2 Getting Started System Requirements Minimum system requirements must met. Your smartphone will likely be compliant, but a laptop should have Windows 7, 8, 8., or 0;. GHz Core Duo CPU or equivalent GB RAM, and at least GB of free disk space, and a built-in or external camera and microphone. Although professional recording assistance is available, your smartphone, tablet, or computer possess the microphone, camera, and recording software to create a video component. Microphones Microphone placement is critical to the quality of sound. Lapel mics must be placed away from moving articles of clothing such as jacket lapels or collars and jewelry such as large necklaces, bracelets, or multiple loop earrings. Headset mics can be used with the mic placed optimally just below the corner of the mouth. Holding the microphone out and away from your mouth can reduce the popping sounds when pronouncing words beginning with the letter P. External speakers must be turned down to avoid feedback noise. Physical Environment External noises, such as ringing phones, squeaking doors/chairs, people walking in a hall, fans, lawnmowers, jewelry, or traffic; can create distractions. Poor lighting can reduce visibility. Open blinds, curtains, flickering fluorescents, and poorly placed desk lamps can reduce image clarity. Background images can create environments of reinforcement or distraction. Properly placed charts, maps, or diagrams can add to a concept. However, calendars, personal artwork, or charts from other courses can easily distract and prevent future repurposing. Attire Certain clothing choices will be more visually appealing on video. Clothing with close, high-contrast pin stripes, like white shirts with closely placed black or navy stripes, herringbone or corduroy, or busy plaids can be visually distracting. White shirts are acceptable, but must be worn under a darker jacket. Anything orange or reddish-orange can become too luminous. Maroon, blues, greens, grays and earth tones all work great for video. Structure Creating a bulleted list of key concepts is usually better than a written script. This allows you greater fluency and flexibility while presenting your concepts in a natural, conversational tone. This also assures that all topics are adequately addressed. Testing all of the hardware components and conducting a dry run of your lecture prior to the recording, especially a live presentation, will increase the probability of seamless success. Less is often more. Segmenting or chunking your topic into easily consumable three to seven minute segments can dramatically increase learner retention. Increase this with interactive polls or questions to drive even higher levels of retention and engagement. 4 Logging into MyMediasite Getting Started Go to: Mediasite/MyMediasite Log in with your NetID: If it is your first time logging into the system you will be asked to fill out some information before you can proceed.

5 Installing and Registering MDR Download Desktop Recorder Please click Download the Desktop Recorder. A new window will open. Keep in mind that you may need the assistance of ENGR IT to install software on your computer.

6 Installing and Registering MDR Download Desktop Recorder Please note the minimum system requirements. Please click blue Download Desktop Recorder for Windows button. If the system doesn t recognize your Mac, please click the Download for Mac link. Complete the instructions as listed on the page. Make sure to Register the Mediasite Desktop Recorder if you are installing this yourself. If IT installed software, you will need to register for first time use.

7 Creating a new video using MDR Open Desktop Recorder If your software is registered with your account you will see your username here. If not, please log back into MyMediasite and repeat step. Repeat First we will start with settings. Recorder Settings Click Browse Click on OS C:Drive Click on Make New Folder. Click OK. 5 Choose Back when you are finished. 5

Adjust the size of the camera capture here. Make sure the correct Camera Input and Microphone Input hardware are selected. 5 Click Next. 5 Recorder Settings Desktop will record the entire screen. Please note the software can only record up to 90x080. Window will record just one window to record by clicking on that window. SELECT: Desktop Window Region SELECTED: Desktop (90 x 080) Once you have made your selection if will show up here. X 5 Region will record a region of the screen you select. 5 Click Next.

9 Creating a new video using MDR Recording Summary The large window will give you a summary of the settings and the record button. This is the control window and will be minimized when recording. Recording If you re satisfied with your settings click the red Record button. You will get a 5 second countdown before the recording starts.

10 Creating a new video using MDR Recording Using the control window you can Discard, Pause, or Finish your recording. This window may also be minimized to get it out of the way while you record. Recording Management Once you click Finish, the Recording Management window will display. To upload your videos to the Mediasite system, click the Upload button.

11 Creating a new video using MDR Recording Management The button will change to Uploading and give you a percentage of completion. View Recording To view your recording you will need to log back into MyMediasite To search by recording name. To search by indexed files.
