2 The Mobius Technologies Story. KNEE BRACE ADVANCEMENT THAT WILL CHANGE EVERYTHING. It started with the basic thought We can do better. After it was done, we had developed a revolutionary new concept in rider knee protection. After seven extensive years of development, several generations of prototypes, and months of testing with bio-mechanical engineers, industrial engineers, and an orthopedic surgeon, we have finalized a new patent pending technology. SX/MX Champion Ryan Villopoto sustained an injury at the 2012 Seattle SX that required knee surgery. Ryan was wearing the best available knee braces at the time. By chance, Ryan was introduced to the Mobius Knee Brace inventor Darren Fleming. A rider himself, Darren has had several knee injuries. Ryan tested Darren s new braces and loved them right away. While racing with the braces throughout the 2013 season, Ryan became part of the Mobius development team, winning nine championships including the AMA FIM Supercross World Championship four times straight! CAUSE AND SOLUTION. There are many causes of knee injury, but the most common in motocross are lateral bending, lateral rotation (twisting), and hyper-extension. Combinations of these like lateral bending and rotation often occur together. At 30 degrees of flexion the ACL is most vulnerable to injury, and when the lower leg is subjected to excessive lateral bending or rotation the ligaments can be torn or injured. There are four main ligaments (ACL, PCL, LCL, and MCL) in the knee joint which connect the tibia to the femur and resist excessive bending, rotation, and hyper-extension. The ACL helps control lateral bending, lateral rotation, and hyper-extension. The PCL helps control the tibia from moving back (posterior) in relation to the femur, and internal rotation. The LCL helps control internal bending and the MCL helps control lateral bending. These ligaments are flexible, and strong in tension, but when excessive bending, rotation, or hyper-extension force is applied to the knee joint it can exceed the ligaments tensile strength and cause injury or even rupture. Our CCRS (Continuous Cable Routing System), externally reinforces all of these cruciate ligaments. The continuous cable loop is twisted 180 degrees, or a half turn, to form two interconnecting loops. The CCRS cable is routed around the knee joint as shown in the above images. When forces are applied to the knee joint, the CCRS becomes tight and resists the excessive movement that can cause injury to the ligaments. As the Continuous Cable Routing System tightens, it squeezes the brace shells gripping the tibia and femur. The tibial shell is designed to grip the tibial tuberosity controlling the lower leg, while simultaneously the femoral shell and tendon back plate grip the femur. We have routed the CCRS cable in such a way that when the leg is fully extended the continuous cable progressively tightens resisting hyper extension, bending, and rotation. When the leg is in flexion, the CCRS cable is designed to progressively tighten as well, preventing rotation and bending.
