1 Panther TLSL Fitting Guide Fitting the Panther The Panther Spinal Brace is an orthopedic back brace that provides abdominal compression while restricting motion and supporting spinal alignment. Its design is simple and elegant; simple because of the method of setting the size and elegant because of its space age materials; like the mesh fabric that provides cool comfort, or the light yet strong polymer frequently found in aircraft. Adjusting the Panther to fit is a snap add or remove belt segments and adjust the string length. It s that easy! Throughout this guide, the term Build refers to the configuration of belts and belt segments. When reviewing the Panther Build Chart the Brace Illustration Column shows how each assembled Build will look. Note: The Panther is shipped assembled as Build B. If the Size Chart indicates an alternative Build is needed, please follow this guide to assemble that Panther Build

The right Main Belt attaches to the top of the left Main Belt. Although it is 8 long, the 5 belt segment adds 5 circumference to the Panther brace. A pair adds 10. Although it is 13 long, the 10 belt segment adds 10 circumference to the Panther brace. A pair adds TLSL Back The TLSL shell and pad fit any Panther Build. 8 Power Unit The MA=5 Power Unit includes pulleys, strings, & pull handles. Velcro Gator Clip These are found on one end of each belt segment and on each end of the Power Unit. 10 Pull Handles These allow the wearer to tighten the power unit strings. 11 Lateral Plates Adjustable position lateral plates. 12 Posterior Strut Adjustable height plate with quick-connect adjustable shoulder straps. 13 S.T.E.P Adjustable height Sternal Thoracic Extension Plate. C (5&6) 10 Belt Segments D (3&4) 5 Belt Segments (5&6) 10 Belt Segments To find the correct build above, use pants hip size for women and waist size for men. Note: Go up to the next Build if the size range is towards the upper limit of the Build range. To create Panther Build, remove/attach belt segments 1. Place brace face down 4. Set posterior strut (12) to the appropriate height. (Use penny to tighten screws) 2. Tack pull handles (10) on edges of Power units (8) Open gator clips (). Tip: Install the lateral plates after sizing the brace. 3. Insert Main Belts (1) (2) or belt segments (3) (4) (5) (6) into gator clips (). Close gator clips (), pressing firmly. 5. With the brace still flat and the pull handles (10) on edges of power unit (8), extend belt fully. 4

5 Fitting the Panther Wrap Panther around waist, and connect shoulder straps to the STEP (13). Attach lateral panels (11) so they do not interfere with the belt end placement or STEP position when donning the brace. Using Velcro rectangle on STEP s anterior pouch as a guide, center anterior pouch vertically on the belt. To adjust STEP height and angle, see Adjusting the STEP on page 6. Center brace to match back s curve Adjust String Lengths With STEP attached, lay Left Main Belt (2) end over the Right Main Belt (1) end. Pull right and left pull handles (10) tight and tack them down in front. Wind to shorten Unwind to lengthen Verify STEP assembly is centered on torso. Tighten all screws prior to completing patient fitting. String Guide Pull tight To adjust string length, create slack, then snag string with fingernail and either wind or unwind it to adjust the length. Panther Fitting Tips By overlapping Main Belt ends, brace circumference can be adjusted to fit lower size range of any build. For circumferences larger than 66, attach additional belt segments. These will likely be left over from previous Panther fittings. Right and left belt segments are normally used symmetrically, but you may choose to make one side longer than the other. Right and left string lengths are normally adjusted symmetrically, but you may choose to make them different lengths. The patient should contact the prescribing physician if experiencing pain or swelling while wearing this brace or if any part of this brace fails, the brace provider. 6 Adjusting the Step (Sternal Thoracic Extension Plate) Adjusting the STEP 1. Your STEP has an adjustable hinge in the vertical bar that allows you to quickly adjust the extensive force without bending the bars (Image 2). Using the Allen wrench included with your STEP Loosen the two hinge screws Adjust the top toward or away from the body until the extensive force is correct Hold it in place while re-tightening the two screws (See Image 1). 2. Your STEP is height adjustable in two places: The slide bar on top allows you to adjust the height by loosening the two screws with the Allen wrench (Image 1). The bottom bar placement can be adjusted on the anterior Kydex plate by removing the screws and replacing them in different holes (Image 3). Instructions for re-molding the STEP In the rare case you need to re-mold the STEP plastic plate, follow the steps below. 1. The preferred tool for heating the Kydex is a heat gun. 2. Use gloves to avoid burning your hands. 3. If the Velcro coins need to be removed, make sure the adhesive is kept clean to ensure proper re-adhesion. 4. Heat the area of the Kydex plate to be remolded and re-contour the Kydex plate to the desired shape. Use caution not to overheat the Kydex or it may collapse and irretrievably lose its original molded shape. 5. Hold the re-molded Kydex plate in its new position until cool. 6. Check the fit and repeat the procedure until the Kydex plate best matches the patient s sternum.
