1 VOLUNTEERING AS A STUDENT OFFICER INFORMATION It s easy to get your Volunteering hours accredited online with our system on the union website. It s never been easier to make sure all of your hours that you ve volunteered are recorded. With a system in place to support students and student volunteers to register their own volunteering hours, it s a chance for you to ensure that you have all your hours on your HEAR. Simply registering is not enough we have over 200 societies to monitor so we can t watch and collate your hours for you you ve got to tell us, so let s see how you can do this. Before you can register as a volunteer you need to be registered on the Union website this takes a few minutes and means you won t have to fill out two forms in a row. If you paid your membership online you should be able to use that log in to register as a volunteer! REGISTER Registering is step one- it s vital as it gives you access to the platform and means that you can apply to opportunities with one click! So here is your guide on how to register yourself as a volunteer. REGISTER TO THE PLATFORM You need to have signed up to be a member of the union website before you can be a volunteer here are your step by step pictures. 1. Find the Volunteer Tab Click on it to reveal more options. 2. Click on Become a Volunteer

2 3. Log in, Sign up or continue If you are already signed in skip this step. If you are not signed into the union website you will be presented with a you need to sign in warning. At this point if you are already signed up to the union website log in. If not, fill out the form selecting no I m new here ENROLMENT 4. You ll be presented with a form like this fill it out, once you ve done that you are a registered volunteer.

3 APPLY FOR THE OPPORTUNITY 6. Hit the apply button! Now that you are a registered volunteer, all sorts of volunteering is available to you with the click of your mouse! You can find them all listed under opportunities As student officers the one you are looking for is here called Student Officers and should look like the page below. If you are logged in and hit apply it should send off your application for us to verify that you are a student officer we do this by looking at signatory lists so please make sure they are up to date! Congratulations you ve finished step 1. This is by far the longest step with the most clicking. So everything should be a lot smoother in the record stage! We just have to approve you!

4 RECORD Once you ve been approved you will get an that states you are, these are your next steps! When you log in you see a section that welcomes you onto the Union website in the top right hand side of the screen it looks like this: 2. Click on Your Account/Profile 3. Click on My Volunteering on the left hand side of the screen This is where you can do three different things: Edit your personal details Edit your volunteering profile which means any interests that might have changed or what skills you would like to build. Timesheet- this is where you submit your timesheets! View any Awards you have won. 4. Click Timesheet

5 TIMESHEETS You will be bought to a form that looks like this. 5. Click on add timesheet & fill in timesheet if you have been approved for the opportunity it will appear in the my opportunity tab. If not please su-community@le.ac.uk to be approved. Please do not leave the Notes section blank any blank timesheets without notes will be declined. You have finished step 2 which is recording your hours! Well done just one small step left to go!

6 REFLECT This step focuses on getting you to think about the skills you have gained. This section has two purposes. To give you a good understanding of the skills you have gained. To provide us with evidence that you have completed what you are saying you have and developed through it. 1. Click all the skills you think you have gained and provide a quick blurb on why!

7 2. Once you ve filled it out hit the submit for approval button you can also add evidence to this if you want to before you hit submit. I M HAVING ISSUES WITH THE WHOLE THING! 8 COMPLETE Now that you have submitted your timesheet we will approve this so long as you have filled them in correctly. Any declined timesheets will come with a reason for it being declined and all approved timesheets will be sent to Careers to be joined onto their profiles of you if they have one for you. If not a new one will be created! Once this is done this is what you would have achieved and can use as a small blurb to introduce your time as a committee member on a society: Elected Student Group Officers hold a leadership role within one of the Students Unions 200 student groups. Their responsibilities include liaising with the University and Student s Union, ensuring the engagement and development of their membership and forming innovative strategies to enhance their memberships experience. Positions include, but are not exclusive to:- President/Club Captain Secretary/ Social Secretary Treasurer Team Captain Vice President/Captain Skills that have been developed within this role include: leadership and supervising, decision making, communication, budgeting, time-management, team working and organisational skills.
