11 Explanatory Notes: General Notes 1. Crude Birth Rate : Number of Births per 1000 population in a given year. This definition excludes foetal deaths 2. Crude Death Rate : Number of Deaths per 1000 population in a given year 3. Natural Increase in Population = Crude Birth Rate -Crude Death Rate 4. Total Fertility Rate (TFR) : Average number of children that would be born to a woman if she experiences the current fertility pattern throughout her reproductive span (15-49 years). 5. Expectation of live at birth :Average number of years a new born child is expected to live under current mortality conditions 6 Infant Mortality Rate(IMR):Number of infants dying under one year of age in a year per 1000 live births of the same year 7. Crude Divorce Rate refers to ratio of divorced couples to the annual average population for the reference year, the formula is: Crude divorce rate = Number of couples divorced for the reference year Annual Average population 1000% 8. Dependency rate - number of people aged 0-15 and 60 and over to the total population aged Census: A canvass of a given area, resulting in an enumeration of the entire population and often the compilation of other demographic, social and economic information pertaining to that population at a specific time.
