Immerse yourself in the Flint Hills ecosystem and culture by touring a working 7,000-acre ranch in horse-drawn wagons.

3 Flying W Ranch Tour Sunday, February 24 Pre-Conference Sessions $60 per person 10:30 am 5 pm Min. 10 Max. 25 Lunch included: grass-fed beef meatloaf, Dutch oven potatoes, coleslaw, vegetable side, pickled items, and homemade cobbler or sheet cake. Immerse yourself in the Flint Hills ecosystem and culture by touring a working 7,000-acre ranch in horse-drawn wagons. Leading the excursion, Josh and Gwen Hoy, fifth generation ranchers, will guide the horses along country roads to view bison and longhorn cattle amid the rolling Flint Hills. Learn the history and folklore of the area and how the Hoys embraced eco-tourism and interpretation to maintain their ranch. Relax in the Flying W Ranch lodge, listening to songs and tales about the Flint Hills and cowboy culture from Dr. Jim Hoy, retired Emporia State University professor who was inducted into the Kansas Cowboy Hall of Fame in Stories from the Underground Railroad $50 per person 8 am 5 pm Min. 5 Max. 12 Lunch included Richard Pitts, executive director of the Wonder Workshop, proudly presents a journey back in time to Underground Railroad sites in Riley and Wabaunsee Counties. This tour will travel to seven sites within fifteen miles of Manhattan, Kansas with interactive activities along the way. Travelers will learn about the famous Beecher Bible and Rifle Church, Captain Mitchell, Strong Farm, Reverend Blood, and others who helped to make Kansas a free state! This adventure will place you in the shoes of enslaved Africans, Slave Owners, and Abolitionists as you learn about the true meaning of strength, courage, and endurance experienced by those early Human Rights activists whose broad shoulders we all stand on!

This unique cooperative partnership between the Kansas Department of Wildlife Parks and Tourism, the City of Wichita, U.S.

Enjoy lunch on the grounds from a local food truck (cost not included in the field trip price). After lunch, head over to the Wichita WATER Center.

This unique cooperative partnership between the Kansas Department of Wildlife Parks and Tourism, the City of Wichita, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Friends of the Great Plains Nature Center features unparalleled displays and 246 acres of habitat with meandering trails. Enjoy lunch on the grounds from a local food truck (cost not included in the field trip price). After lunch, head over to the Wichita WATER Center. This innovative groundwater treatment facility was designed to encourage public interest and education in groundwater remediation. Maxwell Game Preserve and Lindsborg Kansas $45 per person 8:30 am 6 pm Min. 15 Max. 30 Lunch not included: on your own in Lindsborg Stay nice and cozy in an enclosed tram as we view the wildlife of Maxwell Game Preserve. After a morning of bison viewing, we will head to Lindsborg, KS: Little Sweden, USA. Stroll the brick streets of downtown as you find a unique place to enjoy lunch on your own, shop the unique gift shops, and visit the quaint museums downtown. We will then head to the Sandzen Art Gallery to see the original works of local painter Birger Sandzen. His specialty is unique landscape paintings. Environmental artists Kelly Crawman, Ray Troll, and Chuck Bonner s works will also be on display. If time and weather allow, there will be a quick trip to Coronado Heights to top off the day. Animal Enrichment at Sedgwick County Zoo $25 per person 10:30 am 5 pm Min. 20 Max. 40 Lunch not included: Zoo Restaurant, or bring your own

At the end of our visit, we will complete a service project for the zoo by making animal enrichment under the direction of the zoo education staff. Leave your mark and make an animal's day.

5 Sleep in and then visit the Sedgwick County Zoo, the number one outdoor tourist attraction in Kansas. Participants will begin their day exploring over 240 acres filled with 3,000 individual animals of nearly 400 species. At the end of our visit, we will complete a service project for the zoo by making animal enrichment under the direction of the zoo education staff. Leave your mark and make an animal's day. Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve/Cottonwood Falls $35 per person 8 am 5 pm Min. 15 Max. 30 Lunch not included: Grand Central Hotel in Cottonwood Falls Discover the beautiful Tallgrass Prairie in the heart of the Flint Hills. This unique joint venture between private and public agencies offers amazing vistas and unique flora and fauna. Participants will enjoy a bus tour through the prairie and a tour of the historic ranch house on site. After enjoying nature, the group will venture to Cottonwood Falls to discover a long-standing prairie town and the grit and determination that has kept this town viable since the days of covered wagons. Strataca Underground Salt Museum, Kansas Cosmosphere, and Dillon Nature Center $64 per person 8 am 6 pm Min. 15 Max 30 Lunch included: Anchor Inn Buffet Plunge 650ft feet below the earth s surface and then rocket above it on this interpretive tour through the salt mines of Strataca and the Cosmosphere space museum in Hutchinson. Strataca, the only salt mine in the US accessible to tours, boasts several underground galleries and exhibits open for our exploration. After lunch (included in the cost), tour the Cosmosphere, which contains the largest collection of US and Russian spaceflight artifacts in the world and interprets them through internationally acclaimed education work. We ll end the day enjoying the outdoor playscape and interactive exhibits at the Dillon Nature Center.

6 Historic Wichita Walking Tour with Jim Mason $20 per person Max :30 am 5 pm Begin with lunch in Old Town (not included in price) at Eaton Hotel or on your own Leave Eaton Hotel 11:30 am Sleep in, take an early lunch and then enjoy a relaxing historical walking tour of downtown Wichita. You will hear the stories of the buildings and also get tips on how to do your own walking tour. The tour leader will be retired Great Plains Nature Center director Jim Mason, a Wichita native and local historian who began doing history strolls in The group will walk about 2 miles and will visit several sites in downtown Wichita, finishing with a behind-the-scenes tour of the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. Birding at Quivira National Wildlife Refuge $10 per person Max. 10 7:30 am 5 pm Lunch not included: on your own at a nearby restaurant Spend a day with two legendary NAI birders, Mike Rader and Ted Cable, at one of the 8 Wonders of Kansas: Quivira National Wildlife Refuge. With its unique combination of rare inland salt marsh and sand prairie, Quivira NWR serves as a major migratory stopover site and is a must-see for visiting birders. Never gone birding before? These two are great people to start your birding adventures with! All levels welcome.
