3 Details Of Check Is BAEP 4505 available and at the correct issue. Does an internal procedure exist and what is its reference/issue status. Is the operation for swaging incorporated into the planning. Are history sheets available and fully endorsed. To what standard does the wire rope conform to i.e., BS W11, W12. How are the cables cut to length (abraisive wheel cutter or guillotine). Do the fittings conform to the drawing requirements. Are the cables inserted the full depth of the bore of the fitting before swaging. For the case of fittings having no inspection holes is the cable marked with a band of masking tape 3.0 ± 0.05" from the end of the cable. 4 Details Of Check Result / Remarks Action Required Has the rule of no degreasing of the parts been observed. Is the workmanship of the swaged surface of a smooth texture, free from rapid dimensional changes, not embrittled due to over swaging and no cracks or other injurous defects. Are all cable assemblies 4 feet and over in length measured under tension which is equal to 2% of the minimum breaking load or 112 lbs (whichever is the lesser). Are cables under 4 feet measured without tension. Are the lengths measured as per the figures in para and are the tolerances as per those stipulated in apar After swaging are the cables inspected for the following:- i) Correct combination of cables/fittings. ii) Correct lay of the cable in the swaged fitting. iii) Smoothness of shank, parallel and in line with the head of the fitting. iv) The correct diameter of the shank using a go-no-go gauge or micrometer. 5 Details Of Check Result / Remarks Action Required v) The cable is engaged correctly in the end fitting via the inspection hole or the masking tape band. Are the maximum dimensions checked that they do not exceed the figures quoted within the table in para (is x-ray used where doubt exists). Are all the cables proof loaded to 60% of the minimum breaking load without slippage or failure, cracking or harmful distortion of the swaged fittings. Prior to application of the proof load are the cables marked with blue paint at the point where the cable tnters the swaged fitting for slippage detection. Are all fittings subjected to MFD or PFD to BAEP 2501/2502 as appropriate after proof loading. Is the cable assembly then checked for the correct length. Are all parts identified as specified within S25 or as per the cable assembly drawing. Are random detection checks carried out at the discretion of the Quality Manager. 6 What are the machines used to carry out the proof loading/ultimate loading of the cables and are they calibrated. What percentage of cables are proof/ultimately loaded. Are all operators who partake in the cable swaging operation adequately qualified to do so.
