3 Welcome to e-navigation Underway International 2019 The conference will follow the formula from previous years. Three days full of interesting, stimulating and thought provoking presentations highlighting the development in standardised digital solutions for the maritime domain. The 2019 conference will be the 9th e-navigation Underway International conference. As technical possibilities and solutions have developed over the past nine years, so has the conference. The focus of the first years of the Conference was upon which direction the technical developments and harmonization should take in order to achieve results. Today, much of what was visualized theoretically has actually been achieved in practice: real world solutions are in place and being tested, but still face various obstacles when putting them in place. This years Conference will focus upon how to pave the way for a digital maritime world, concentrating on barriers and benefits when implementing new technologies and e-navigation solutions. The first day of the conference will focus on the barriers and benefits of first movers who are taking e-navigation solutions into operation. What opportunities are there, what are first movers experiencing, what are the lessons learned? For the second day, the focus will shift to how the new solutions affect international standards and regulations what needs to be adjusted by national and international authorities, what has to be in place before shipping can roll out the latest tools? On the last day, the fourth session will revolve around the ever present question of cybersecurity. In a more connected world, the opportunities for malicious involvement from hackers or maybe even terrorists increase. What can we do about it? How do we get prepared?
