Abbreviations St, sts Stitch, stitches Sc Single crochet Bl Back loop R Round Hdc Half double crochet Ch Chain Dc Double crochet Sl-st Slip stitch Tr Treble crochet [] Hints: Are typed in italics and coloured purple, they are to help and guide you and hopefully make life a little easier, especially for beginners. Reference to photos is [P] with the relevant photo number * * Repeat instructions between asterisks the amount of times specified. This is normally a repeat for a complete side and will consist of multiple instructions. () Repeat instructions between parentheses the amount of times specified. This is a lower level repeat. I used Scheepjes Stonewashed XL in Green Agate and Amazonite Approx. 120 meters per square. This afghan square is designed to work in one or more colours. At the end of each round I tell you which st to join into. Each round begins in last st of previous round, unless instructed otherwise. The beginning of each round will start with a number of chains, you may change this to a standing stitch if you are using a new colour. Hint: Working in the back loop of stitches, gives definition to the rings, there is a little trick I use, which you can find here, which will help to stop you getting stretched loops when working in the back loop.

2 1. Starting with a magic ring, ch 3 [counts as dc], dc, ch 2, (2 dc, ch 2) 5 times. Join to top of ch-3. Stitch count: 12 dc, 6 ch-2 spaces. 2. Ch 1 and sc in same st, (skip next st, in next ch-2 space (hdc, 3 dc, hdc) sc in next st) 6 times, omit last sc. Hint: Squish the sts in the ch-2 space up tight to make the sc in the next st. Join to 1 st sc. Stitch count: 6 sc, 12 hdc, 18 dc.

3 3. Ch 3 and dc in same st, (ch 2, skip next 2 sts, blsc in next st [2 nd /middle dc], ch 2, skip next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st [sc]) 6 times, omit last 2 dc. Join to top of ch-3. Stitch count: 6 blsc, 12 dc, 12 ch-2 spaces. 4. Sl-st between dc's, ch 3 [counts as dc] 6 dc in same space, (skip ch-2 space, sc in next blsc, skip ch-2 space, 7 dc between next 2 dc) 5 times, skip next ch-2 space, sc in next blsc, skip next ch-2 space. Join to top of ch-3 back loop only. Stitch count: 6 sc, 6 petals of 7 dc each.

4 Hint: when working into the back loops, also work into the 3 rd loop to avoid over stretching the stitch tops. To learn more about the 3 rd loop, go to the link on the front page. 5. Ch 1 and blhdc in same st, *(2 blhdc in next st, blhdc in next st) 3 times, sc in next st [sc], blhdc in next st* Repeat from * to * 6 times, omit last blhdc. Join to 1 st blhdc. Stitch count: 6 sc, 6 petals of 10 blhdc each.

Sl-st back into previous sc, or join new colour in sc, ch 3 [counts as dc], dc in same st, (ch 4, skip next 5 sts, blsc in next st, ch 4, skip next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st [sc]) 6 times, omit last 2 dc. Join to top of ch 3. Stitch count: 6 blsc, 12 dc, 12 ch-4 spaces. 7. Ch 1 and hdc in same st, hdc in next st, (4 hdc in next ch-4 space, 2 hdc in next st [blsc], 4 hdc in next ch-4 space, hdc in next 2 sts) 6 times, omit last 2 hdc. Join to 1 st hdc. Stitch count: 72 hdc.

Ch 1 and sc in same st, sc in next 2 sts, *hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, tr in next 2 sts, in next st (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) [corner formed], tr in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 5 sts. * Repeat from * to * 4 times, omit last 3 sc. Join to 1 st sc. Stitch count: Per side: 5 sc, 4 hdc, 4 dc, 8 tr, 1 ch-2 corner space. 9. Ch 1 and hdc in same st, *hdc in next 10 sts, in ch-2 corner space (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), hdc in next 11 sts. * Repeat from * to * 4 times, omit last hdc. Join to 1 st hdc, fasten off and secure ends. Hint: next round has a new starting point. Stitch count: Per side: 21 hdc, 4 dc, 1 ch-2 corner space.

Join with a standing tr in any ch-2 corner space, (tr, ch 2, 2 tr) in same space, *ch 3, skip next 3 sts, (sc in next st, ch 3, skip next 2 sts, tr in next st, ch 3, skip next 2 sts) 3 times, sc in next st, ch 3, skip next 3 sts, in ch-2 corner space (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr). * Repeat from * to * 4 times, omit last corner group. Join to standing tr. Stitch count: Per side: 4 sc, 7 tr, 8 ch-3 spaces, 1 ch-2 corner space.

8 Hint: The corners in this round are not symmetrical. 11. Ch 1 and sc in same st, sc in next st, *in ch-2 corner space (2 sc, ch 2, sc), sc in next 2 sts, (ch 2, tr in next sc, ch 2, sc in next tr) 4 times, sc in next st. * Repeat from * to * 4 times, omit last 2 sc. Join to 1 st sc. Stitch count: Per side: 10 sc, 4 tr, 1 ch-2 corner space.

Ch 3 [counts as dc], dc in next 3 sts, *in ch-2 corner space (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), dc in next 3 sts, (2 dc in next ch-2 space, dc in next st) 8 times, dc in next 3 sts. * Repeat from * to * 4 times, omit last 4 dc. Join to top of ch-3. Stitch count: Per side: 34 dc, 1 ch-2 corner space. 13. Ch 3 [counts as dc], dc in next 5 sts, (in ch-2 corner space (dc, ch 2, dc), dc in next 34 sts) 4 times, omit last 6 dc. Join to top of ch-3. Stitch count: Per side: 36 dc, 1 ch-2 corner space.

10 14. Ch 3 [counts as dc], dc in next 6 sts, (in ch-2 corner space (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), dc in next 36 sts) 4 times, omit last 7 dc. Join to top of ch-3, fasten off, and secure ends.
