1 Society News June/July 2015 Official signing paves the way for new members of the Geomatics Surveying Professional Group At a meeting of the Board of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland on July 29th at 38 Merrion Square, an agreement was formally finalised and signed that will see the transition of membership of the Irish Institution of Surveyors (IIS) to the SCSI. The IIS member organisation, consisting of land surveying professionals, will enter the SCSI under the Geomatics Surveying Professional Group. The Professional Group will potentially increase by over 260 members and the SCSI President Andrew Nugent said that this significant increase in numbers will in no doubt play a pivotal role in promoting the Geomatics Surveying discipline to both policy makers and to school leavers considering the profession as a career. Following several speeches from both the SCSI Board and the former IIS members, wines and canapés were served to those in attendance. The networking opportunity allowed both parties to get to know each other and discuss potential plans and ideas for the future. The SCSI is currently writing to all members of the former IIS organisation outlining their requirements for transitioning to the SCSI. This process will begin immediately. 2 SCSI Young Surveyors 5-A-Side Tag Rugby Tournament The annual SCSI 5-a-side Tag Rugby Tournament, one of the highlights of the Young Members calendar, took place Friday on July 10th, 2015 at the Old Wesley Rugby Club in Donnybrook. The tournament, organised by the SCSI Young Members Committee, was as popular as ever with twelve teams entering from across the property and construction industry and a turnout of over 150 young members on the night CBRE (2 teams), JLL, Search 360, Allsop, DTZ Sherry FitzGerald, Bannon, Xestra Asset Management, WK Nowlan, AECOM, Lisney and Savills. Runners-up JLL put up a great fight on the day but were eventually defeated by Savills for the coveted Allsop SCSI Tag Rugby Cup. Savills took home the trophy for the SCSI tag rugby tournament back in 2014, so it was no surprise to see them triumph once again. Savills. 3 Taking home the Allsop SCSI Plate was Bannon who persevered against the Xestra Asset Management team for the win. Post-competition drinks and food were enjoyed by all after the tournament with a whole roasted pig-on-a-spit on display for all the young members who attended. Live music followed in the clubhouse from the wildly popular trad music band Perfect Friction. The Chair of the Young Members Committee, Colin Daly, gave a short speech and presented the Savills team captain, Tim Moylan with the Cup. 4 SCSI PMFM Residential Seminar: Recurring & Emerging Challenges The Society of Chartered Surveyors Annual Property & Facility Management Residential Seminar took place on Thursday 25th June, at the Herbert Park Hotel in Dublin. The theme of this year s Seminar was Recurring & Emerging Challenges, and presentations addressed a range of issues affecting the day to day practice of a Property Manager such as Fire Safety; MUD Section 3; Lift Management and the Companies Act. The Seminar included a variety of speakers who provided attendees with important information that the managing agent needs to know. Those speakers included Kevin Prendergast; Head of Enforcement at Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement; Michael Slattery; Company Director, Michael Slattery Associates; Garech McGuinness; MD Ennis Lifts, Colm Rushe; Technical Manager Ennis Lifts and Paul Mooney; Director, Strathmore Ivernia. Patricia Byron also spoke and outlined the plans for the future of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland in the coming year.

5 Facilities Management Awards 2015 The Facilities Management Awards 2015 took place on Wednesday, 24th of June at the Ballsbridge Hotel in Dublin. The Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland were patrons of the awards which recognised the exemplary service and achievements of those working in Facilities Management in Ireland. The big winner on the day was Croke Park Stadium, which won both the Green Facilities management Award and the Overall Excellence in Facilities Management Award presented by Vincent Hickey, Chair of the SCSI Property & Facilities Professional Group. Pat Winters, Chartered Surveyor and owner of Winters Property Management took home one of the 16 awards for Project of the Year.
