1 FOR ALL AGES! What You Will Need: RUNE CALLING pieces. Print off the RUNE CALLING pieces onto CARD STOCK. Cut on the dotted lines and fold on the solid lines. (They fold in half, hiding the symbol on the slip of paper) A small bucket or container. You will put your folded RUNE CALLING pieces into it. CARDS. Print off the runic /RU- NIC CARDS onto CARD STOCK. There are 6 cards all ready to be used and a blank card option to create your own combination. Marker Items. Pennies, small stones, pieces of soft craft foam. Anything that will fit within the squares of the runic / CARDS, to mark the Runic Symbol after its been called. How to PLAY: Hand out a runic / CARD to each person playing. Each card should be different. Be sure that everyone has plenty of Marker Items to mark their cards with. (*NOTE if you laminate the cards, you can use a dry erase marker to mark the cards and then a damp cloth to wipe them clean after each game*) One person should be the designated CALL- ER (they can play the game too!). They will need to draw one RUNE CALLING piece at a time, from the bucket or other container. They should wait until everyone has had a chance to mark their CARD, before calling another. DO NOT put the slip back into the container, until the round has ended. Set the OBJECTIVE of the game. The most traditional way to play is 5 IN A ROW. 5 called markers either horizontal, vertical or diagonal. But you can also play blackout where you have to fill the entire card with called markers. There are lots of other options but you can also have them make an X on their board (X being Gebo, which means Gift). Get Gebo on your board and you WIN! Once you are sure you have won, you can call BINGO (which is traditional), or you can choose another predetermined word to announce your win, like calling out GEBO (if you are doing X ) Your board should be checked, using the called RUNE CALLING pieces, to confirm your win. A win, can be just that, a WIN! The round ends and you play again. Or, you can win a small prize, like a small piece of candy or even a toy. * There are various ways to play this game, so that it become LEARNING FUN!!! Each slip of paper has pronunciations, spellings, English letter equivalents, and the name of the Ætt/grouping that each Runic symbol belongs to. You can give the grouping and the symbol, if you are the CALLER. Or you can give the English equivalent and let them find the Runic Symbol. For the younger children, you can recite the name, and the letter equivalent and then show them the symbol to find.
