.
18 Community Economic Development Awards (CEDA) Committee David Denny, Sanford Holshouser Economic Development Consulting, Chair David Manley, IDA of Wythe County, Vice-Chair Evaluated several CEDA applications. Selected four recipients of the 2016 CEDA Awards. Recognized CEDA recipients at VEDA s 2016 Spring Conference in Williamsburg, Virginia. Two of the four Virginia CEDA recipients went on to win the SEDC CEDA award for their communities.
19 Golf Tournament Task Force John Loftus, Virginia Economic Development Partnership, Chair Paul Bryan, Froehling and Robinson, Vice-Chair Planned and implemented two successful golf tournaments in conjunction with the Spring and Fall Conferences in 2016.
20 Legislator of the Year Awards Committee Patrick E.W. Barker, CEcD, AICP, Frederick County Economic Development Authority, Chair Reviewed evaluation criteria for LOTY. Presented the 2015 LOTY award at VEDA s Legislative Reception in January 2016 to Delegate Matthew James. Solicited feedback from membership, reviewed candidates, and made a selection to name a 2016 Legislator of the Year, to be presented at the VEDA Winter Membership Meeting.
21 Professional Development Committee Voncile E. Gilbreath, City of Chesapeake Economic Development, Chair Mallory Butler, City of Portsmouth Economic Development, Vice-Chair Conducted two Professional Development Workshops prior to the Spring and Fall Conferences. Evaluated and awarded professional development scholarships in the amount of $7,000.
