2 SAY HELLO TO BT Welcome to BT Getting to grips with things when you start a new job can be a bit daunting, especially at a company the size of BT. To make life a little easier, we ve put together this guide to help you get prepared for your first day with us. We ve shared some tips below to help you prepare for your first day. And we ll have lots more to show you once you ve started. So, for now, have a look through this guide to help you hit the ground running. Some of the content in this guide will differ dependent on the Terms and Conditions you ve been employed against and the country you work in. If you have any questions please refer to your recruitment team. There are a few other BT websites in addition to this one that you can take a look at as you join us. 3 About you When you join BT we ll need to get your emergency contact details. It will help if you can bring these with you on your first day so you can record them on our HR system. Tell us about yourself Getting started Identity card In BT we have employee internal directories where you can record and link your whereabouts to your diary and add/change any contact details. Have a head and shoulders photo ready to upload, similar to what you would use for a passport or driving licence application. You should soon receive an containing your Unique Identification Number (UIN). Store this somewhere safe as you'll need your UIN to do lots of things and access many internal BT websites once you ve joined us, like log on to your computer. If you haven t already, you ll need to a photo for your unique, BT identity card. Details about where to send it are on our new starter portal (where you complete your pre-employment checks). These cards must be worn at all times you are working on behalf of BT, either in a BT building or at a customer s premises. Page 3 of 7 Global about to join guide April 2017 Owner: Julie Hindley

4 Pay and benefits Benefits will differ depending on the country you work in and the Terms and Conditions of your employment. If you have any questions please refer to your local recruitment contact. BT Shares Company car Holidays Medical cover Employee share plans are a key benefit of working for BT. We have a tax-advantaged plan that gives BT employees the opportunity to share in BT s future success. Invitations for saveshare normally go out in May. If you re eligible, a company car takes weeks to order - or you may opt for the cash alternative. So don t expect your car as soon as you join us. You ll be able to tell us which option you want to go for when you start. The holiday year runs from 1 April to 31 March. If you already have holidays booked that cannot be moved please let your manager know as soon as you join us. You ll need to agree holiday with your line manager. If you re eligible (your contract will tell you) for Medical cover you'll get an in your first 2 weeks, asking you to enrol or take the cash alternative if this is one of your benefits. We have an internal BT site where you can view your pay, so we don t send out hard copy payslips. You ll get access to this once you ve started your job at BT. Pay and bonus For a manager your pay will be reviewed annually in June, this is based on your performance and your salary band. If you're eligible for a bonus it's reviewed at the same time based on what you've delivered and how you ve delivered it. Sales bonuses are paid quarterly. For a non-manager pay is reviewed annually in April. Pension You'll automatically be enrolled into the pension. If you don't want to be part of the pension or you want to change the amount you put in, you'll need to let us know when you join. 5 Your equipment Tools for the job Your manager will have ordered any equipment you need for you to do your job. Your mobile phone If you re eligible for a mobile phone your manager should give you this or will provide you with the details and the links to apply in your first few days. You ll need to complete regular mandatory training, especially when you join. Mandatory training protects you, our customers and BT. It s also a legal requirement. Essential training The courses cover a range of subjects including our ethics code, data privacy, bribery and competition law as well as your wellbeing and security at work. 6 Your development continued Your manager will hold an Induction meeting with you when you join us. Setting goals and managing performance Your manager will spend some time talking to you about your role, what you're responsible for, how you'll be measured. This will include a copy of your job description and any relevant team goals/targets. Your manager will have frequent one to one meetings with you, where they'll let you know how you're doing and hear how you're getting on. You'll have formal one to ones quarterly where you will be given a performance mark, based on what you've delivered and how, you'll end up with a year-end performance mark that feeds into your annual pay review. 7 Further help and support Buddy and mentors Speak to your manager about getting a buddy or a mentor. The Academy provides a mentorship service that can help match you with the ideal person. You ll find out more about it once you join BT Employee networks Our employee networks are a group of like-minded people who come together to represent the views and issues of that group. There are currently over 6,000 members across the 7 networks. You can find out more after you start. Help and support There are lots of people to help and support you once you've joined. Your boss can help you find them. But in the meantime if you need anything before you join, your recruitment contact. If you're sick and can't come to work, you'll need to let us know as soon as you can. If it means you can't work on the agreed start date, please let your new boss know.
