1 Genealogy Society Of Craighead County, Arkansas This month s meeting will be at the Jonesboro Public Library May 18, 2008 VOLUME NUMBER TWELVE, ISSUE NUMBER FOUR MAY 2008 MEETING HAPPENINGS: On Sunday, April 20, 2008 our meeting was held at the Jonesboro Public Library in the Round Room. The program, Just Like Hank Williams -- It's a Family Tradition was presented by Joyce Whitten. EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING: The Executive Board Meeting for May was held on May 10, Membership Directory 2. Monthly programs 3. The next Executive Board Meeting will be June 14, 2008 MAY MEETING: The May meeting will be held on May 18, 2008 at 2:00 in the GENEALOGY ROOM at the Jonesboro Library. We will explore the Genealogy Book Room and see the new research books that are available, and assist each other with research. (Due to unforeseen circumstances the previously scheduled May program is postponed to a later date.) NEW MEMBER: Barbara L. (Bethel) Morris morris.ty@hotmail.com Bethel, Bethell, Nolley, Needham, Barrow, Hancock, Davis, Brooks Membership Directory: We are compiling a Membership Directory. The directory will be a way to get to know a little about each member. Pictures will also be included in the directory. Judy Clark will be taking pictures again at the meeting on Sunday. We hope everyone will be willing to participate. Please bring your completed directory information form. 1

3 ARKANSAS HISTORY COMMISSION workshops will be held on June 21, 2008, in Little Rock, and on October 25, 2008, in Historic Washington. Watch for details for these and other History Commission events. Arkansas History Commission One Capitol Mall Little Rock, Arkansas AGS Fall Seminar: The Arkansas Genealogy Society Fall Seminar will be held on Friday and Saturday November 7 and 8, Our Society will be attending. Additional information on the Fall Seminar will be in future issues. GREENE COUNTY MUSEUM, INC.: The new Greene County Museum is now open at 130 S. 14 th Street, Paragould, AR. Phone: The hours are FRIDAY 10 AM TO 4 PM, SATURDAY 1 PM TO 4 PM. Large groups by appointment. BEGINNING GENEALOGY: next class will be July 14 & 15, We will meet at the Jonesboro Public Library from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. If you are new to genealogy research, make plans to attend this class in preparation for GENEALOGY NIGHT AT THE LIBRARY. GENEALOGY NIGHT AT THE LIBRARY: Sponsored by the Craighead County Jonesboro Library will be Thursday, July 17, 2008 from 6 PM to Midnight. Mark your calendars for this exciting event! Arkansas Marriage Indexing Project: The Arkansas Genealogical Society is working with FamilySearch to compile a statewide index to Arkansas Marriages. There is currently no statewide marriage index. Working from home volunteers will be able to use digital images of historical documents available over the internet to create searchable indexes. If you wish to volunteer to be an indexer please agsindexing@comcast.net You will be assigned a username, password, and given instructions for the project.
