1 Photo Story Tutorial To create a new Photo Story Project: 1. Start 2. Programs 3. Photo Story 4. Begin a New Story 5. Next 6. Import Pictures 7. Click on your Flash Drive s name from the window on the left and your pictures should appear in the right windowpane. 8. Click on the first picture in your folder and select CTRL+A on your keyboard to select all of the pictures in the folder. 9. Once all of your images are selected select OK 10. It will take a few seconds to import all your pictures depending on how many pictures you have and how large the file sizes are. 11. Once you have imported your pictures select the Save Project button. 12. Select the My Computer on the left side of the screen and select your flash drive from the list of drives. 13. Name your file according to the assignment s specifications. 14. Save 15. Once you have saved your project you can begin editing and improving your slideshow. Creating and Editing your Slideshow: 1. Make sure that all your pictures are in the order you want them. a. You can use the arrows to the right side of your filmstrip to move your pictures through the slide show. b. Click on the image you want to reposition and click the arrow to the right or left depending on where you want the image. c. You can also click on images and drag them to a new position. 2. Rotate images if needed a. Select the image that needs to be rotated and select the green arrow to the right or left to rotate your image. b. The rotate buttons can be found on the tool bar below the image viewer.

2 3. Remove the black borders from your pictures. a. Removing the black borders from your pictures will make the slideshow look more professional and clean. b. Select the Remove black borders button c. Photo Story will then determine whether or not it can remove your black borders. d. On many of your pictures you will need to adjust the image that is shown on the screen. e. You can click on the box and position it in the section of the image that you would like seen. You will have to do this for every image that had black bars on it. f. You can also shrink the size of the box by clicking on the corners or edges of the image and dragging the box to the desired size. g. Once you have the portion of the images selected you want to use, click Yes h. If your images have white borders around the edges you will need to remove those as well. 4. Edit Individual Pictures a. You can edit individual picture s appearances by using the edit toolbar underneath the image viewer. i. Button 1 corrects color levels ii. Button 2 corrects Red Eye problems iii. Button 3 rotates the picture counter-clockwise iv. Button 4 rotates the picture clockwise v. Button 5 Opens the Edit Pictures screen. In the Edit picture screen you can: 1. Rotate and Crop Images 2. Fix the Contrast, Color Levels and Correct Red Eye

3 3. Add effects to the pictures: Black and white, sepia tone, outline, color pencil, etc. b. Once you have edited all your pictures (if needed) select the next button. Make sure to save your slideshow often. 5. Adding Titles to your Pictures a. Select the picture you would like to add a title to and type the text in the text box. i. Keep your titles short and simple. You don t want to cover up your pictures with text. ii. Make sure to use proper capitalization and punctuation for your titles. iii. Not every picture needs a title. Some pictures speak for themselves. b. You can change the font, font size, font color, alignment and placement of the title by using the text edit toolbar above the text box. i. Button 1 opens the Font dialogue box ii. Button 2 aligns the text on the left iii. Button 3 aligns the text in the center iv. Button 4 aligns the text on the right v. Button 5 places the text at the top of the image vi. Button 6 places the text at the center of the image vii. Button 7 places the text at the bottom of the image c. Make sure that your titles do not cover up the important parts of your image. d. Be sure to use dark text on light back ground and light text on dark background. You want to make sure that your titles can be seen if you take the time to enter them. e. Once you have added titles to the images that need them, select Next 6. Customizing the motion for your images. a. Select an image that you want to customize the motion for. b. Select the Customize Motion button below the image viewer. c. Select Specify start and end position of motion

4 d. You can resize the boxes and move them to different parts of the pictures to set the Motion path e. Under the Duration heading select Number of seconds to display the picture. i. You can set each picture to be the same length or they can all be different lengths. ii. Be sure to think about the effect you want your slideshow to have. Timing plays an important role in the big picture of your slideshow. f. Preview your edits and then save your changes on the Motion and Duration tab before moving to the Transition tab. g. You can set the motion paths for all your images without closing and opening the Customize Motion screen over and over. Use the Left and Right arrows near the bottom of the screen to move to the next or previous image. Just make sure to save your changes before you move to the next image. h. Select the Transition tab at the top of he screen. i. You will want to have transitions for all of your images. It makes the change between pictures more smooth. You will probably want to pick one style of transition and stick with it for the entire slideshow. Moving back and forth between 10 types of transitions can be overwhelming. j. Check the box next to Start current picture using a transition k. Select the type of transition you want to apply to your picture. l. Select Set transition duration automatically m. Preview your changes. n. Save o. You can set the transitions for all your images without closing and opening the Customize Motion screen over and over. Use the Left and Right arrows near the bottom of the screen to move to the next or previous image. Just make sure to save your changes before you move to the next image. p. Once you have added transitions to all your images, select Close

5 7. Adding Background Music a. For most of our slideshows will create our own music. b. Select the Create Music button. c. You can customize the music to your own liking. There are a lot of settings that will help you customize your music. i. Genre ii. Style iii. Bands iv. Moods v. Tempo vi. Intensity d. Make sure to use the play button to preview the music you ve customized before adding it to your slideshow. e. Once you ve created your piece, select OK f. You can preview your slideshow and delete the music for your show on the Add Background Music screen. Make sure to preview your entire slideshow before moving on to the next screen. g. Make sure to select Save Project before moving on as well. 8. Saving your Story a. You will always select Save your story for playback on your computer b. Select Browse to name your file and tell the computer where to save it. i. Select My Computer and select your flash drive for the saving location. ii. Name your file with your last name and the assignment title. For example: farmer_allaboutme (Photo Story will put the file extension on the name for you.) c. Save d. Next e. A Building Your Story box will pop up and you will be able to see the steps Photo Story takes to build your slideshow. f. Don t hit Cancel of your movie will not be saved. g. You should View Your Story once it has been saved. h. Exit
