2 Butterfly & Wrea Filet Crochet Squares Chain = ch; Stitch = st; Single Crochet = sc; Double Crochet = dc This pattern contains directions for making two different filet crochet squares, a butterfly and a wrea, which are en combined to make scarfs, clos, bedspreads, pillows and buffet sets. Use eier Mercerized Crochet and Knitting Cotton or No. 30 Mercerized Crochet Cotton for ese articles. GAUGE: Before starting squares, be sure to make a sample piece to ensure correct gauge (number of stitches and rows to e inch). Unless gauge is perfect, squares will not be e correct size. For Crochet and Knitting Cotton: 4 spaces = 1 inch; 4 rows = 1 inch. For No. 30 Cotton: 5 spaces = 1 inch; 5 rows = 1 inch.

6 Instructions for Squares ST FIRST SQUARE (BUTTERFLY) - 1 ROW: Ch 128, 1 dc in 8 st from hook, ch 2, skip 2 sts of foundation ch, 1 dc in next st (is forms a space; see chart), 39 more spaces to end of chain. Continue to follow chart to end of last row; break off.

8 BLOCKING: Stretch and pin each square to e correct size and shape on a padded surface; cover wi a damp clo; steam (do not press) wi a hot iron. Remove when dry. JOINING OF SQUARES: Alternate squares as shown on illustration. Using same cotton at was used for squares, overcast e squares togeer, being careful to have rows match exactly. PICOT EDGING: Join cotton wi a sc in first space of last row on a corner square, ch 3, 1 sc in top of sc (to form a picot), working across last row of square work 2 more sc in same space as last sc, 1 sc in next dc, 2 sc in next space, 1 sc in next dc, 2 sc in next space, 1 sc in next dc, ch 3, 1 sc in top of last sc; continue to work 2 sc in each space and 1 sc in each dc (always working a picot in top of every 9 sc) until end space in end corner square is reached, work 3 sc, a picot and 2 sc in corner space; continue picot edging along side of squares, working 3 sc over end st in each row (always working a picot in every 9 sc); work is edging all around piece, ending wi 2 sc in same space as first sc was worked; a sl st in top of first sc; break off. BUFFET SET: Using No. 30 Cotton, make 4 squares for centerpiece and join togeer (using e same design or a combination of e 2 designs).
