3 MUSIC Backing tracks can be purchased and downloaded for a modest fee from various sources, as shown below. Or, you could source the original artiste s recording from amongst parents/grandparents and just have the children sing along to it, as many schools do. If you cannot source them from amongst the school community, then Amazon sell very cheap downloadable MP3 tracks for hundreds of thousands of songs. These can be purchased, downloaded on to a computer and then burnt on to a CD for performance. Below we give the song title and source of backing tracks. Where it says Traditional or Disney this means there is no backing track we know of but it may be in sheet music form in your school or on a children s school music compilation CD. 4 ACT ONE SCENE ONE The setting is SNOWFLAKE s snowflake factory. The set is a room which is used to make the magic snow dust from the formulae which SNOWFLAKE and her workforce prepare. In the centre is the Snow Dust machine and the ELVES and PIXIES are tending it. There is a large calendar which shows the month of September. The chorus are dressed as ELVES and PIXIES and are working in the factory. As the curtain opens they sing the opening song. When they have finished they begin to chat as enters). SONG ONE Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! It doesn t show signs of stopping And I ve bought some corn for popping The lights are turned way down low, Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. When we finally kiss goodnight How I ll hate going out in the storm. But if you really hold me tight, All the way home I ll be warm. The fire is slowly dying And, my dear, we re still goodbying, But as long as you love me so, Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Oh the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful, And since we've no place to go, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! (Enter SNOWFLAKE)

5 Come along now all you pixies and elves, there s no time for chit chat, we ve all got lots of work to do. ELF 1 Right-o Snowsie. Don t be cheeky. ELF 1 Sorry Missus. Dame Snowflake please, if you don t mind. Off you all go. (The chorus exit). What a day it s been. Busy, busy, busy. (Seeing the audience) Oh, hello. Let me introduce myself, my name is Dame Seraphina Snowflake and I run this factory making snow dust for the winter industry. Every year, using our secret formula, we make the fairy snow dust for the Fairies of Winterland so they can make the snow for people to go skiing and the like. Very hard work you know so the next time you build a snowman and you re sticking in a carrot for its nose just think of me. ( enters) Ah, Toby, come and meet these charming people. This is my son Toby. Hello everyone. (Waves) They re very quiet aren t they? I think we should wake them up. I think so too. Now, when I say Hello Everybody, I want you all to say Hello Dame Snowflake. Got that? Right.(Calling) Hello everybody! (She cups her ear waiting for the audience to respond) AUDIENCE Hello Dame Snowflake! That s better. Now when Toby here says Hello Everybody, I want you to say, Hello Toby. Got it?

6 (calling) Hello Everybody! AUDIENCE Hello Toby! You see they can do it, they re just here to enjoy themselves. Well, we ll soon put a stop to that! Just think mother, if it wasn t for us the children wouldn t be able to build snowmen.. Don t mention snowmen. I was once mugged by a snowman! Really? What happened? He melted all over my expensive shoes. Disgraceful! Right. Well then, if it wasn t for us people couldn t go skiing and there d be no snowdrops. Mmm. There d also be no icicles, no blizzards and no slush. I sometimes wonder if we re in the right job. Of course we are mother, everybody loves the snow. (To the audience) Don t you? AUDIENCE Yes! That makes me feel better. I was just checking on the helpers we ve got this year mother and they look a bit short. They re elves dear. They re supposed to be short. No, mother, I mean we re a bit short on numbers.

7 Oh dear, how many more do we need? Three mother, otherwise we won t be able to make enough Fairy Snow dust for the Fairies of Winterland when they come to collect it next month. Oh dear, where are we going to find three more helpers now? We ll have to tweet. Will we now. I m not very good at bird language. No mother, tweeting is an electronic communication. Really? How does this tweeting work then? I put a short message on Twitter and all my friends pick it up. I see. Something like Snowflake needs three elves for factory formulae fabrication? You can t say elves mother, it ll have to be height restricted persons. I ll settle for any kind of persons, large or small. If we don t have enough magic snow-dust ready for the Fairies of Winterland when they come, we could have a disastrously mild winter. I know mother, perhaps it would be quicker to send out a message on the Fairy Telegraph.. Fairycom, yes, that s a good idea, (looks at her watch) and it s cheaper after six and at weekends. I ll give them a call now mother. (He gets out his mobile phone). Hello, yes, I want to send a Fairy-gram please, yes, right away. Thank you. (He puts his phone away). They re sending someone right over mother.

8 How long will that take Toby? (Enter the FAIRYGRAM DELIVERY PERSON () on roller skates. Sound Effect.) My, that was quick! Are you the party that wants to send a Fairy-gram? Yes we are. What s your number madam? Snowflake one. (Checks a list) There s no snowflake one on my list. Let me see. Sorry can t, data protection. There s a Cornflake One. Could that be you? Cornflake!! Sorry, someone made a mistake. Oh yes. But they manage to get it right when they send me the bills! It s so depressing. And who do you want to send your FairyGram to? Everyone. Everyone? That ll cost you. How much?

9 Ten Fairy euros for fifteen words. Ten! Is that the cheap after six and at weekends rate rate, mate? (Very dramatic) Never mind the cost, you can t put a price on snow-dust. Right, what s the message? Take this down. Urgent. Help wanted for snowflake factory, no experience necessary, apply Dame Snowflake. Have you got that? (Writing it down)..no experience necessary, apply Dame Snowflake. Is that all? You can have another three words for the same price. There is nothing more to be said. Right, as soon as I get back to the office, everyone in Fairyland will receive that message. The cost will be added to your account, Snowflake One. Like I said. You people always get the name right when it comes to giving me a bill. All part of the service Madam, Have a good day (The exits to sound effect). We shouldn t have long to wait before we get some applicants, mother. END OF SCENE 1/
