1 1st Grade Math Please complete the activity below for the day indicated. Day 1: Double Trouble Day 2: Greatest Sum Day 3: Make a Number Day 4: Math Fact Road Day 5: Toy Store

2 Double Trouble Paper 1 Die 1. Draw a 5x4 grid with 20 squares on a sheet of paper for each player. (see example below) 2. In each box, have each player randomly write an even number from 2 to 12. All players boards will look different. 3. The first player will roll the die and everyone will work to figure out the double of the number rolled. For example, if the player rolled a 2, then they will double the number to 4. If the player rolled a 3, they will double the number to six. 4. All players will then cross out one of the squares on his or her grid that contains the double of the number rolled. 5. Player two will now roll the die. Game play continues as explained above. 6. The first player to complete a row, vertically, horizontally, or diagonally wins the game. Double Trouble Game Board

3 Greatest Sum Index Cards or Paper 1. This game is for two players. Use 16 index cards to create math equations with two single digit addends using the numbers 0-9. Only write one math equation on each card. For example: 7+3 = or 9+2 = 2. Mix the cards up and place them in a deck facedown. 3. Player one and two both draw a card from the deck and solve the equation by finding the sum (the answer to the an addition problem is called the sum) 4. The player with the greatest sum wins the round and collects both cards. 5. Play continues until all cards in the deck have been used. 6. Players count their cards. The player with the most cards wins the game.

4 Make a Number Index Cards (or paper cut up into cards) 1. Write the numbers 0 9 on index cards. Only write one number per card. Create a card for each number twice. For example, your deck of cards will have 2 zeros, 2 ones, 2 twos, 2 threes, etc. 2. Mix the cards up and place them in a deck face down. 3. Have your child draw two cards. Have them use the cards to make the greatest number they can make. For example, if they draw a 4 and a 5, your child should make the number Now the second player will draw two cards and make the greatest number they can make. 5. The player with the greatest number wins that round and keeps all the cards. 6. Play continues until all the cards from the deck have been used. 7. Players count their cards. The player with the most cards wins.

5 Math Fact Road Index Cards (or paper cut up into cards) 1. Use a marker, pen, or pencil to write a different math fact on each index card. Write math facts using single digits 0-9. Example: 8 + 2, 1 +7, 6 + 3, etc. 2. Lay the cards on the floor face up to create a Math Fact Road. 3. Have your child stand at the beginning of the Math Fact Road and answer the first fact. 4. Once they say the correct answer, they move forward on the road one space and stand on the card. 5. Have your child move along the path answering the math facts on the Math Fact Road until they reach the end of the road.

6 Toy Store Coins (dimes, pennies) Paper Various toys from around the house 1. Have your child select several toys from around the house and set up a toy store. 2. Help your child label each toy with a price. Encourage your child to use a cent symbol correctly. Have your child create prices that are 20 cents or less. 3. After all the toys have been labeled with prices, have your child to visit the toy store as a shopper. Have them select a toy and bring it to you to pay for the item. 4. Give your child a total for the item and allow them to use real coins (dimes, and pennies) to count out the cost of the item. 5. Continuing playing until all items have been purchased from the store.
