3 ABOUT CENSUS 1990 AND DATA FILES The 1990 Population Census of Indonesia was conducted to collect information about households as well as individual household members. It provides data on identification of demographic changes: fertility, mortality and migration in the year The 1990 Census sample units were selected in stages. As documented in BPS publications, the sample units were 5 percent of households in Indonesia. Each selected household was interviewed using a questionnaire (SP90-S) organized to contain four main entities: households, household members, household members aged 10 years and more, and household members in the category of ever-married women and aged 10 years and more. As received from Indonesian Bureau of Statistics, the copy of the 1990 Census data currently available at the Demography Program is organized in 27 files, each file is for a province. Each file contains records of two different levels: household and individual. At individual level, a record holds attributes from the three entities of household members. These files have been checked using SPSS for case completeness. Refer to the Summary of Data Files table for the results. For further reference to the 1990 Census, users may read the documents listed in References. Also, intended users should read the attached Letter of Agreement. ii
