In the interim, Sandy Kwas, VP, has stepped into the President role while Larry Durbin takes over as competition chair until John s return. Lynn Thompson stepped into the Treasurer / Secretary role. 27 A Big THANK YOU to Candy Carrigan who contributed to the Club through her work as our Competition Chair. Candy s efforts and collaborations were instrumental in the transition to the new projection system. She was tireless through the by-law revision process assisting the board to reach our final product. As you see in this issue, the presentation for EOY was stellar... We will miss Candy as she leaves to pursue other adventures. ********************************************************************************************************* PHOTOS WANTED for the club s Image Gallery. The Gallery is a showcase of work done by the members of Saguaro Camera Club. The gallery is open to all members of the club that wish to display some their work. Unlike the club s monthly competitions there is no assigned subject and images are not judged. Maybe it s just one of your favorites. Members may submit a maximum of three (3) images per submission. Members may have a maximum of three (3) images displayed at any given time. This is to ensure that all members that wish to display their images may be accommodated. Submissions are to be made to the club s webmaster and should be no larger than 640 x 480 and have a resolution of 72. NOTE: the amount and size of content is dictated by our current website package. Contact Bill Still with questions. Published: 1/27/2014 Page 27
28 To all our friends at Saguaro: There comes a time when all things come to an end. This now seems the time. When I try to think of a way to say goodbye to all of you, so many good times come to mind. All of the great trips we had, the times we had to start over --anything, the laughter when some things went wrong at the crucial moment, all those years that I chaired the PSA International, (a job that I loved) and things did go wrong once in a while. We managed to straighten them out before days end. How many years did we all take food to share and go to the Boyce Thompson Arboretum for a picnic and the beautiful cactus photos? White Sands, Death Valley, Yosemite, Monument Valley, any time anyone heard about an interesting place, we all packed up and went. So many places over those 35 plus years that we belonged to Saguaro. I can only wish that all of you have as much fun as we had and that is what I probably remember the most----the laughter and the good times and those very special friends that we made. We will think of all of you often, I know----and remember! Shirley and Floyd Published: 1/27/2014 Page 28

30 2014 ASSIGNED SUBJECT DEFINITIONS All photos in these categories will be judged as Open Assigned Category: Found Type This competition consists of handwritten signs, faded needlepoint or bold lettering. Photos taken of type found in signs, on the streets and storefronts. Shoot letters, whole words in or even found type in graffiti. Assigned Category: Backyard If you put your mind to it, you can find lots of interesting photo subjects right in your own backyard. (If you live in an apartment and do not have a formal backyard, no worries. This assignment is about discovering photo subjects around your abode they do not have to be in an actual yard.) The key here is to ignore your preconceived notions about what you see. You can look for things to shoot or you can look for patterns, lines, shapes, and the interplay between light and shadow. This assignment asks you go to an area that is familiar to you and photograph it. Look for the quintessential elements, the essence or character of it, and/or the details. Assigned Category: Symmetry means that the two sides, or top and bottom of the image mirror each other. Or the image is of something that is obviously symmetrical, even if the frame is not actually split in half. In other words, symmetry is the correspondence in size, form, and arrangement of parts on opposite sides of a plane, line, or point; it is the regularity of form. Published: 1/27/2014 Page 30
