1 January 5, 1923 Alphonso Jones was a visitor in Dover, Tuesday. Mrs. Elizabeth Snell has been suffering with rheumatism the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Alex McRae were in Dover last Tuesday. The schools in town commenced Tuesday, after the holiday vacation. The church meeting, which was to have been held January 2d, has been postponed until spring. Mrs. Walter Jones returned this week to the S.A.E. House at Durham, after a two weeks vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McDaniel installed the officers of Gilman Grange, Exeter, last Monday evening. Mrs. Alice Demeritt was a visitor in Rochester, Saturday of last week. Miss Eleanor Lang has returned from visiting her aunt, Mrs. Frank Morrison. Edward Coughlin has returned from Boston, where he spent Christmas. Miss Ethel Jordan, who has been spending her Christmas vacation in Lee, returned to Danvers, Mass., Tuesday. George Revere and family spent Christmas with their sister, Mrs. Dudley Monroe, in Haverhill. The young people of Lee and Nottingham enjoyed a sliding party last Saturday evening. Brad. Caswell is confined to his home by illness. Many of our Lee young people attended the New Year s dance at Newmarket, Monday evening. Miss Margaret Lang returned to Dover, Monday.

2 January 19, 1923 Arthur J. Thompson was drawn on the grand jury and Charles Woodman on the petit jury for the February term of court to be held in Dover. Mr. and Mrs. Gorham Sawyer started for Florida last week to spend the remainder of the winter. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Davis of Durham accompanied them. Rev. Lewis Dareynad Evans, who died at his home in Camden, Maine, Dec. 13, 1922, was born April 20, 1848, at Pendaven, a suburb of Merthyr Tydvil, Wales. He was one of a family of thirteen and worked in a coal mine until 1868, when he came to this country. He knew little of the English language and worked for two years in the mines in Pennsylvania. At the end of two years he was able to attend Hudson College (now Western Reserve University) for two years, then started upon his theological course at Bangor Theological Seminary, graduating in the class of He was called to Bristol, Maine, and was ordained there in June, Six year later he came to Lee and was there three years, where he was much loved. A very bright speaker, and people came from surrounding towns to hear him, and the little church was filled every Sunday. But he had a call to Boothbay, Maine, and went there in In 1889 he was called to Camden, Maine. At the end of 25 years (the longest pastorate in the history of that church) he resigned his pastorate, and was at once elected pastor emeritus, which he filled until his death, a period of eight years. He married, Jan. 10, 1878, Miss Hester Annette Huston of Damariscotta, Maine, who survives him. Their children were Henry, now of the Bates Manufacturing Co., Lewiston; Abbie, at home; Albion, now deceased; these last two were born in Lee, and Frank, of the DuPont Co., located at Washburn, Wis. The people of Lee sympathize with the bereaved family of our former pastor.

3 January 23, 1923 The children of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. Thompson, who have been having chicken-pox, are able to be out again. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McDaniel were the installing officers at a joint installation of Granges held in Derry last Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Gorham Sawyer have reached their destination in Florida, and when last heard from Mrs. Sawyer was suffering from a severe cold. George Revere returned to Braintree, Mass., Monday. Mrs. Walter Plumer and sons are on the sick list. Eleanor Lang fell, while visiting her aunt in Durham, injuring her back quite seriously. Stanley Plumer is able to be out, after an attack of the grippe. The body of Mrs. Sarah (Langley) Tuttle, widow of Charles H. Tuttle, who passed away at Roxbury, Mass., was brought here for burial recently in the family lot near Herbert Hill s residence.

4 February 9, 1923 Mrs. E.U. Bloom spent a day with Mrs. Bradbury Caswell last week. Mrs. Arthur Wiggin had business in Nottingham recently. Miss Gladys Demeritt spent the week-end in Rochester with friends. Miss Irene Carpenter was a week-end visitor at The Ranche. There was an accident at Walker s mill on the Benjamin Lang lot recently, the sawyer being severely burned. Raymond Jordan is working for Miss Burleigh, while attending high school in Epping. Mrs. Bertha Plumer is recovering, after being quite ill with a severe cold. Goodrich has bought the wood on the Walter Plumer lot of L.P. Ladd. There will be a whist party and social at Grange Hall, Lee Hill, on Wednesday evening, Feb. 14, for the benefit of Jeremiah Smith Grange. Mrs. Harry Parker returned to her home in Nottingham Saturday. She has been taking care of her father, Henry Small, who has been very ill. Miss Leola C. Noble was a Newmarket visitor one day recently. J. Grace Thurston and Oscar Paul drove to Dover recently. Mr. and Mrs. William Small of Fremont visited his father Tuesday. Grace Thurston visited Mrs. Susan Littlefield in Epping Monday. Miss Elizabeth McRae has been at home with a severe cold the past few days. Mrs. Robert Thompson was a week-end guest of Mrs. Granville Thompson in Dover. Many of the farmers in this vicinity have been putting in their ice this week. Mr. and Mrs. Darius Mariotti are receiving congratulations on the birth of a son. Donald Thompson was recently operated on for adenoids. John C. Bartlett has been quite ill for the past few weeks. Benton Haley, a former resident of this town, now living in Barrington, has been very ill at his home. Miss Helen Layne was at home from Penacook, over Sunday. Mrs. Belle Garrity has been suffering with a severe cold this week. Nehemiah Snell, who has been confined to the house for sometime, is able to be out again. Jeremiah Smith Grange held its installation of officers Wednesday evening, Jan. 31. Arthur W. McDaniel was the installing officer, assisted by George A. Bennett, Past Master of Lamprey River Grange of Newmarket. Mrs. Elizabeth Wiggin, a former resident of this town, passed away recently at the home of her son in Lynn, Mass.

5 February 16, 1923 Arthur W. McDaniel was recently elected Lecturer of Eastern New Hampshire Pomona Grange. Nehemiah Snell went to York, Me., last Monday, on business, returning Tuesday. Mrs. Emma Corson is visiting relatives in Dover for a few days. Mrs. Chester Tebbetts spent a few days with her sister in Dover last week. Clarence Fernald and Charles Johnson cut ice for Chester Ellison this week. The whist party and social which was to have been held last Wednesday evening, Feb. 14, for the benefit of Jeremiah Smith Grange, has been postponed to Saturday evening, February 24. On account of weather conditions, the regular meeting of Jeremiah Smith Grange was postponed until Tuesday evening, Feb. 20. Mrs. Lulu Walker is recovering from an attack of the grip. Fred P. Comings was unable to go to Concord last week on account of a severe cold.

6 March 2, 1923 The wife of William Ryan passed away suddenly Sunday. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Lee Hill, and interment was in Lee Hill cemetery. Justin Morrison and family of Epping have moved in to the Kirkwood place. Mrs. B.W. Davis of Epping and William Small of Fremont were recent callers are Henry Small s. Mrs. Mary Currier s house was broken into recently, during her absence on a visit to her grandson s in Epping, and a lot of canned goods and groceries stolen, Let us hope the thief or thieves will get their just dues. This is not the first time that she has had things stolen. Mrs. Wesley Harvey attended the funeral of her grandmother, Mrs. Whittemore, in Epping, Wednesday, Feb. 21. Miss Ethel Jordan of Danvers, Mass., is home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Jordan, for a week s vacation. Mrs. Alice Demeritt, Mrs. Marguerite Davis and Mrs. Sadie Lang were Rochester visitors, Friday. L.P. Ladd has hired the Kirkwood place for his mill crew, while working on Plummer s lot. Mrs. Lewis Jordan was an Epping visitor last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Caswell visited Mr. and Mrs. E.U. Bloom, Sunday. Mrs. John Piper is home, after being away caring for her daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Plumer were Dover visitors last Friday. Mr. Kenney of Derry was a visitor in town recently. Miss Leola C. Noble is substituting in the fourth grade in Newmarket this week. Mrs. Willys Tuttle and daughter were Dover visitors last week. Mr. Clark and family are to move to Newmarket. Wesley Harvey has installed a radio. Oscar Paul has a white collie puppy. It came from the Shomont kennels, Iowa. Last Friday Grace Thurston s team was struck by a team loaded with wood and without a driver. No one was hurt, but the sleigh was well broken up. Drivers should attend to their teams. Miss Lucia Plumer, teaching in Portsmouth, is at home because coal cannot be obtained to heat the school rooms.

John Harvey and son are cutting ice on the Bartlett pond for several of the farmers. Mrs. Walter Jones was a visitor in town last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Caldwell went to Boston last week to reside. Mr. Caldwell has accepted a position on the railroad. There will be a whist party and social held at the hall next Saturday evening, March 3, for the benefit of the Grange. The regular meeting of Jeremiah Smith Grange was held last Tuesday evening. The articles in the town warrant were discussed. At the next meeting Pomona s Night will be observed. Mr. and Mrs. Miner Fall of Dover visited William Caldwell and family last Sunday. Mrs. Lucy (Moore) Thompson, widow of the late Jonathan Thompson of Lee, passed away last Monday afternoon with bronchial pneumonia, aged 94 years and 10 months. Mrs. Thompson was a member of the Lee Congregational church and was highly esteemed by her many friends and neighbors. She is survived by four children: a daughter, Elizabeth Thompson, of Lee; and three sons, Edward, of Andover, Mass., William and Arthur, both of Lee; also six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

8 March 9, 1923 Harry F. Smith spent Tuesday in Boston. Born, March 6, to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hobbs, a daughter. Donald Learnard and Miss Wood of Somerville spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Peach. Mr. Garvin and son, Arthur Garvin, and Mr. and Mrs. Dullea of Revere, Mass., have been spending ten days at their camp. Mr. Dullea last year purchased the farm known as the John Wiggin place. IN MEMORY OF LUCY THOMPSON On learning of her upward flight, the attributes of Little Nell, by Dickens, possessed me. Dear, sweet, noble, gentle, patient, little Aunt Lucy was dead. Sense of her tiny stature gave way to the nobility of mind and aristocracy of soul, which always possessed her and obtained from the past to the present that sustaining light that has never failed or grown dim. Heaven bless her memory and sustain her hear ones in the ancestral home, wherein I once had the pleasure of dwelling, my first teaching days in the old Lee Hill schoolhouse, in the summer of CARD OF THANKS. There will be a meeting of Jeremiah Smith Grange next Tuesday evening, March 20. A successful whist and box party was held last Saturday evening for the benefit of the Grange. A good time was enjoyed by all, and the sum of $10.85 was realized from the affair. A whist party will be held next Saturday evening. The annual town meeting was held Tuesday and the following officers were elected: Town Clerk, Fred P. Comings, Selectman for Three Years, Benjamin Lang, Tax Collector, Robert H. Thompson; Treasurer, Mark L. Mills; Highway Agents, Charles E.N. Stackpole (North Side), Charles H. Johnson (Center), and William A. Carpenter (South Side). It was voted to raise the sum of $2000 to defray town charges. The vote on the amendment was 28 yes and 40 no.

9 March 23, 1923 Chester Tebbeetts was a visitor in Rochester this week. Florence Caldwell is visiting her sister in Malden, Mass., this week. There will be a whist party at Grange hall, Saturday evening. Arthur J. Thompson and family are sick with the flu. School meeting was held Tuesday afternoon. Frank I. Caldwell was elected moderator; Robert H. Thompson, clerk; Mark L. Mills, treasurer, Albert B. Dudley, member of school board for three years; James B.C. Walker and G.B. Thompson, auditors. Voted for support of schools, $4850. March 30, 1923 The schools in town have closed for the spring vacation. Charles G. Dame of this town in very ill with the grippe at his home in Dover. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. Thompson and family are slowly recovering from the flu. Miss Helen Layne, who teaches in Penacook, is at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Benton E. Layne, for a twoweeks vacation. Very few people of Lee have escaped the prevailing epidemic this winter. Alice Dudley, a student at the State College in Durham, is passing the spring vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George A. Dudley. District Deputy Harry Bickford of East Rochester will inspect Jeremiah Smith Grange, April 10. Mrs. Maude Page of Exeter spent the week-end with her father, Alphonso Jones. Mr. and Mrs. Ira B. Hill, who have been quite ill with the grippe, are improving. George Young has returned to his home from a visit of two weeks with his son at Ayer, Mass. Alphonso Jones has recovered from an attack of the grippe. Seth W. Sherburne, who has been ill at his home for several days, is able to be out again. David B. Bartlett lost a valuable horse recently. Harvey Whitehouse, Jr., of Middleton, N.H., has recently moved to Lee, to live with his father, Harvey Whitehouse. There will be a whist party and dance at Grange hall, Saturday evening, under the auspices of Jeremiah Smith Grange. Mrs. Lida Jones is at home for a two-weeks vacation. Loren Fernald and his son, Carl Fernald, and family are confined to their home with the grippe.

10 April 6, 1923 Mrs. Robert H. Thompson spent the week-end in Dover. Mrs. Asenath Cook has been visiting relatives in Dover the past week. Mr. and Mrs. James Rollins are guests of Mr. and Mrs. David Bartlett. A special meeting of Jeremiah Smith Grange was held last Tuesday evening. The first and second degrees were rehearsed. Mrs. Hazel Dudley and Mrs. Helen Gray were visitors in Dover last Saturday. Mrs. Walter Jones and son returned to Durham last Wednesday, after a vacation of two weeks. April 13, 1923 Mrs. Walter Plumer is recovering from a severe attack of bronchitis. Vivian Bloom is working at Benjamin Lang s. Charles Piper and family are out again, after being confined to the house with the flu. Miss Bessie Thompson is visiting in Dover. Choppers have commenced work on the William Thompson lot. Gladys Demeritt, who has been working for Mrs. Perry Harvey, is at home ill. Miss Melissa Richer has returned to her school work, after spending her vacation at her home in Maine. April 20, 1923 Ernest Wilson has purchased a new auto. William Carpenter, the South Side highway agent, has commenced his spring work on the highways in his district. Arthur Wiggin is moving from the Clarence Wiggin farm to The Lodge. Mrs. Ernest Wilson is recovering from a severe attack of the grippe. Edwin Plumer and family of Northwood visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Plumer, recently. Plummer Ladd s mill is sawing on the Walter Plumer lot. Mr. and Mrs. John Piper visited their daughter, Mrs. Robinson, at Northwood last Sunday. Mrs. William Carpenter is teaching in Newmarket. Charles Allen s family are on the sick list. Mr. and Mrs. James Lee were visitors in town last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McDaniel attended the meeting of Eastern New Hampshire Pomona Grange at Farmington last Thursday.

Layne is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Harry Roberts, at Dover. Nehemiah Snell was at home from York, Me., over Sunday. Mrs. Belle Garrity purchased a new horse last week. Mrs. George McDaniel and daughters are visiting her parents in Somerville, Mass. Mr. and Mrs. Miner Fall are spending a few weeks with Mr. and Mrs. W.I. Caldwell. There will be a whist party at Grange hall Saturday evening, for the benefit of the Grange, The public are invited. Services at the church were resumed last Sunday morning. None have been held through the winter, on account of bad weather. James Wiggin is quite ill at his home. Jeremiah Smith Grange held their inspection on Tuesday evening, April 10. Worthy Deputy Harry L. Bickford of East Rochester was present and the second degree was exemplified. Visitors were present from Banner Grange of East Rochester, Rockingham Grange of Epping and Pineconia Grange of Concord. Refreshments were served and interesting remarks made by the visiting patrons. Miss Leona M. Page, daughter of Mrs. Maude Page, was married last Monday evening, April 16, at her home on Elm street, Exeter, N.H., to Mr. John V. Russell, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Russell of Springfield, Mass. They were attended by the bride s sister, Marion P. Page, and the groom s brother, Chester B. Russell, of the University of Vermont. The bride wore a gown of ivory crepe and Chantilly lace, and her hand-embroidered veil was caught with orange blossoms. She carried a shower bouquet of bride s roses and valley lilies. The music was furnished by Miss N. Althea Nason, pianist, assisted by Mrs. Purington, soloist, of Ipswich, Mass. The bride came to Exeter two years ago from Worcester, Mass., at the time her sister Marion became associated with the Rockingham Country Farm Bureau. She is a granddaughter of Alphonso Jones of Lee. The groom is a graduate of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute, class of He is a member of Tau Beta Pi and Delta Tau fraternities and is now connected with the Fiberloid Corporation of Indian Orchard, Mass. After the wedding trip the couple will make their home in Springfield, Mass.

12 April 27, 1923 Charles Stackpole spent last week with his niece, Mrs. Clara Frost, in Eliot, Me. Sumner Layne was operated on for appendicitis at the Cottage Hospital, Exeter, last Monday morning. Miss Bernice McKay is visiting relatives in Haverhill, Mass. Miss Bertha Tootill was a visitor in Dover last Friday. Flagg Hill and son of Lawrence, Mass., were in town over Sunday. May 4, 1923 There was no school at North Lee, Monday and Tuesday, on account of the illness of Miss Grant, the teacher. Nehemiah Snell was very badly burned last Tuesday while repairing the steam boiler at his mill in York, Maine. Sumner Layne is getting along nicely after his operation for appendicitis a week ago. May 11, 1923 Mr. and Mrs. Gorham Sawyer have returned after spending the winter in Florida. Mr. Sawyer has been in poor health all winter. Mrs. George Chesley is improving after her recent illness. Mr. and Mrs. John Stimpson were visitors at Seth W. Sherburne s over the week-end. It is reported that the brick plant at Hoitt s Crossing is soon to start up, employing one hundred men. Robert Thompson has recently purchased a Reo car. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McDaniel installed the officers of Carroll County Pomona Grange at North Conway, last Wednesday. Lyford Wiggin and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Cate and daughter have returned to the farm. All persons interested in the proposition of the Lee Congregational Church uniting with New Hampshire College in employing a community pastor are requested to attend the meeting at the Lee church next Sunday at 11 o clock a.m. to discuss the plan. If stormy, the subject will be discussed the next Sunday.

13 May 18, 1923 In the passing of Abbie H. Chesley the town of Lee, and more especially the church, has lost one of its most loyal workers. Mrs. Chesley came to Lee on her marriage to George E. Chesley about forty-six years ago, and soon became known to be one of the most energetic supporters of anything that looked to the upbuilding of our community. Mrs. Chesley s death occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Alfred C. Durgin, Thursday, May 10, her age being 79 years. Funeral services were held at her own home, Monday, May 14, at 2 p.m., Rev. G.E. Kinney of Auburn, Me., a former pastor at Lee, conducting the service. Three solos were rendered by Elmer B. Chesley of Malden, Mass., a grand-nephew of the deceased, and four grandnephews served as bearers. There was a beautiful floral tribute, and the service was largely attended. Burial was in the family lot in Lee. Besides an aged husband, George E. Chesley, the survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Alfred C. Durgin of Lee and Mrs. Frank W. Hatch of Dover, one sister, Mrs. Mary G. Robinson of Merrimac, Mass., three grandchildren, Caverly, Evangeline and Chesley Durgin, all of Lee, also several nephews and nieces. May 25, 1923 Beginning Tuesday, May 29, and until further notice, all matinees at the Star Theatre, Newmarket, will start at 2 o clock. Walter W. Jones has purchased a Ford roadster. Mrs. Katharine Jones went to the hospital this week to have her tonsils and adenoids removed. Mr. and Mrs. Benton Layne were visitors in Dover last Tuesday. Lyford Wiggin, who has been quite sick with bronchitis, is improving. Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey Fall of Dover were visitors at William Caldwell s last Sunday. Mrs. Charles Philbrick of Somerville, Mass., was the guest of her sister, Mrs. David B. Bartlett, over the week-end. Mrs. Maude Page will spend the summer with her father, Alphonso Jones.

14 June 8, 1923 Nehemiah Snell has purchased a new car. Mr. and Mrs. George McDaniel and family spent Memorial Day with Mrs. McDaniel s parents in Somerville, Mass. Mr. McDaniel has recently purchased a new Studebaker. Mrs. Martha Buzzell of Barrington is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Helen McRae. Chester Ellison has a new Studebaker car. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thompson visited relatives in Boston and Amherst on Memorial Day. Miss Grace Thurston, Miss Louise Allen and Oscar Paul were visitors in Dover last Monday. Benjamin Lang has purchased a new Ford car. The state road between Lee Hill and Epping is now under construction, under the supervision of Benjamin Lang. Will Ryan recently has a narrow escape from backing into Little River, near Granville Thompson s. Mrs. James Walker was a visitor in Dover this week. J. Parle of Dover is sawing the lumber on the Clarence Fernald lot. Charles Dame has recently purchased a new horse. Mrs. Blanche Newman and family of Medford, Mass., are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Caldwell.

15 June 8, 1923 JOHN FRED BESSOM John Fred Bessom, aged 73, former member of the Lynn city government, and brother of the late Hon, Eugene A. Bessom, former mayor, died suddenly at his farm at Lee, N.H., May 26, following an attack of heart trouble. Mr. Bessom was out in his strawberry bed when he was stricken and died before medical attendance could be secured. He suffered a fall about a year ago and as a result suffered temporary paralysis and failing health. Mr. Bessom was the son of John C. Bessom, for whom Bessom street, in East Lynn is named. He was born on Essex street about where the present Ingalls school stands. He received his education in the Lynn schools, graduating from the Lynn High school. After graduation Mr. Bessom became a carpenter and builder and the Lynn English High school, McGloin square, was built under his supervision. He also built numerous other blocks and swellings, including the Bessom block. Union and Pinkham streets, and Federal building at Rumford Falls, Me. Mr. Bessom served as a member of the common council in He remained in Lynn until 1911, when he removed to his farm at Lee. He was formerly a member of the Odd Fellows, but withdrew when he left Lynn. He leaves a wife, Georgia, two daughters, Mrs. Muriel Lawrence and Mrs. Helen Lassell, also five grandchildren, all of Lee, N.H., and a brother, Charles E. Bessom of this city. Lynn Item.

16 June 15, 1923 Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Small, Mr. H. Lavoie and Mr. A. St. John of Fremont were guests of Mr. and Mrs. H.F. Small Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Woodbury C. Cammett and daughter, Elsie, of Amesbury, Mass., and Miss Belle Tuttle of Swampscott, Mass., are stopping at their summer residence here. Mr. and Mrs. Peach, Oscar Paul, and Grace Thurston went by auto to Andover, Monday. Clinton Roper, who has been working for William Carpenter, has gone home. Walter Plumer and family were Dover visitors Monday evening. Mr. Hobbs of Portsmouth was in town Monday, calling on friends. Norma Harvey of Haverhill, Mass., is spending a vacation at her home. Mrs. Charles Allen is visiting her son, Fred, of Epping. Mr. Kenney of Derry was in town Sunday. Paul Cilley of Portland spent the week-end at his home in Wadley s Falls. Oscar Paul and Grace Thurston spent Sunday in Dover with Charles W. Thompson. Walter Thurston and family of Exeter were recent visitors at the J.G. Thurston farm. Mrs. Henry Small had a slight shock Saturday morning. Her daughter, Mrs. Harry Parker, is with her. Miss Leola C. Noble, who has been sick since February, is able to ride out in her car. Clyde McKay has recently purchased a new Overland car. Miss Lida Brewitt is away for a few weeks vacation. Children s night was observed by Jeremiah Smith Grange last Thursday evening. A very interesting program was given and ice cream and cake were served. Mrs. Walter Jones returned to the farm this week for the summer.

17 June 22, 1923 Mr. and Mrs. Harry Davis and family of Newton, Mass., spent the week-end with Charles Stackpole. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Caverno and family of Somerville, Mass., were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Caverno on the 17th. Mr. and Mrs. Homer James of Somerville, Mass., were in town over the holidays. Fred Lear of Boston is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Earl Cate this week. David Bartlett has recently purchased a Ford truck. The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George McDaniel fell recently, breaking her collar bone. Recent visitors at Walter Plumer s were: Mr. and Mrs. O.H. Kenney and son of Derry, Mr. and Mrs. J. Manley of Rochester and Mrs. Ada Fitch of Lyndeboro. George Smith was a week-end guest of Jay Demeritt and family. The South Side school closed the 8th, and Miss Melissa Ricker, the teacher, has returned to her home in Portland, Me. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Mayo, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Cilley and family, were recent Portland, Me., visitors. Mr. and Mrs. Jack McGerry of Lynn, Mass., spent the holiday at their summer home on Birch Hill. Edwin H. Plumer of Northwood spent a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Plumer. Visitors at the Ranch are Mrs. J.T. Bartlett, Miss Pauline Bartlett and Miss McLaughlin of Boston and Master Bartlett Walker of Dover.

18 June 29, 1923 Late Saturday afternoon at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Dover, Miss Marion Pearl Page, daughter of Mrs. Maude Jones Page and granddaughter of Alphonso Jones of Lee, was united in marriage to Mr. Frank Kimball of Kensington, N.H. Rev. David Pearson, rector of the church, performed the ceremony. The bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. John V. Russell of Springfield, Mass., and Mr. John V. Russell acted as best man. The wedding march was played by Miss Althea Nason of Ipswich, Mass. The bride, formerly of Worcester, Mass., has for the past two years been connected with the Rockingham County Farm Bureau and is very popular throughout the community. Guests were present from Boston, Brockton, Springfield and Haverhill, Mass., and Exeter, N.H. After a wedding trip through the Berkshires, Mr. and Mrs. Kimball will reside in Kensington, N.H., where Mr. Kimball owns a large dairy farm. James Lee of Dover has sold his farm. There will be an auction held at the farm, Saturday, June 30th. The Kimball place has been sold to a party from Boston. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McDaniel spent last Tuesday with State Master Sawyer and wife at their home in Atkinson. Miss Helen Layne is at home for the summer. Albert Caverno and family were in town over Sunday. Miss Gertrude McKay was operated on for appendicitis at the Exeter hospital last Friday. She is getting along as well as could be expected.
