3 Working Title: Hey Presto! Presto is a young magician living with his Dad. With the help of his cat Boo, he must hide their real magical powers from their nosy neighbour, and the rest of the world. Our Target Audience for Hey Presto! Is the age group of 8-12 year olds. Research As part of our visual research, we have found similar drawing styles to what we would like to be achieved with Hey Presto. When looking at the visual style, we leaned towards Mona the Vampire to get that same moving storybook image out. However, when it came to the story aspect, we looked towards Arthur and Dennis the Menace. This is due to each story being different and non-dependant on previous episodes. 2

4 Multimedia Platforms Magic Trick Tutorial Videos One form of multimedia platform for Hey Presto! Would be tutorials on how to perform certain magic tricks. This would be done by having Presto teaching the children through either an online website or an app on ios or Android. These videos would go up once a week showing a new trick per week. This could be done through a mix of live action as well as animation. Live action hands could perform a trick whilst presto narrates on the side of the screen. Games As part of the multimedia form that is widely available today, we have devised a game that could coincide with the program. That could be a certain level being based on an incident that happened within one of the television episodes such as the flying cards, and presto would be on his bike trying to catch these cards. Another example would be using presto s wand to undo spells on escaping objects. The spell would stop the objects from being enchanted and turn them back into their normal ways. 3

5 Presto is a young magician with real magic powers; he is much more talented than his father. He is always trying to fix his father s mistakes and cleaning up the mess. Presto also does his best to keep his father s ego intact by letting him think that he is better. Presto and Boo always find themselves trying to keep their family secret hidden. Boo is Presto s cat and his best friend, they are inseparable. When it comes to hiding secrets it s always away from their nosy neighbor Wendy Willdo. She is always trying to expose Presto and his father to the rest of the world. 4

6 Boo is Presto s best friend. She is always ready to help the family out of trouble. Boo is much smarter than what she appears to be, and she will do her best to hide any trick that might have gotten out of hand. Boo is the distraction for the public. She is quick on her feet and will think her way out of any situation. Boo doesn t talk and is an expressive cat; this is her way of communicating with the audience and Presto. 5

7 Wendy Willdo is the neighbor. She is always trying to catch Presto and his father out and tries her best to reveal the actual magic powers that they both poses. She will climb fences, wait out for extended periods of time, anything really as long as she can get any evidence to prove that Presto and his dad are not what they seem. Presto and his father know this and even Boo goes out of her way to distract Wendy at the best of times. 6

8 This is Presto s father. He is a very clumsy magician with real magic powers. He is very forgetful and regularly puts the family in vulnerable positions in which their secrets are almost exposed. Presto s father is always unaware that he is leaving Boo and Presto in the middle trying to sort out his mess and fixing the problem s he s caused. Presto and his Dad are very close. Presto would do anything for him and vice versa. Presto s father knows about their nosy neighbour (Wendy) and tries his best to hide things from them, mostly unsuccessfully. 7

9 The Tricky Cards In this pilot episode, we will see an average day for Presto and his family. It will start out with Presto s father teaching him a new trick by using enchantment. However, the day quickly goes downhill when Presto s dad leaves for work. Some of the enchanted cards start to fly around the room, and some are making their way to the door. The cards will then start to follow Presto s dad to his work, where Presto will step in and try to hide this madness from the public. He quickly gets on his bike and cycles after them with boo. By the time Presto has caught up with his dad at work, he seems to have found all the cards and wants to ask him how to remove the enchantment. The father quickly tells him to keep his voice down, but after looking around he shows presto how to remove the enchantment and Presto heads home with Boo! The Hat Trick Presto s father tries to teach him the bunny out of a hat trick. It doesn t help that Presto s father has pulled a bunny that causes mayhem for Presto and Boo. The bunny can perform magic himself, he constantly disappears and reappears, and almost gets himself caught by Wendy Willdo as the magic he is doing is causing her to become suspicious. Presto and Boo must work together to outsmart the bunny and take it back home to its hat. 8

10 Pilot Episode Script The Tricky Cards: {Title Sequence} FADE IN: INT: PRESTO S KITCHEN Presto is sat at the kitchen table, Boo is on worktop by the sink, when his Presto s dad walks in. Hey Presto! I ve got to go to work, but how about I teach you a card trick first? PRESTO Ermm Sure, okay Dad BOO *Rolls eyes* Dad pulls up a chair, takes out his cards and holds them out to Presto. Boo is now on the table watching closely. Okay, pick a card, any card I won t look. PRESTO *Mumbling* Presto takes a card from the deck while his dad covers his eyes. He glances at the king of hearts, shows it to Boo and puts it back into the deck. You ready? Can I look yet? 9

11 PRESTO Yeah, I m ready, go on. Dad places the deck face down on the table and waves his wand over it. Abraaaaa card-abra! The cards slowly rise into the air, one after another and swirl and dance about the air and Boo swipes at a few of them, before carefully rearranging themselves into the deck. One card slips out from the deck and slides across the table to Presto. Go on then! Is that your card or is that your card?! Presto turns the card, to reveal the six of spades and therefore the wrong card. Boo covers her eyes, embarrassed. PRESTO *Laughing uncomfortably* Uh yeah, yeah it is! Brilliant *Laughing* Told you! I ll teach you properly when I get home, try to stay out of trouble kiddo! Dad puts the cards into the cupboard, before turning, hugging Presto, saying goodbye and leaving for work. It is only as Presto hears his dad s car starting, that he notices the cards have started flying out of the cupboard and are making their way to the door. Boo quickly leaps from the table, diving at the cards. BOO *Screeching frantically* 10

12 PRESTO Oh no! Not again! He s forgotten to disenchant them! Presto jumps up and grabs the box of cards from the cupboard and swipes at any cards that are close to him, catching a few and putting them back in the box. By now they ve opened the door and are making their way out of the house. EXT: PRESTO S FRONT GARDEN Wendy Willdo watches from her garden but Boo jumps into her garden and distracts her, while the cards fly after Dad s car and Presto hides the box behind his back. PRESTO *Under his breath* Eugh! Why is she so nosey! WENDY *Sneers* Presto quickly jumps on his bike and quickly sets off after the flying cards and his dad s car, Boo darts off after Presto. INT: S CAR *Whistling* Presto and Boo can be seen in the rear-view mirror but his dad has not noticed. EXT: PUBLIC STREET Presto and Boo are still chasing the cards, Presto panting heavily on his bike. Cards can be seen pulling peoples trousers down, knocking birds from the sky, letting dogs off their leashes and destroying market stalls, among other things. Cut to Wendy Willdo who is not far behind and is noticing the aftermath, but has not witnessed any of it first-hand. 11

13 WENDY Ohhhhh he s really gone and done it now! I knew he was weird! He can t hide it after this! *Laughing* EXT: S WORK CAR PARK Dad s car pulls into a parking space, as we see Presto in the distance and one final card and gets it back into the box. He skids to a halt just as his Dad is getting out of the car. Boo is casually walking behind, watching closely. Presto! What are you doing here?! PRESTO *Shuffling* Ummm uhhh it s just that you didn t show me how to disenchant the cards! Yeah, that s it! I wanted to practice but you didn t show me! Boo can be seen leaping onto Dad s car. Shhh! Keep your voice down son! Dad looks around suspiciously and decides that there is no one around. Okay, okay, give me the cards. Presto hands his dad the deck, which is still moving a bit but his dad doesn t question this. He inconspicuously leans into the car and waves his wand over the deck. Alaaaaaa card-zam! Dad hands Presto the cards back. 12

14 (WENDY COME S RUNNING IN OUT OF BREATH) Wendy Give me those cards!! I ll prove to the world that you have powers with these cards! (OPENS THE CARD BOX AND THE CARDS FALL OUT ONTO THE FLOOR STILL AND LIFELESS) Ymm.Wendy when your done picking up those cards could you give them back to Presto to take home, I ve got work to do! WENDY But. But I watched them fly and and followed them here! PRESTO Have a good day at work Dad. See you later! WENDY But. I really did see this! Why won t you believe me? *Laughing* See you later kiddo! BOO *SMIRKS* WENDY Darn-it! How does he always get away with this I will get you next time Presto, you mark my words!! Wendy stamps on the ground in a fit of rage. THE END FADE OUT: 13
