4 THE 3RD ANNUAL NUTCRACKER HOLIDAY TEA (90 minutes ; $50 adults, $35 ages 12 & under; Oak Room) Dance Kids of Monterey County and Carmel Valley Ranch proudly present the 3nd Annual Nutcracker Holiday Tea! This event combines performance and participation, dancing, storytelling and sword fighting! Meet the young stars of Dance Kids of Monterey County s The Nutcracker, and learn to perform an entire scene from the famous ballet. A Very Ranchy Tea will be served for all attendees, along with a complimentary glass of champagne for the adults. A portion of the proceeds goes to Dance Kids of Monterey County (dancekids.org), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing Monterey County youth with dance and theater arts opportunities. 12 DAYS OF HOLIDAY COOKIES (December 12-24; 120 minutes; Complimentary; Lodge Lobby) This year we celebrate the holiday season with a different traditional holiday cookie on each of the twelve nights leading to Christmas. These homemade delights come from old family recipes gathered from our talented and multinational Ranch Team. Search out the Cookie Story Board to find out more about the special recipes and the Team Members behind them, while you sample the delectable goods! ASK THE FARMER! WITH ORGANIC FARMER MARK MARINO (Saturdays; Drop-in hours 9:00a 11:00a; Complimentary) Join Farmer Mark Marino in our splendid Organic Garden for a 30-minute tour to learn all about the program that provides our Restaurant and Spa with delicious, homegrown ingredients. THE BEE EXPERIENCE (90 minutes; $60 Adults; $40 ages 12 & under; Golf Clubhouse) Our signature activity! Make a beeline for the Apiary. John Russo, our resident lavender farmer and beekeeper, will get you suited up for a visit to our hives home to 60,000 Italian honeybees. Included in this experience is refreshing lavender and honey lemonade, a taste of honey straight from the hive, and lavender beeswax for each person to take home. Please register at least two hours in advance. BEESWAX CANDLE MAKING WORKSHOP (60 minutes; $35 Adults, $25 Age 12 & under; Oak Room) Create a custom candle using the natural bounty of The Ranch. Select an essential oil including our own lavender oil and combine it with herbs and blossoms from the Organic Garden. Sink it all in hot wax to create a beautiful memento of your stay here. Space is limited. BUSY BEES (Daily; Available on an hourly basis, 8:00a-1:00p; $20/hour per child; ages 2-5 years; River Ranch Activities Cottage) Perfect for our youngest campers! Busy Bees is a great option for parents looking for childcare during a workout, fitness class, or other grown-up time. For children staying through the lunch hour, we are happy to order food and bill it to the guest s room or member account. A parent must be available for a diaper change, if necessary. Reservations recommended. CAROLING IN THE LODGE (60-90 minutes; Complimentary; All ages; Lodge Lobby) Join us in the Lobby for a holiday tradition. Local singing groups will serenade us with holiday classics, and everyone is invited to sing along! CHICKEN CHAT! THE HENS OF CARMEL VALLEY RANCH (Saturdays; 30 minutes; Complimentary; Children under 12 with adult) Come spend some time at The Hen House in our Organic Garden! Meet the lovely ladies 12 Rhode Island Red and Barred Plymouth Rock chickens. Don t forget your cameras, because the ladies do like to entertain us with their antics. DISCOVER GEOCACHING! (120 minutes; $35 Adults, $25 Ages 12 & under; Under 12 with adult; Lodge Lobby) Tiny treasures are hidden around The Ranch, waiting for you to find them. Whether you re new to geocaching the worldwide high-tech treasure hunt or an old pro, you ll love using our specially programmed GPS devices and clever clues to find caches placed strategically around our 500-acre property. Fun for explorers young and old! Recommended for ages 7 & up. FIRESIDE FUN WITH NATURALIST ANDY (60 minutes; Complimentary; Lodge Pool) Join Andy at the s mores pit for Nature Show & Tell, marshmallow roasting tips, and more! DANCING IN THE DINING ROOM (9:00p-12:30p; Complimentary; Lodge Lobby and Dining Room) Dinner, dancing, and celebrating the essentials of a New Year s Eve celebration! Throughout the evening we ll be hosting music in the Lodge Lobby and Restaurant live music until 9:30p, followed by groovier dance music for the night owls, going all the way through midnight! Celebrate the beginning of a brand new year with a sip of champagne and quality time with your loved ones. EVENING PROGRAMS (Nightly; 6:00p-9:00p; Price will vary; Oak Room) Every night during the holidays we will be offering special programming so you and your family can play together or separately. At every event you can order food to dine while you play, or leave your kids in our hands while you slip away for Grown-Up Time. Children ages 5 & up can stay with the Kids Camp Staff for $40 each, and for an additional charge you can order them dinner through Room Service. Enjoy one or all! of the following programs: KIDS NIGHT OUT: Kids can order dinner, watch a movie, play games, participate in themed crafts, & to cap it off we ll head out to the campfire for s mores. 5 GOIN ON A SANTA HUNT! FAMILY SCAVENGER HUNT (December 23, 2:00p-4:00p; Complimentary; Lodge Lobby) Santa Claus has come to the Ranch; you ll have to catch him if you can! Enjoy a family-friendly indoor/outdoor scavenger hunt around the property, using clues that lead you from Elf to Elf and on to Santa himself! We will also be offering family portraits with the big man himself, plus crafts, snacks, and more! Please RSVP by calling the Activities Office at , or Ext HIKE: HORSESHOE LOOP (60 minutes; Complimentary; Lodge Lobby) Join our Naturalist on a leisurely, family-friendly hike to enjoy stunning views of our 500-acre playground and greet the horses at our Hilltop Corral. Furry friends welcome on leash. Easy to moderate difficulty. HIKE: THE HUFF N PUFFER (60 90 minutes; Complimentary; Lodge Lobby) A brisk hike up the Huff & Puff Trail past our Hilltop Corral, then on to the Mucklehead Trail and the ridge above The Ranch, where spectacular views await you. Pet-friendly for seasoned trail dogs. Moderate difficulty. HIKE: THE HOLIDAY BURN-OFF - PALISADES TRAIL (120 minutes; Complimentary; Lodge Lobby) After a whole season of feasting, get out there and burn off that stuffing! Join us for one of our longer, more strenuous hikes, and enjoy stunning views of the Valley. Recommended for adults and children over the age of 12. Pet-friendly for seasoned trail dogs. Moderate to challenging. HOLIDAY FAVORITES: COOKING CLASSES WITH THE CULINARY TEAM Fun for the entire family! All ages welcome; children under 12 must be accompanied by adult. HOME-BAKED COOKIES (120 minutes; $55 adults, $35 ages 12 & under; Adventure Kitchen) Join our Pastry Team for a nostalgic holiday cookie baking class. We'll work through various recipes while discussing the virtues of sugar, spice, and all things nice. GINGERBREAD HOUSE WORKSHOP (120 minutes; $65 per gingerbread house; Families welcome; Oak Room) Nothing says Holidays like the smell of cinnamon, ginger, and cloves! Come get your hands sticky with our Culinary Team, and build an enchanting gingerbread house with your friends and family. We'll provide the candies, the frosting, and the gingerbread you provide the creativity and perseverance! Children under 12 must be supervised by someone over the age of 16. This is recommended as a family project, with reservations in advance. This class will sell out! (HOLIDAY FAVORITES, CONTINUED) WINTER HOMESTYLE CLASSICS (120 minutes; $55 adults, $35 ages 12 & under; Adventure Kitchen) This class covers a variety of topics, with Chef Tim teaching techniques that will help to bring together your winter repetoire. Whether its sausages to compliment your gravy, a recipe for Grandma's chicken noodle soup, French onion soup, or the ABC's of cooking vegetarian, you will spend time with the best in the business and have a chance to sample all the goods. Recommended for adults, and young adults age 12 and up. TRAIL RIDES AT THE RANCH Meet our newest residents of The Ranch more than 20 horses ready to take you for a ride! Contact the Activities Office at for reservations. Closed-toe shoes and long pants required. CHAPARRAL LOOP TRAIL RIDE (Daily; 60 minutes; $125 per person; Ages 8 & up) This rambling ride explores the hillside above The Ranch. We ll make our way to a sunny meadow that slopes down through oak chaparral. Meet in the Lodge 10 minutes prior for shuttle to Corral. Private rides available upon request. Reservations required. PRIVATE PONY RIDES (Available upon request; 45 minutes; $50 per child; Children ages 2-7, accompanied by adult) Enjoy a 15-minute lead-line ride and a special one-on-one session with the Wranglers. our way to a sunny meadow that slopes down through oak chaparral. Meet in the Lodge 10 minutes prior for shuttle to Corral. KIDDIE CORRAL (60 minutes, $25; Children ages 2-7, with adult; Meets at the Corral) Just right for our Junior Ranch Hands! Enjoy a leisurely family stroll on your way up to the Hilltop Corral to meet our Wranglers, participate in a roping lesson, create cowboy arts & crafts, and have your picture taken with a horse. Pony Rides available upon request for $25. Reservations recommended. JEWELRY MAKING WORKSHOP (90 minutes; $35 Adults, $25 Age 12 & under; Oak Room) Come relax and engage your inner mixed-media artist. We will provide beautiful beads and findings (and a few surprises!), and our instructors will guide you through the process of creating a beautiful necklace, bracelet, or earrings. Space is limited. JUNIOR GOLF CAMP (10:00a 12:30p; $75 per day; Offered Tuesday through Saturday) Carmel Valley Ranch will be hosting half-day junior golf camps. 6 LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL DISTILLATION CLASS (90 minutes; $35 Adults, $25 Age 12 & under; Oak Room) A truly unique opportunity to participate in our distillation and essential oil blending process. You ll use lavender fresh from this year s harvest of over 7,000 plants from our hillsides. Then take home your own bottle of essential oil. LAVENDER SOAP MAKING WORKSHOP (90 minutes; $35 Adults; $25 Age 12 & under; Oak Room) Our lavender farmer, John Russo, will demonstrate how to create balms and soaps using the lavender essential oil that we have distilled from the lavender harvested on site. Each person will make (and take home!) his or her own balm or soap. RANCH HANDS KIDS CAMP (Saturdays: 9:00a 4:00p, $105; 9:00a 1:00p or 12:00p 4:00p, $70; Sundays: 9:00a 1:00p, $70; River Ranch Activities Cottage) Featuring the perfect blend of indoor and outdoor activities for children ages 6 to 12 including hiking, tennis, golf, crafts, and more.
