3 Regardless of age, regardless of position, regardless of the business your most important job is to be head marketer for the brand called You. Tom Peters Article in FastCompany The Brand Called You Personal brand = Reputation. A personal brand is 1. Your reputation. 2. Your track record of demonstrated success (excellence) 3. Your key brand promise: the one thing people know they can count on you to deliver - every time. 4. What people will say about you when I ask them Hey do you know (your name)? 5. A good answer to the question So, what do you do? Does it matter? Should you care? Being good at what you do is important. Being KNOWN for that is priceless! 3
4 I once was a rookie recruiter. My client: I need a quality manager WITH automated testing experience. NO EXCEPTIONS. His name was Joe. It took me 16 hours to find him but he was PERFECT for the job! He didn t get it. Someone else WITHOUT AUTOMATED TESTING did. Because he came in BY REFERRAL. BY REPUTATION. I finally understood. And I worked hard on building a strong reputation. CEO to me: Here s your competition. They are both more qualified. And cheaper. MUCH cheaper.
