1 January 6, 1922 Grover Revere spent Christmas at home. Mr. and Mrs. Styles did their Christmas shopping in Newmarket Friday. Mrs. Dodd has returned to her home in Greenland for the holidays. Margaret Lang is at home. Mr. and Mrs. E.U. Bloom visited Newmarket Saturday evening. Arthur Wiggin spent Christmas at home. Russel Shaw is spending the holidays with his parents in Manchester. Miss Bessie Thompson visited her mother, Mrs. Nellie Thompson, from Saturday till Monday. Mr. Revere and family took dinner with his sister, Mrs. Carmichel, Monday. Lucia Plumer is spending the holidays with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Styles and Miss Todd attended the grange at Epping Thursday evening. Mrs. Helen Wiggin entertained Mr. and Mrs. Robinson of Epping and Miss Bessie Thompson of Boston Sunday. Mrs. Charles Piper and son are spending the holidays in Haverhill, Mass. Charles Revere is working for Benjamin Lang. Ira B. Hill was a visitor in Manchester and Boston this week. Harry O Brien of Charlestown, Mass., spent New Year s with Lyford M. Wiggin. A dance was held at the town hall last Saturday evening and was well patronized. There will be another one in two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Monroe spent the week-end with Mrs. Monroe s parents in Northwood. Mrs. Harry Monroe has been ill with tonsillitis the past week. Norman Snell is cutting his ice this week. David Bartlett visited his parents in Manchester this week. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McDaniel are attending the grange installations at Greenville and Milford, N.H., this week, where Mr. McDaniel installs. The annual meeting of the Lee Congregational church was held Tuesday afternoon at the vestry. The following officers were elected, Chairman, Arthur J. Thompson, Clerk, Nellie J. Durgin, Treasurer, Arthur W. McDaniel, Church Committee, Mrs. Frank Randall, Mrs. George Chesley, Mrs. William Caldwell, Wardens, Alfred Durgin, Ira B. Hill, William Thompson, Arthur J. Thompson was re-elected deacon.

2 January 13, 1922 The members of Jeremiah Smith Grange who attended the installation of Piscassic Grange at Newfields last Monday evening were, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McDaniel, who installed the officers, Arthur J. Thompson, Grover Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Tebbets, Mr. and Mrs. Frank I. Caldwell and Ernest Wardwell. The Lee Hill Y.M.C.A. club plans to hold meetings on the second and fourth Fridays of each month. Plans are being made for a successful season, with an interesting programme. Mrs. Elizabeth Snell has the sympathy of her many friends in the accident she met with last Friday, in the breaking of her ankle. It will be a long time before she will be able to be about again. Her sister, Mrs. Ann Randall, of Boston, is with her. Mr. Gorham Sawyer started this week for Florida, where he will spend the remainder of the winter. Charles Stackpole went to Newton, Mass., this week to stay until spring. Harold Wiggin lost one of his horses this week. It was kicked by another horse, breaking its leg. He was obliged to shoot it. Mrs. Frank Randall is visiting her sister, Mrs. Annie Kimball, in Dover, this week. Mrs. Arlin of Barrington is spending a few weeks with Mrs. Frank Young. John Fernald recently cut his foot quite badly with an ax. He is able to be out now. Lewis Demeritt is drawn as grand juror and Charles Piper as petit juror, for the February term of court, to be held in Dover. Benton F. Layne has recently purchased a Velie car. Mrs. John Piper spent Friday with her sister, Mrs. Allen, of Nottingham. Evangeline Durgin gave a sledding party Friday evening. Mrs. Vella Kirkwood went to Newmarket Saturday. Lee farmers are busy putting in their ice. Mary Allen, Alice Demeritt, Bertha Plumer and Gladys Demeritt attended the dance at Nottingham Saturday evening. Charles Revere has business in Newmarket Saturday morning. Bertha Plumer s horse has been quite sick. W. Plumer s team horses are laid up owing to lameness.

3 January 20, 1922 Charles Langley was a visitor at Lyford M. Wiggin s last Monday. Farmers on the North Side are busy getting in their ice this week. Little Alice Ricker has been quite ill, threatened with pneumonia, at the home of Frank Young. Jeremiah Smith Grange will hold a public installation of officers, Saturday evening, Jan. 28, at 8 o clock. Past District Deputy Harold Hayes will be the installing officer. Clayton Bloom is at the Exeter hospital, slowly recovering from an operation for appendicitis. Miss Todd spent the week-end with Mrs. William Lee. Quite a number from Lee attended the Pomona Grange at Newmarket last Wednesday. George Revere, who has been working in Braintree, Mass., is at home. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Harvey entertained friends one evening last week. Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Monroe spent the week-end at the home of Mrs. Monroe s father. January 27, 1922 Sidney McKay has been suffering from a severe cold the past two weeks. Mrs. Granville Thompson has been visiting Mrs. Abbie Bennett of Newmarket for a week. Mrs. Belle Garrity, who has been ill the past week, is able to be out again. An entertainment under the auspices of Lee Y.M.C.A. will be held at Grange Hall, Friday evening, Jan. 27th. F.W. Hatch of Dover was a visitor in town last Sunday. Mrs. Helen McRae has been unable to keep school this week, on account of sore eyes. George Fox went to New York on business last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McDaniel attended the Grange installation at Ashland, N.H., last Monday evening, where Mr. McDaniel installed the officers. Ernest Wardwell spent the past week in Boston and Waltham, Mass. Rev. W.L. Muttart, a former pastor of the church here, has resigned from the pastorate of the Congregational church at West Concord, where he has been for the past nine years, to accept a call from the Congregational church at Preston, Conn.

4 February 3, 1922 George Stimson had a narrow escape from being badly injured by a falling tree last week. He suffered from a cut on the head and a bruise on the shoulder. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Dudley were visitors in Dover last Saturday. Mrs. Elizabeth Snell, who recently broke her ankle, is able to sit up. Miss Gertrude McKay has been at home suffering with tonsillitis this week. Married, Jan. 19th, at St. John s parsonage, Dover, by Rev. Leon Morse, Harold Sewall Moulton and Stella Irene Ellison. Jeremiah Smith Grange held its installation of officers last Saturday evening. Past Deputy Harold Hayes installed, assisted by Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McDaniel. Visitors were present from Nottingham, Newfields, Durham and Dover. A harvest supper was served and a good time enjoyed by all. The friends of Mr. and Mrs. Bloom rejoice with them in the return of their son, Clayton, from the Exeter hospital. Mary Allen and Gladys Demeritt visited Newmarket Friday. Ruth Revere went to Epping Thursday. Ralph Haze was called away on business Friday. Mrs. Arthur Wiggin and sons visited Newmarket recently. The Misses Alice and Annie Revere gave a birthday party Tuesday afternoon. William Plumer had an auction at Newmarket Saturday.

5 February 10, 1922 One of the children of Albert B. Dudley suffered from a fall on the ice last Saturday, severely injuring its head. Miss Bernice McKay returned to her work in Dover this week, after a two-weeks illness. Mrs. Katherine Jones was a visitor in town last week. Mrs. Ira B. Hill has been dangerously sick with the flu this week. Mr. Hill is just able to be up after an attack. John Fernald has been visiting his sister, Mrs. Edna Pierce of Barrington, for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. John Stimpson of Medford, Mass., have moved into the bungalow at Hoitt s Crossing. Alfred C. Durgin and family have been suffering from severe colds. Eastern New Hampshire Pomona Grange will meet with Dover Grange, Thursday, Feb. 16. Charles Johnson and Clarence Fernald were visitors in Boston last week. Arthur Thompson is able to be out again, after an attack of the flu. His daughter, Lucille, has recovered from pneumonia. The whist party and dance, held in the town hall, Wednesday evening of last week, was a very successful affair. Whist was played and prizes awarded, after which dancing was enjoyed. Ice cream and cake were served. Word has been received here that Miss Nellie Wiggin, a former resident of this town, was married last week to Mr. Atherton. She has the best wishes of all her friends. Walter H. Forrest of Dover is the new deputy over Jeremiah Smith Grange this year. Many South Lee people are ill this week with colds. Among them are Mrs. Willis Tuttle and daughter, Louise, Miss Lizzie Thompson and E.U. Bloom. Several of the young people of So. Lee attended the whist party given in the town hall by Mrs. Charles Johnson and Mrs. Ernest Menter. Mrs. John Perkins and Mrs. Anna Lee visited Newmarket Wednesday. Edward Coughlin visited at Wadley s Falls Sunday. Gladys Demeritt gave a sledding party Friday evening, which was largely attended. Mr. Arthur Thompson and daughter, Lucille, have been quite sick and are still confined to the house. Herman and Elmer Keniston have finished chopping for Frank Fernald.

6 February 17, 1922 Jeremiah Smith Grange will have their inspection at the next regular meeting, Feb. 28. Miss Helen Layne spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Benton F. Layne. School meeting will be held at the town hall, Saturday, March 25, at 2 p.m. Married, Feb. 1, by Rev. F.O. Tyler of East Barrington, Edson Tuttle of Northwood and Nellie Small of Nottingham. J. True Bartlett is at home for awhile. E.U. Bloom is recovering from an attack of pleurisy. Mrs. Lucy Thompson is suffering from a severe cold. Parkman Haley spent a day and a night with his mother, recently. Mrs. Harry Davis of Nottingham spent Thursday with Mrs. Jay Demeritt. Ethel Jordan has been sick with a cold and unable to attend school at Newmarket. February 22, 1922 Mrs. Nellie Curtis of West Medford, Mass., was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Caldwell last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McDaniel are spending a few days in Lincoln, Mass. The North Side school will close (this) Friday for the spring vacation. Mrs. Susan P. Layne is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Marry Roberts, of Dover. Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Demeritt were visitors at Lewis Demeritt s last Sunday. Nehemiah Snell is at home from Wells Beach, Me., for a short time. He will resume work as soon as the snow settles, as it is still very deep in the woods. The friends and neighbors of Mrs. Putnam are pleased to see her out again, after an illness of several weeks. Mrs. Stiles is ill with influenza. The rest of her family have been ill with it. Mr. and Mrs. E.U. Bloom are rejoicing over the birth of a daughter. Mr. and Mrs. Peach visited in Newmarket, Monday. Mrs. James Thompson s father has been quite ill the past week.

7 March 3, 1922 There will be a dance held in the town hall, Saturday evening, Mar. 4. Miss Grace Hill is spending a week with her brother, Horace G. Hill. Darius Mariotta and family are confined to the house with the flu. Lester Sawyer, who has been in Texas for some time, has returned to his home. Mr. King, of the State Forestry Dept., has been looking over the town this week in regard to the pine blister rust. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Monroe have moved from the Woodman place to Chester Ellison s. Mr. Monroe will work for Mr. Ellison. Mrs. Marion Cram, who is teaching school in Wakefield, Mass., spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Dudley. Miss Alice Dudley of Durham was also at home over Sunday. Jeremiah Smith Grange held their annual spring inspection last Tuesday evening. Instructions were ably given by Deputy Walter Forrest. The town warrant was discussed. Refreshments were served. A vote of thanks was extended to Mrs. Charles Johnson and Mrs. Ernest Menter for the sum of money which they so kindly gave the grange. Bert Michelon of Northwood was sentenced by Judge Sawyer in the Superior Court, Feb. 27, at Dover, to not les than eight nor more than 10 years in State Prison for attempting to rob, at the point of a revolver, William A. Plumer, storekeeper of South Lee, in the latter s store, Oct. 19 last. Michelon had been found guilty by a jury last Friday. March 10, 1922 Miss Bessie Thompson of Boston is visiting her mother at the Cartland farm. Mrs. Walter Plumer is still quite ill. Robert Keniston, who has been ill with the flu, is able to be about again. His brother, Elmer, is now down with it. Friends of Walter Thurston are sorry to hear of his continued illness. Mrs. Grace Dudley has been confined to the house with a severe cold the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Monroe have gone to Nottingham to reside awhile. Mr. Monroe is working at the mill for Lewis Ellison. Charles Dame has been on the sick list with a bad cold this week. Harry Hill has been ill with bronchitis.

8 March 17, 1922 Alfred Durgin and family have been ill with the flu. Also the family of Granville Thompson. Mrs. W.C. Cammett and little daughter are visiting in Swampscott, Mass. Miss S. Belle Tuttle of Swampscott, Mass., is stopping a few days at her farm. Jacob Cilley is caring for Walter Thurston, who is very ill. Mrs. Grace Dudley, who has been sick in bed th epast two weeks, is able to sit up. Mrs. Granville Thompson is gaining very slowly from an attack of the flu. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McDaniel have been confined to the house with severe colds, but are reported improving. William E. Ryan is chopping wood for Benjamin Lang. Miss Bernice McKay is visiting relatives in Haverhill, Mass., this week. Through the neglect of the chairman of the School Board in not posting the warrant on time, the school meeting is postponed to Saturday, Apr. 1st, instead of March 25th, as printed in the town reports. Charles Stackpole has returned to his home from Newton, Mass., where he has spent the winter.

9 March 17, 1922 cont. Mrs. William Reynolds and Mrs. Miner Fall of Dover were guests of Mr. and Mrs. William Caldwell last Thursday. The many friends of Mrs. Bernice (Demeritt) Russell, formerly of Lee, were very sorry to learn of her misfortune recently, in falling and breaking both wrists. She is being cared for in the Newton hospital. Dr. Daniel Buzzell, formerly of Lee was a visitor at town meeting last Tuesday. At the annual town meeting the following officers were elected, Town clerk, Fred P. Comings, selectman, for three years, Frank I. Caldwell, tax collector, Joseph W. Harvey, treasurer, Mark L. Mills, highway agent for the north side, Warren D. Sawyer, center, John H. Currier, south side, Charles A. Piper, auditors, Arthur J. Thompson, Benton E. Layne. Voted to raise $2,500 more than is required by law to defray town expenses. Also noted to raise $400 for control of the white pine blister rust. Mrs. May Francis (Hoitt) Young, widow of J. Frank Yong of Boston, passed away at the Hotel Rockingham, Portsmouth, Wednesday evening of last week. She was born in Lee, July 22, Her father was Gen. Alfred Hoitt, one of the most prominent men in Lee, during his time. With her husband, Mrs. Young was among the first to realize the advantage of York Beach as a summer resort, and they established Young s Hotel there in After Mr. Young s death she continued the management of the hotel, assisted by her son, Dr. J. Frank Young, until five years ago, when ill health forced her to give it up. Mrs. Young is survived by a son, Dr. J. Frank Young, who was with his mother at the time of her death.

10 March 24, 1922 Mrs. Edith O Brien of Charlestown, Mass., has been spending a few days with Lyford M. Wiggin. Nehemiah Snell lost his driving horse this week. Mrs. Frank Dearborn was a visitor in Dover last Tuesday. Mrs. Charles Johnson held a party at her home last Friday evening. Those who attended reported an enjoyable time. Frank Young lost a valuable horse last week. March 31, 1922 Mrs. George Chesley, who fell a short time ago, injuring a foot, is still confined to her bed. Helen Layne is at home from her school in Penacook for a two weeks vacation. Mr. and Mrs. J. Henry Lockwood of 6 West Concord street, Dover, announce the engagement of their daughter, Gertrude Marion Lockwood, to Andrew H. McDaniel. Miss Bernice McKay is spending a few days with Miss Lavena Sewell in South Berwick, Me. Lester and John Sawyer, who are attending New Hampshire College, spent a few days vacation at their home. Walter J. Thurston, a well-known resident, died last Friday, after a long illness. His age was 77 years and he is survived by a daughter, Miss Grace Thurston. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon. The case of Wright T. Ellison vs, Charles L. Churchill of Sanbornville, brought to recover a race horse which Ellison placed in Churchill s hands for training for the track in May, 1920, was decided for the plaintiff. Justice Sawyer finds that Ellison is entitled to his horse after he pays Churchill the board bill of nearly a year at his Rochester stable, which is $974, less the horse s money winnings of the season, amounting to some $270. A well-known resident of Lee certainly believes in eating eggs during Lent. One day last week he had 16 scrambled eggs for breakfast, besides other food, and on arrival at Durham informed some friends of the feat, who bet him he couldn t repeat the act, whereupon the man went to a nearby place, where he deliberately ate 26 more eggs, making 42 eggs eaten that morning.

11 April 7, 1922 Mrs. George McDaniel and two daughters are visiting her parents in Somerville, Mass. Mrs. Helen B. McRae was reelected a member of the school board at the school meeting last Saturday. F.C. York has been ill with the grip the past week. Mrs. George Fox spent last week in Boston. Betty Cate, who has been ill with pneumonia, is improving. Miss Lucille Wiggin, daughter of Frank I. Wiggin was operated on for acute appendicitis, last Saturday, at the Exeter hospital. She is doing as well as can be expected.

12 April 14, 1922 J.J. Parle of Dover, who is operating the lot of Frank D. Randall, is doing very excellent work with his tractor. They have averaged sawing between eight and nine thousand each day and expect to finish in about a week. Walter Jones and family, who have been living in Durham this winter, moved back to the farm last Monday. Charles G. Hobbs of Idaho is visiting his father, John Hobbs. Miss Edith Fernald returned to her school in Franklin, N.H., last Saturday, after spending her spring vacation with her father. Leroy Tebbetts of Rochester called on his brother, Chester Tebbetts last Tuesday. Mrs. Edna Pierce and daughter, Eleanor, of Barrington, spent a few days of last week with her father, Loren Fernald. Mrs. Charles Philbrick of Somerville, Mass., was the guest of her sister, Mrs. David Bartlett, over the week-end. James Lee and family of Dover were visitors in town last Sunday. Mrs. Rose Keyes of Haverhill, Mass., is the guest of Mrs. Sidney McKay, for a few days. Mrs. Etta H., wife of George V. Swaine, died at her home, 112 Broadway, Dover, N.H., Wednesday afternoon, following a shock which she sustained a few days before, aged 56 years. She was born in Lee, the oldest daughter of Edmund I. and Hannah M. (Jenkins) Layn, and was well known in Dover where she has resided for the last twenty-six years, respected and esteemed by all who knew her. Mrs. Swaine is survived by a husband, one daughter, Mrs. Rufert Rollins, and two grandchildren, also one brother, Samuel I. Layn of Durham, and one sister, Mrs. John Tibbetts of Dover. The services were held at her late home, Saturday afternoon at 1 o clock. Mount Washington lodge of Odd Ladies attended in a body and performed the funeral rites of the order. There was a large and beautiful floral tribute. The body was taken to Rochester for burial in the family lot in the cemetery at that place.

13 April 21, 1922 Mrs. Benton Layne was a visitor in Dover last Friday. Mrs. Annie Randall, who has been with her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Snell ever since she broke her ankle last January, returned to Boston last Tuesday. Miss Lucille Wiggin, who was operated on for appendicitis at the Exeter hospital two weeks ago, is spending a few weeks with her aunt at Milton. Rev. George E. Kinney and Mrs. Kinney of Auburn, Me., were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Durgin this week. Almon Thompson, an old and respected citizen of this town, passed away at the home of his nephew, Granville Thompson, last Friday, aged 88 years. The funeral was held in the church vestry last Sunday afternoon and burial was in Lee Hill cemetery.

14 April 28, 1922 Chester F. Tebbetts has installed a new board planer at his garage at the Five Corners. Lewis Ellison, is moving his mill this week and will commence sawing on the lot of William Caldwell on the Plains next week. Harry Smith has purchased a Buick car. Harry E. Putnam has moved to the Guy Glidden house recently. Nehemiah Snell has recently purchased a new Studebaker. Mrs. John Currier, who is in the Exeter hospital is improving. At high noon Wednesday of last week, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Chesley in Lee, their daughter, Miss Mary Abbie Chesley former teacher in Brewster Academy, Wolfeboro, became the bride of Frank W. Hatch, a well known storekeeper of Dover residing at 38 Hill street Dover. Only immediate relatives attended the wedding. The marriage ceremony was performed by Rev. G.F. Kinney of Auburn, Me., a former pastor of the Congregational church of Lee. The bride and groom were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Durgin of Lee, brother-in-law and sister of the bride. The double ring ceremony was used and Chester Durgin acted as ring bearer while his sister Evelyn, was flower girl and his brother Caverly Durgin was usher. The bride was given away by her father on his 89th birthday. Mrs. Edward Chesley of Malden, Mass, a cousin of the bride, played the wedding march, and her son, Elmer Chesley, a wellknown vocalist of Malden sang O Promise Me. The home was beautifully decorated for the occasion, and the marriage ceremony was performed under a bower of evergreen and trailing arbutus. A reception and wedding dinner followed the ceremony and the bride and groom received hearty congratulations. They were also recipients of many beautiful and costly wedding gifts testimonials of the esteem in which they are held. After a short honeymoon including a trip to Niagara Falls the couple will reside for the present with the bride s parents in Lee. They have the best wishes of their many friends.

15 May 5, 1922 Miss Bernice McKay is the guest of Mrs. Annie Randall of Boston. Mrs. Ethel Thompson was a visitor in town last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Hatch returned from their wedding trip last Sunday. Gorham Sawyer has returned to his home after a winter spent in Florida. Benton Layne was a visitor in Concord this week. Charles Stackpole spent a few days last week with his niece, Mrs. Clara Frost, in Eliot, Me. James Lee has rented his farm to Harry Monroe, who moved in last Saturday. Charles Johnson has been sawing wood for Horace Hill this week. Elmer Keniston has traded his motorcycle for a Ford car. The family of George Revere has recently moved back to the Keniston Farm. Lucia Plumer is at home, for a few days. Mrs. C.F. Thompson visited her daughter, Mrs. Robinson of Epping, Tuesday. Arthur Wiggin has hired the Clarence Wiggin farm for the year. Choppers have commenced work on the Alfred Durgin lot. Margaret Lang is spending her vacation with her parents. Mrs. Sarah Haley had business in Dover Tuesday. Charles Revere has purchased a Ford truck. Our road agent is very busy repairing the roads. Miss Mabel Leavitt is visiting Mrs. Haley. Miss Bessie Thompson, of Boston, is spending a few weeks with her mother at the Cartland Farm.

16 May 12, 1922 Margaret Lang has returned to Fitchburg, where she is attending High School. Miss Grace Thurston purchased a new Overland car. The boys of the Y.M.C.A. of Lee are to visit the camp at Rochester, N.H., for a day or two..afternoon. Miss Ethel Jordan spent Monday with Mrs. Arthur Wiggin. Mrs. Alice Demeritt entertained company Sunday. Miss Lucia Plumer returned to Portsmouth, where she teaches in the grade school Saturday afternoon. Mis Eva Magnan is visiting relatives in Manchester. Mr. and Mrs. George Durell, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thompson, Ellsworth Garrity and Ernest Smith attended the grange meeting in Newfields last Monday evening. Mrs. Belle Garrity has been in Madbury this week taking care of her daughter, Mrs. Hermon Toomey who is ill with pneumonia. Charles Dame has been in town this week attending to his spring work. Mrs. Emma Corson and Mr. Harry Morgan were visitor in Dover Monday. Fred Comings attended the Knights of Pythias meeting at Rochester on Tuesday as delegate from his lodge in Durham. Mr. King, of the State Forestry Department who is in town in regard to the white pine blister rust is staying at George Demeritt s. Mr. and Mrs. George are visiting at Walter Wellington s for a few weeks. George Young is the guest of his son in Ayer, Mass, this week. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Tibbetts, William Caldwell and Mrs. Miner Fall were visitors in Manchester last Monday. William I. Hill of Dover passed away last Saturday morning, aged 38 years. Mr. Hill was born in Lee, the son of John and Mary (Caldwell) Hill. He is survived by a widow and four children, Edward Hill of Worcester, Mrs. Grace Adams of Lubec, Me., Mrs. Frank Kirchner of Haverhill, Mass., and Chester Hill of Dover, N.H., also four grandchildren, four brothers and one sister, Truman Hill of Lowell, Mass., George Hill of Worcester, Mass., Flagg Hill of Lawrence, Mass., Horace G. Hill of Lee, N.H. and Grace M. Hill of Andover, Mass. The funeral was held at his home in Dover, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o clock. The Odd Fellows conducted the services. There was a beautiful tribute of flowers. The burial was in Pine Hill Cemetery, Dover, N.H.

17 May 19, 1922 Alfred C. Durgin has purchased a new Auburn Beauty Six, seven passenger car. Herbert Brooks and family of Dover formerly of Lee, visited friends in town last Sunday. Miss Lavinia Sewall of South Berwick was the guest of Miss Bernice McKay over the week end. Frank McDaniel and family of Dover were guest of Mr. and Mrs. George McDaniel last Tuesday. The Woman s Missionary Society will meet with Mrs. Frank Caldwell, Wednesday afternoon, May 24. Harold Wiggin who has been working for the Parle Ice CO., Dover, has been very ill, threatened with pneumonia. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McDaniel, Ernest Wardwell, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thompson and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Caldwell attended the grange meeting at Durham last Tuesday evening. Medical inspection was held in the schools in town this week. All the children were tested by Mrs. Mullen, R.N. The summer Sunday School was organized last Sunday and a good number of children were present. May 26, 1922 music. The Misses Ruth Revere and Gladys Demeritt gave a dance at the town hall Wednesday evening, refreshments were served. Harvey s orchestra furnished Caverly Durgin, Leon Dudley, Harry Putnam and Raymond Jordan, delegates from the Lee Y.M.C.A., spent three days at the first annual convention of the Y.M.C.A. of Strafford County at Rochester. Owing to illness, Ethel Jordan has been unable to attend school at Newmarket the past week. The Rev. Mr. Tyler and Mrs. Tyler were in town Monday. Mrs. James Walker visited in Epping one day last week. Miss Helen Layne is at home from her school in Penacook this week, suffering from a severe cold. The regular meeting of Jeremiah Smith Grange was held last Tuesday evening. A good number were in attendance and a most enjoyable programme was given by the lecturer. Mr. and Mrs. Edson Sewall and daughter of South Berwick, Me., were guest of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney McKay last Sunday. The tax rate this year is $2.65. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Monroe have moved into Charles Langley s house. The James Lee farm has been sold. Nehemiah Snell has two million feet of lumber to saw at Wells Beach, Maine. Mrs. Katherine Jones of Dover spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. Belle Garrity. Mrs. Alice Rice of Dover was a visitor in town last Sunday.

Sargent Jenkins will move to Newmarket very soon to reside with his daughter, Mrs. William Priest. Mr. and Mrs. William Caldwell are spending a few days with their daughter, Mrs. Miner Fall, in Dover. Children s Night was observed by Jeremiah Smith Grange last Wednesday evening. The school children presented a fine programme. Ice cream and cake were served and all enjoyed a good time. The schools in town will close June 16th, for the summer vacation.
